  1. I hung this treestand yesterday and went to throw a seat on it this morning. This is why you should never pee on your climbing sticks until you're ready to hunt, lol My stand is just above the buck on the left.

  3. http://www.cnsnews.com/video/national/oreilly-americas-race-problem I agree, do you? Good families bring up good kids. But I will probably be labeled a racist for this opinion. Finally someone who is not afraid to tell the truth! Thoughts?

  5. Doesnt matter for what. They are the SAME as any other gun. Perfectly safe when used RESPONSIBLY. In this sad case, it was used irresposibly and what happend shows why common sense and safety come first.

  6. Nice and cozy, looks great! I am just finishing a project up myself. It started as a simple box blind at the top of the mountain, then things just got out of hand. Now there is a wood stove, bunks, shooting windows, table, and a porch. It went from 4x4 to 10x12 with a 3 foot porch. Where is the line drawn between a deer hunting box blind and a hunting cabin? I'm fairly sure I crossed that line.

  7. Got this guy in the Upper Niagara a couple weeks ago on a little Rapala, 6lb test. Very lucky to land it!

  8. I'm surprised to see the deer hitting my brassicas, usually they wait until a few good frosts. I've got oats, winter rye, and forage peas in the freshly worked area. The farmer I lease to will leave at least 10 rows of corn the length of the field. My 25 acre woodlot was logged fairly heavily last winter. Logging plus hingecutting bedding areas is really thickening things up!

  11. Went out last night for about 11/2 hrs before dark. was around 7:45 and I had to head home to get ready to go to work and decided on one more cast after landing a 18in pig smally and wammo got a 381/2 in musky on the last cast of the day. Got him in the shallow water and measured him. was in the process of taking the hook out and getting a pic of him and he flipped out and swam off befor i could get a pic. Very pretty fish was a little upset i couldnt get a pic but oh well. need to get one of those large rubber nets or make a craddle for them. problem is i usually walk up to three miles on the river at a time so would make it hard to carry either. But number 3 for the yr is in the books. still working on trying to get one over 45 in for the yr.which is my goal. Would love to get a 50incher but i think they are far and few inbetween for a river musky. Have only seen them dead that big on the river. You figure a 40 in fish is roughly 10 yrs old so a 50 in fish would have to be close to 20ish. which is a long time to live succesfully on the suck.

  13. The benefits of having your own private hunting land versus public land is like any other private land versus public land. Private beach versus public beach. Private yard versus public park. You don't have to compete for space. You know no one else is going to be there. You can leave your stuff there.

  15. I agree with this point 200%. I see more guys carrying knives with blades that are way overkill. My favorite knife to carry has a fixed blade 3-1/2" long and only about 1/2" deep.

  17. It's offered in a 1 and a 3 day in many places. Many of the ones up here in our area are 3 day. The 1 day courses are often close to the season.

  18. After a few weeks of does, spikes and dinkers, this guy makes an appearance. We generally hunt for meat but it's always cool to see a big, symmetrical buck in the area.

  19. Genny in the retro grenade bottles, yummy. Now I only have to wait till I get out of work to have one. I can't seem to walk by the fridge when I get home without having one. One day I hope to stop at the brewery to take the tour. Utica club and saranac don't compare. And that's from someone who lives just outside the toilet of nys known as utica Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  24. He must be a slow learner then, because I've been running into these two all summer, lol How in the world did anyone ever scout before trail cams? I got rid of all my cams this year, so this is how I'm gonna get it done. I'm sure I haven't seen the last of either of them this year, and I'm sure not too worried about that stand being ruined by an end of August encounter. Here's another shot of his buddy the professor 9pt too.. you would think he'd be smarter than that by now.

  25. 135-140" Score wise, he isn't really wide, doesn't have a ton of mass, and his points are average length. He is a great deer that I would shoot if given the opportunity and proudly hang on my wall. He is a mature buck and shooting one of them is an accomplishment itself.

  26. Do not skimp on boots, get good boots! I wore cheap work boots and cheap hunting boots for years. I finally bought some quality boots, WHAT A DIFFERENCE! Quality of the hunt increased x10!

  28. Last year, while whitetail hunting the southern zone I was on a log eating lunch and heard something moving quickly behind me - I turned around and it was a black blear beelining at me. I dropped my lunch, quickly picked the rifle up off of my lap and luckily, hit it in the throat and dropped it instantly. It was 25 footsteps from me when I got it. It took me four hours to drag it to an area where I had reception to call for backup; another hour with two additional guys to get it too a truck. As said above - it gets caught on everything, small stones, brush, rock walls, etc. Dragging 295lbs of dead weight is not what I had planned for. My friends family has had this camp for 30 years and has never seen a bear. You truly dont know what you can enounter in the woods. Thankfully I had my 30-06 and luck on my side that day. My rug should be done any week now!

  29. Ability appropriate firearms, is what it is all about. No different than for an adult. I started with a BB gun as well and almost ended up like the movie (all fun and games until someone loses and eye)shooting balloons. BB cam right back and hit the end of the barrel. BB's are too hard and ricochet to easily. Started my daughter with a light single pump pellet gun. they don't seem to ricochet as easily.

  30. I think the whole point in this sad case is that the guy, and apparently the girls parents made the poor decision to let her handle too much gun. Its like the youtube videos you see of morons handing their 90 pound girlfriend a 500 S&W or a 12 gauge and watching them whack themselves in the face or have the gun fly out of their hands because of the recoil. In this case the outcome was far worse.

  31. some around here as well. That doesn't make sense though (totally driven by insurance companies). because a kid can hunt at 12 so I would think the first time they fire a gun shouldn't be at game. Like I said. to me 12 is just a number but it is totally your call, as it should be.

  32. As for the what age is appropriate? I am sure we are just days away from hearing about some bill to regulate that too. As in any parenting situation it should be up to the responsible parent to determine and decide when a child is ready for an activity. There are still details coming out on this but I bet the parents had little or no exposure to firearms prior to this. It was probably thought to be a great facebook post. They failed. The instructor failed too because he should have had the ability to determine the child's capabilities and if they weren't up to what was asked by the parents, he should have refused. IMO

  33. Do you really need a high powered, scoped sniper/military style bolt action rifle that is capable of killing at ranges out to 500+ yards? No one needs to have a rifle that can shoot hundreds of yards, to kill a deer!!! Bows and side lock muzzle loaders are more than capable of killing deer at "reasonable" ranges. Servers no purpose , according to who.

  34. They said that about handguns in NY and we got the Sullivan Act. They said the same thing about automatics and we got the NFA. Now it is what they say about semi-autos and we have the safe act. You don't think your hunting rifle is also on the list? The goal is to eliminate all guns. They simply realize they can't do it all at once so they do it a piece at a time. Problem is that when all the "other" gun owners have been defeated, there won't be enough "hunters" left to make a difference when they come for the "rest" of the guns. Why does anyone need a 6500# SUV that can travel >100mph? Put a 9-year old kid behind the wheel of one of those and let her loose on Arizona's 75mph highways. The result would likely be just as tragic. The only difference is that no one would be asking why someone needs a vehicle like that.

  35. I have shot at that range numerous times when I lived in Arizona. I used to carry a kimber custom 2 on my hip everywhere I went in az. Very relaxed gun laws which was SOOOO nice coming from NY. Last I was there they did away with the concealed permit which meant you could only carry if the gun was showing. Now you don't need a permit to conceal a firearm unless they changed the law. I remember bouncing at a night club and you had to be weary of girls with big breasts bc it was very popular to hide Rhine stone covered nickel plated 22\s in between there breasts! Anyhow I was at that range one day when I heard a noticeable ticking sound coming from the shooter to my right. When I looked over there was a 21 year old kid with a 16 year old shooting a silenced mark 7 lol he let me shoot it and it was extremely cool but had me thinking if it was a bit much for someone that young to be messing around with a silencer! Automatic weapons were verrrry common and I believe you could own one fairly easily it just had to be kept at the armory and had to be checked out when taken to the range on a day or weekend type pass. I am extremely pro gun HOWEVER putting a fully automatic uzi in a 9 year olds hand is just stupid! I am all for teaching gun safety to children but putting an uzi in a 9 year olds hands is like tossing your 16 year old a pair of Ferrari keys and saying take it for a spin son! The instructor was following protocol however lacking common sense!!!! ITS A FULLY AUTOMATIC SUB MACHINE GUN! Not your fathers old 22lr that he passed down for shooting squirrels! When Uziel Gal made this weapon it was to protect his homeland of Israel from invading forces and it did just that! I am sure he wasn't planning on having a 9 year old fire a micro version of his design! This kind of incompetence by the parents of this young lady as well as the range officers is slowly destroying the 2nd amendment. I urge parents to please be responsible when handling this kind of weaponry and if your looking for hits on youtube find another way then putting a sub machine gun in your childs hands.

  37. That was funny Elmo!!! When I was in Roscoe and the big bear was around, EVERYTHING looked like a black bear in the dark. Lets just say my stalking took on a whole different level. The 200 lbs bears don't bother me its the mom and dad at well over 400 lbs that made my arrow shake in its rest. Dam that was fun!
