  1. How inconsiderate, missed your b'day. Now that you're 4yo, what's that in "web" years, 60yo? John, you've done a great job with this forum! Deserve a lot of kudos for being the person behind the scenes!!!! Although I may disagree with mods giving some members within heated topics such a "long leash", admittingly it's better than having too much censorship. They do a good job overall! Love this site! Hope it's here for a long time to come! Happy B'day and congrats to Burmjohn, the mods and HuntingNY. Oops, forgot the sponsors..?

  4. Actually shouldering the gun and keeping your eye from the scope is a good idea. I KNOW SOME IDIOT THAT DIDN'T THIS YEAR AND HAS A NICE PERMANANT REMINDER. LOL

  5. To follow up, I purchased a bushnell elite spotting scope 15-45. It was nice, but after testing it for a while, the short eye relief drove me nuts. I returned it. My next move was to upgrade my binos and get a tripod mount. That was probably a much better move for me. I went with vortex viper hd 10x42. The glass is great and I really don't need more for the range, especially with the mount. I will use them during hunting season, so they will serve dual purpose. That said, for $150, I also picked up a doubler and while I haven't tested it with actual range work, I think the doubler would work even at 200 plus yards for target shooting based on some testing in the field behind my house. Not as bright as without the doubler, but not really needed for target shooting as I don't shoot targets in low light. I absolutely love the viper HDs.

  6. No problem there. Fungus Face, one of my hunting buddies, hunts everything with his .300 Win mag. He is ugly as sin, dumb as a stump, and as recoil proof as a tractor tire. He's also one of my most treasured friends and is a very good shot. He's as solid a friend and hunting partner as there is and I would ( and I HAVE ) trust him with my life in a tight situation. I would not want to have him know I said such a thing, but he's too busy chasing loose women to read forums like this. I load his ammo for him and I worked up the loads for his M70 .300 Win mag , featuring 180 grain Speer Grand Slams. The damn thing kicked the snot out of me while I was working up loads, but it doesn't bother him a bit. He said he never realized it kicked that much until he watched ME shoot it from the bench. Works for him...<< GRIN>>....

  7. You might win that bet.... How about this one ? I'll shoot a charging grizzly at 20 yards with a 30-06 and 200 grain bullet.. You shoot a charging grizzly at 20 yards with your bow and whatever arrow you choose. Want to bet on which one of us is more likely to end up as bear s**t ??

  15. Hmmmm...... For me it was Alaska 1997. 11 nights in a 4 man POS tent with my buddy and all our wet crap. 12" of rain (measured at the Yakutat airport) fell in that time period. Good times...........................................................

  19. That's what I keep telling myself, lol 6-11-14 I grabbed another one yesterday. I probably had no business finding myself stuck in this thicket being dressed the way I was(shorts) but it was worth it in the end! It was nasty thick in here and I didn't see this one until I came around the big dead log and there it was 2 feet in front of me! I knew our snow would eventually melt! Antlers- 16 Sets- 3

  25. I just got into this bottle hunting stuff not too long ago so my collection is still lacking some desirables! Most of my finds are random as the dumps I find them in and usually coincidental finds while primarily looking for antlers. Like Pygmy stated, I also pass some of mine along to my 74yo mother. She loves the old colors and embossing for flower vases, and I think they take her back to the olden days, lol Here's a typical surface dump I'll dive into around here. Usually don't find anything better than a few old Ball jars if I'm lucky, but the thrill of the hunt is always worth it! I got quite a few of the old canning jars, but nothing of any color yet. The local beer bottles are what I'm always looking for as those are my favorites! This is the local closed down town dump that I'm sure still holds some old beauties. The glass is literally melting out of the earth here! My oldest bottle to date goes back to 1890's-1900 and was dug up from there. Few old metal trucks and jars I found on the edge of some farm field where all this junk got plowed over the edge. An improved Mason lid which was also a good find for me. These are just a couple of my other favorite bottles mostly because I never heard of them. Bear Springs water bottle in light blue glass. "Scuffy's" shoe polish. Every now and then I'll grab hold of some rusty metal and yank it from the earth! I only saw about a 3"x5" section of this lunker while out hunting one day before deciding I needed to see the rest of it. 2 man 5ft crosscut saw, but no handles. I passed this one along to my sister who's going to have it painted for display. ...and here's a group shot of my bottle finds thus far. I've still got some bigger items out there waiting for me to get the motivation to rescue them. A Western Flyer 2-man bicycle, and an old 10 gal crock that wedged between two trees.

  27. I think most of you all know by now I'm not a real big turkey hunter dude.... so I was super surprised to call in this ol' boy today! He gobbled on his own from the field above me, so I unloaded the fakies from my pac and started looking for a place to hide. First place I noticed was the neighbors treestand..., so up, up, and away I went! I broke out the box cutter and let a few clucks and yelps rip, but he never responded. 15 minutes later he gobbled on his own again, and this time I knew he was coming! I could hear him spitting and drumming before I could see him. He gave my jake deke a good flogging and never looked twice at my hen 3ft behind it. My lens focus started messing up on me, so I missed a lot of the action shots of the can of whoop ass he opened up on my fake, but it was a good show to watch anyhow! You all will have to take my word for it!

  28. Snuck out this morning to do some scouting/photography. Got in close to a huge winter flock but they went the other way onto posted property when they hit the ground. Eventually a few hens drifted back my way and past my blind. They brought their boyfriend, but he wasn't quite as cooperative about having his picture taken. Peek-a-Boo
