At 15 it's called harassing...when you're older you'll realize it's called love.4 points

LOL...lets see...a child with a masters degree that is responsible for other college students and has had 3 promotions in 5yrs.....a son that at 21 owned his own home out right...was made a manager at the store he worked while going to school and they payed for his semesters...is working full time and has started his own business as well...while working on his home...Gee let me rethink how I raised two intelligent... independent hard working humans......Hhhmmmm...Yep wouldn't change a thing.3 points

Lol ... I have kind of gotten used to total arrogance from some of the "know-everything" members on this forum. But this is perhaps a first in arrogance here when someone is claiming superiority over other people's parenting skills. This is starting to get kind of silly. For crying out loud, how on earth did we get from a simple harmless (and funny) joke to an accusation that people need to re-evaluate themselves as parents?3 points

I would speculate..... a lot of TEAM SPORTS where...EVERYONE'S a WINNER..there are NO losers....lol.. If a teen can't see that as a simple joke now, and know in his/her own mind that it wasn't DIRECTED at them personally...than they will have a difficult time in the world...until they learn to differentiate... I Got a lot of hate you's when my kids were growing up...and my favorite saying was ..."Good..hate me now and I'm doing my job...when you turn 18 then you can start liking me"....My kids...both of them(and very different from each other)...thanked me when they left home for the things I taught them...both the easy and hard lessons...for they realized...I did know some things..Like the difference between harassment and truthful no nonsense guidance.....30 and 27...they are still coming to me for answers...3 points

Every time I hear people ranting like lunatics about the NRA, it highlights just how terrified they are of the effectiveness of that organization.3 points

Times have change and so education has changed thus maturity and growth has changed. There was a time when "adults" got married at 16 and had children by the time they were 18. Now, kids are expected to go to college and establish their careers first. By that time, they're in their 30's and finally starting to look for a mate to start a family with. Kids now have so much more to absorb simply because as science advances, new discoveries are made and now have to be remembered. When I was in middle school, I had to learn how to make a simple computer code that did nothing more than spit out a number when I enter two numbers. Now kids are expected to email their homework assignment while they're still in elementary school. While kids today are still learning technology and a second language, we were out there experiencing life.2 points

I really like the styling of the Ram trucks and if I were in the market would give them a consideration. Only problem I have seen is the body doesn't hold up like some of its competitors. I have an 04 Silverado that is in far better shape than some newer Rams I have seen. Granted, everyone treats their vehicles differently so maybe that is the main reason. As far as the new 2.7 L diesel Eco boost goes, what kind of HP/torque are they cranking out? I would expect it to be comparable at least to the 5.4 L triton. Call me old school, but it just doesn't sound right. "Nice truck, what you got under the hood?" "That there is a 2.7 L, 164 cubic inch, Eco boost" haha2 points

New York city and Albany run the state. I'm neither Dem or Republican, I like some of what both sides offer and hate some of what both sides offer. We need a new party in this country called the common sense party!2 points

I stopped into Dicks Sporting Goods today in Orchard Park NY looking for some closeouts on Hunting gear. Could have shot a cannon off in the store and not hit anyone. Store employee was stocking shelves in the ammo aisle and I kiddingly asked, " Any 22LR ammo available?" He said I can sell you a BRICK of Remington 22LR ammo. I almost fainted. IHe would only sell 1 brick per customer but it was a good sign . I paid $25.50 OR RIGHT AROUND THERE WITHOUT TAX. I Left a Happy Camper...1 point

I am glad that my kids whom BTW not only highly intelligent in skill as well as deductive reasoning are willing to challenge authority and voice honest dislike....Now when a 3 to even 16 yr old becomes frustrated and blurts out I hate you.... because they feel their idea of what should be occurring differs from me the parent ...I welcomed that...it lets out those honest feelings in a raw form that I could then mold into a learning dialog and problem solving plan.. I knew where those feelings where directed and they where comfortable enough with me as a parent to know I understood such a release..I never needed to worry my kids were bottling up feelings in ways of disorders or drug use...They grew up with lots of laughter and much frustration as a well rounded individual should....they were never taught to be obedient little puppets...which is why they are so successful and BTW loved by many with a huge loyal friend base. Here is my wish for you Steve...that as each of your children enter the real world...the one not sheltered by their parents and full of that they on their own..... come to realize what ever parenting skill you used and life skills you instilled in them is more than enough to help them maneuver lifes obstacles ....I hope that you receive the same type of gift my children willing gave me ...by coming home for a visit and saying..... Hey Mom thanks you were right about so many things thanks for letting me learn and being there... I love you...because that will be a I love you to top even the one you and your wife exchanged at their births...It will be one you know wasn't just said as a in a... I'm leaving now love ya...but one they thought about and pondered when reviewing life and felt they wanted me to know...I wish that for you... ( dropped a word)1 point

Story about the buck is here http://huntingny.com/forums/topic/19650-had-the-hunt-of-my-life-last-night/ My first bow buck after 3 years of bowhunting. I like this mount. I think I will do this to every buck. Last year I had the skull cut longways which came out cool but I like this look more although it is a PITA to get the brain and some other parts out. Really happy with it and it took a while to finish. May change the plaque shape eventually but it works for now. Love the dark rack.1 point

If what Steve says is true and children will follow their parents lead , his children will have zero chance of developing a sense of humor . It was a sign poking fun of the fact that teenagers act like they know everything and he turns into a debate .1 point

Harvey has been a part of some the most violent films produced and sounds like a nut job. Movies like Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill and one on Ww2 just for example, I think the veiwers of his anti NRA movie should see those movies first and decide if he has a firm grasp on reality. (He doesn't)1 point

Thanks for the welcome guys. I am currently living in Westchester County and I am interested in birds like ducks or turkey but only reason was that I only joined my father for a few trips when I was young. I am eager to learn slightly bigger games but just feel not so sure. If i am not so sure I will be patient, one thing I learned from childhood trips (memories that still left) and from hunting education courses I am taking now. To Elmo, you are absolutely right that visa stuff does not affect hunting directly but as a result, I am inexperienced in firearm handling which is quite important aspect of calling myself a hunter. (Visa holder can't own any firearms here unless having a hunting license) Sent from my SM-N900V using Tapatalk1 point

While I find these deer very beautiful they are only that way due to excessive inbreeding allowing a recessive gene to show up more than would occur in nature. I actually went on a tour there in 2012 and we saw one white deer and about 100 regular ones. The history of the depot was very interesting. I would prefer to see the fence come down myself, they are not meant to be fenced. I would also like for the county to designate a section to stay forever wild.1 point

Not everyone who is pro gun (F that "pro-assault-weapon" nonsense) is right to life or anti gay, or fits any little preconceived notion that Cuomo is spouting about. Hes a delusional windbag.1 point

I like looking at them. I think they are pretty cool. BUT .... It is true that they are simply a freak of in-breeding due to some rather severe interference with the normal plan of Mother Nature. You know, really when you think about it, natural dispersal is kind of a safeguard to a healthy and natural safeguard of the species. I'm not saying that they are doomed to grow two heads or anything, but generally inbreeding is discouraged rather than encouraged. And those 24 miles of fence certainly upset that part of Ma Nature's principles. In reality, they probably should have engaged in a trap and transfer program years ago that kept the deer fenced out rather than in.1 point
-
By man-made, I think he is referencing the fencing that allows the gene to prosper. No different than a high fence deer operation in the sense you are keeping certain genes in and certain genes out. It'll only take a handful of generations to remove the bulk of those deer from the wild if the fence were down.1 point

I'd personally buy a kern mantle style static rope. I have bought lots of stuff from Sportsman's Guide, but would be very hesitant to buy rope from them. I was a Pennsylvania State Fire Academy Rescue instructor for 10+ years, ran at a department that did a lot of technical rescue, and have played around with rappelling and high ropes courses for years.1 point

Do not get me wrong, I am not saying that we should be sending emails and letters and phone calls telling him not to pull off his bribery attempt. I am simply saying that we don't have to kiss his ring for him to do it. I have heard all kinds of suggestions here that we should be thanking him and his cohorts for their graciousness. I say, the hell with that! As far as trying to convince other signers of the SAFE ACT to back Cuomo's crossbow proposal, fear not ..... all his minions will march in lock step with or without your letters. In fact the less they hear from you the more desperate they will become to cancel out your resentment for the SAFE ACT. And now a word about competing voter issues. I believe that the NYS legislators really stepped in it this time. Almost any other piece of gun control legislation would never galvanize the gun owners as much as this so-called SAFE ACT has. Here even a year later we have huge demonstrations from gun owners still taking place. Frankly, I have never seen anything like it. Hidden in this travesty, is a huge opportunity if only we have the intelligence and spine to take advantage of it. We have an opportunity to equate gun control with certain political death. We may have the one historical event and issue that will pull adequate numbers of gun owners together as a solid block of dedicated voters. We may be able to send that message, and send it so loudly that the effects will be felt for decades..... literally decades! It's all been dropped in our lap if we can develop and organize it all and pull off an historic upset. Remember the message: "A vote for gun control is a huge block of votes that you will not get". We want that to become a political fact that will be accepted for years. That message will never be sent if gun owners begin to waver on that resolve and begin splitting votes throughout a myriad of other issues. A historic opportunity, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, will have been lost. The continued attacks on gun owner's rights will be emboldened and accelerated because it will prove that politicians can slap our faces without any cost. And by the way, if we can pull off this upset, politicians will be put on notice that the voter is king in other areas of governance as well. It all goes well beyond just gun issues. It puts the fear of God back into politicians and would re-establish a level of enforced respect for the independence of voters.1 point

As far as I am concerned, the SAFE ACT is the ONLY issue this year. This is exactly what this little bone that Cuomo is throwing us is intended to do. It is an attempt to dilute the solidarity that this issue now enjoys. It is a piece offering to soften the focused opposition that the SAFE ACT has drawn. It remains to be seen whether this veiled attempt works on us or not. This is not a time for pacifism, little thank-you notes and cozying up to the known enemies of the 2nd Amendment. Yes I hear all the talk about making nice-nice to these people that a mere one year ago slapped our faces and have been so-far rubbing our noses in it in the courts, and then hoping that we can somehow re-kindle the focus of opposition to these very same people. Those people do not need our gratitude for anything. Their motives are clear and far from honorable, and they will undoubtedly continue on that course with or without our bowing and groveling thanks. They believe that they are putting something over on us (and maybe they are). If you really think you have something to be thankful for, just understand what the real price for this is. I'll guarantee you that Cuomo and his partners have already fixed that price. I am hoping that the bitter resentment that most gun owners feel against these politicians will result in enough passion to create new voters that have never voted before in their lives. I am looking for enough resentment of that midnight raid on our rights to make gun owners put aside prior commitments to be sure to get to the polls to vote those gun-grabbers out. I don't want any of that to be watered down with gratitude for anything that Cuomo does between now and that next election.1 point

This coming election is one of the easiest ones on record when it comes to voting against those who have demonstrated a disdain for the 2nd Amendment. One year ago, we had the SAFE ACT passed where each of the candidates put their position on the record. One single vote told us all we have to know in terms of who are friends of gun owners. We have a thread called "Lest We Forget" on one of the gun legislation forums here that shows that voting record http://huntingny.com/forums/topic/17272-lest-we-forget/ . This could be called the "Lazy-man's election" for gun owners, because the hearts and minds of legislators regarding the 2nd Amendment is written down in black and white for us. It's going to be real easy this time around.1 point

I am now getting a bit of insight into why Cuomo and his merry band of anti-gun politicos feel they can get away with such heavy-handed mis-treatment of gun owners. In such a short time span, he throws a bone to hunters, and they all come groveling back to him licking his feet like some whipped dogs. My gosh, nobody seems to have any true convictions anymore that can't be bought off with some meaningless gesture. All I can say is get used to the SAFE ACT and all such future intrusions on your 2nd Amendment rights because the gun-owning population is now showing just how shallow their convictions really go. I was hoping that the disgust and discontent might last until the election of these filthy creeps came up, and now I find people who are already crawling back with their hat-in-hand, ready to bow down and thank the author of one of the greatest gun-grabs in history for a little scrap thrown to them on the ground. Well, thank you all for a little dose of reality.1 point

You don't want to do that . When a rifle is fired , the barrel vibrates ( barrel harmonics ) . Resting the barrel rather than the forearm will affect the shot ..........1 point
