  3. Been at camp listening for the past 2 weekends at daylight. There's been a LOT of gobbling coming from one particular spot. It's only ~150 yards from the cabin. All the gobbling has been coming from one very small (but typical) area, so I wasn't sure if it was the same bird or multiple birds roosting VERY close together (within ~30 yards). Couldn't believe that one bird would/could gobble so much, so I was thinking/hoping it was multiple birds. Plus, the gobbling has been stopping right after flydown, so I wasn't sure which way he/they normally headed afterwards. Decided to put on the camo and get a little closer this morning, so I could see the entire hillside, to see how many gobblers there were making all the racket and see which way they headed after flydown. Right at 5:30 on the button, as if it were an alarm clock, I heard the first gobble ~90 yards in front of me, on the hillside. Believe it or not, he gobbled 127x total from the roost, before flying down at 6:10. Once he flew down, he only gobbled 1x!! (Sore throat? ) He was the only gobbler there and I had his tree pinpointed on the hillside, so I am 100% sure he was making all the racket himself!! He had 2-3 hens nearby, as I later heard them flydown. Never in my life have I heard such vocal gobbler!! BTW, just a 2 year old with a 7-8" beard. Was nice to be able to see which way they headed after fly down too. It was nice to get in there to get some "intel", rather than just standing at camp, listening, and wondering what was going on back there. Hopefully it'll help next weekend, during the youth season!

  7. Drove up to the farm Tuesday night in a full blown snowstorm to hopefully scout some birds for a few days.Next morning dawns cold and cloudy with snow covering frozen ground. Didnt expect to hear much gobbling as I walked to my usual listening spot just above a hollow where I have a ladder stand.Turns out the birds where roosted right at the edge of the field and they all busted out of the tree and lit down towards my stand!.As soon as these birds hit the ground I'm hearing big booming gobbles and yelping like crazy.I was in full camo and just sat right down to avoid being spotted. All of a sudden a hen starts yelping to my left about 75 yds in the woods..thats it.. the gobblers went nuts trying to regroup and i knew they were gonna be on top of me very quickly.I just froze as I saw white heads moving through the woods.two huge longbeards stop in a clearing at perfect gun range maybe 25 yds and stare towards the direction of the hen..She yelps again and they are both double gobbling litterally in my face!..Awesome encounter!! and they never knew I was there.I let them walk off a good distance gobbling all the way and got the hell out of there and wont be back till opening morning. I sure hope they stick around.

  10. So ive got a dilemma. Every morning when i pick my fiance up from work, on the way back we have spotted at least 6 gobblers...across the road from where i can hunt. Usually no more than 30 yards off the road. Went scouting last night and found this on my side of the road... Wondering if they eventually cross over or if this is a whole nother flock of birds thats on my side. Cant hunt the other side, have asked for years with a very polite no the answer. During my scouting i saw a set of tracks that are by far the biggest gobbler tracks ive ever seen. And just a few mornings ago we saw probably the biggest gobbler ive ever seen, beard dragging and it looked like a mop head instead of paint brush lol. Any tips or tricks you can think of? Its obvious i have birds on my side but not sure when they are coming thru. Cant use trail cams for fear of theft. One last tidbit, ive taken a bird in this spot pretty much every year after 9/930 am... Sent from my SCH-I200 using Tapatalk

  14. I have my grandfathers old A5 and its been all redone so I can't justify to take it as a primary shotgun.I usually take it out with me on a hunt every once in a while to hunt with grampa but its been a while.Thats one reason I am leaning towards the A5.

  15. Damn, ya got me on THAT! It is a vest though, not a jacket. How do you like that camo pattern? IIRC I bought that in 1982. You wouldn't believe the miles on it and the birds that have ridden out in it. Each year I have to re-sew strap or pocket for fear of a complete blow out. It was designed by the late great Dick Kirby and made by Duxbak. I tried to replace it about 10 years ago and couldn't find what I liked so I keep on sewing..........

  16. The Sbe2 is a nice gun and I would have went with that if the price tag wasn't 1700... I liked the a5 and the maxus as well. I ended up going with the maxus which is a great gun and It fit me well. Gas guns will reduce the overall felt recoil (some may disagree). I ordered mine off line and got it ffl transferred for 25 bucks. I think that's the best route to go (others may disagree) but you do not end up paying 100 plus dollars in tax and the higher price from retail stores/shops.

  17. If you want a semi, My choice would be either the Mossberg 935 or the Rem versa max. I had a 935, great turkey gun that shot unbelievable patterns, and was 100% reliable with 3 1/2" and 3" loads. Friends of mine have the Versa Max and report the same results. I currently use the Mossberg 835, that I have used since around 1993. It also has the original green woodland camo pattern. I use 3 1/2 inchers out of it…. . Bad Ass turkey rig.

  21. He's a welfare rancher who's sucking off the government teet. He should boot strap it and quit relying on government handouts. Why should our tax money support these type of free loaders? It's this sort of entitlement mentality that is ruining our country.

  24. We don't have assault weapons, (no such weapon other than in the military) what is there for us to register ?? Remember only 4.5 million people voted in the last governor's election & there are 6 million gun owners in N.Y. All of us need to vote when the time comes!!

  26. And I bet if you ask bowhunters why they shoot a compound instead of a recurve, just about everyone would give an answer that basically says because it is easier

  27. Maybe ban let off too? Lets you draw when the deer can't see you and hold until it gets clear.

  28. 20 feet in the air or in a pop up few deer will see you draw. You think the blinds and stands should be banned? After all, with your logic, they make it too easy.
