Well, here we go again. Hopefully this time works out. My Dad, with the help of my negotiating skills, has reached an agreement on land here in 3N. Next up contracts, title, closing. Current owner used the land for hunting, a trapline, and some sort of beehive contraption for honey. He is moving south and needed to sell.3 points

if you let me come down there and hunt, then I could tell you if you made a good deal or not!!! lol3 points

To not give away the exact parcel, it is between 25 and 45 acres. Also, an adjoining parcel is huntable which is double the size, but landlocked to others (not us) so there isn't much pressure (if any at all). So 75 - 135 of huntable land. Further, recovery rights on the other adjoining property (40 acres). The current owner shot some nice bucks on the property. Also he had a lot of success trapping red fox (no grays), bobcat, and coyotes. 3 ladder stands are being left to us as well.3 points

I had back straps ready to go, but at the last minute my daughter and her boy friend, who quite frankly annoys the hell out of me,announced that they wanted chili . So I made a pot….. (not venison…beef) Back straps tomorrow.3 points

If the bees are staying but the equipment goes and you want to get the honey, I can give you tips on robbing the hives (can't physically help on that- bee sting allergy), and help you process honey if you get an extractor and a hot knife for it. I processed honey from 21 hives for 6 years when I was growing up. Plus built the bee boxes (hives, supers, and frames). It's not real difficult, just time consuming.2 points

Eagles are much more affected by lead than ravens. Eating the same food, an eagle will have much higher blood lead levels. It has something to do with how they metabolize it.2 points

I wouldn't want the other guys to have to go so far out of their way - that would just be inconsiderate. Seeing how I am in Northern Westchester already, I'd be happy to provide my opinions of the property. I can be there with all my guns on Saturday. What time is best for you...2 points

The telemetered golden eagle has spent the last 3 days just off the shoulder of a major NYS highway. I am certain there is a dead deer there. Here are a bunch of recent eagle and raven photos. That large group of ravens completely stripped 2 deer of meat by 8:30 AM the other day. There are probably 100 ravens. When I was there, it was like something from Hitchcock. Most of the meat they cache, which is why they can go through so much. There is one photo here that is not from New York. A collaborator in Ohio sent me the pig photo. I'm glad we aren't getting pigs. Remember, keep these birds safe, use copper bullets. They perform better than lead too.2 points

Yeah Chas...That is why I went with the .280 Rem over the .270 many years ago when I was buying my "one and only" big game rifle....Ha-Ha-Ha.... Silly ME !!.... I've added a bunch since then, but I must admit the .280 has served me well..I've used it to kill everything from woodchucks to Alaska bull moose at all ranges up to 400 yards. I reckon I made a pretty good choice.2 points

Stopped by a gun shop on the way home and my jaw hit the ground when this beautiful 760 in 35 rem was sitting in the case. The best part the barrel was already cut to 18". It has been carried a lot and has some beautiful "patina". Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk2 points

This is a must read piece by Chas. Krauthammer. The Clintons should both be in prison. She is not fit to run for POTUS Recently, Charles Krauthammer alluded that he had no doubt some of the 30k emails Hillary deleted from her private e-mail server very likely had references to the Clinton Foundation, which would be illegal and a conflict of interest. The Clinton Foundation is "organized crime" at its finest . Here is a good, concise summary of how the Clinton Foundation works as a tax free international money laundering scheme. It may eventually prove to be the largest political criminal enterprise in U.S. history. This is a textbook case on how you hide foreign money sent to you repackage it to be used for your own purposes. All tax free. Here's how it works: 1. You create a separate foreign "charity." In this case, the Clinton's set it up in Canada. 2 Foreign oligarchs and governments, then donate to this Canadian charity. In this case, over 1,000 did contributing mega millions. I'm sure they did this out of the goodness of their hearts, and expected nothing in return (Imagine Putin's buddies waking up one morning and just deciding to send untold millions to a Canadian charity). 3. The Canadian charity then bundles these separate donations and makes a massive donation to the Clinton Foundation. 4. The Clinton Foundation and the cooperating Canadian charity claim Canadian law prohibits the identification of individual donors. 5. The Clinton Foundation then "spends" some of this money for legitimate good works programs. Unfortunately, experts believe this is on the order of 10%. Much of the balance goes to enrich the Clinton's, pay salaries to untold numbers of hangers on, and fund lavish travel, etc. Again, virtually all tax free, which means you and I re subsidizing it. 6. The Clinton Foundation, with access to the world's best accountants, somehow fails to report much of this on their tax filings. They discover these "clerical errors" and begin the process of re-filing 5 years of tax returns. 7. Net result -- foreign money goes into the Clinton's pockets tax free and untraceable back to the original donor. This is the textbook definition of money laundering. Oh, by the way, the Canadian "charity" includes as a principal one Frank Giustra. Google him. He is the guy who was central to the formation of Uranium One, the Canadian company that somehow acquired massive U.S. uranium interests and then sold them to an organization controlled by Russia. This transaction required U.S. State Department approval, and guess who was Secretary of State when the approval was granted. As an aside, imagine how former Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell feels. That poor schlep is in jail because he and his wife took $165,000 in gifts and loans for doing minor favors for a guy promoting a vitamin company. Not legal but not exactly putting U.S. security at risk. Sarcasm aside, if you're still not persuaded this was a cleverly structured way to get unidentified foreign money to the Clinton's, ask yourself this: Why did these foreign interests funnel money through a Canadian charity? Why not donate directly to the Clinton Foundation? Better yet, why not donate money directly to the people, organizations and countries in need? This is the essence of money laundering and influence peddling. Now you know why Hillary's destruction of 30,000 e-mails was a risk she was willing to take. Bill and Hillary are devious, unprincipled, dishonest and criminal, and they are Slick! Warning: They could be back in the White House in January 2017. Don't let it happen. Remember, most people are not well informed. You must inform and educate them.1 point

Look, now-a-days, it is fashionable to cram anything you want into bow season. The term bowseason can be stretched and pulled and tortured to include anything anybody wants. I have no doubt that when the DEC gets ready to cram yet another thing into bow season, they will include this abortion in the blink of an eye.1 point

Years ago I was with my cousin on one of his friends farm doing a drive. The friend shot a Sika deer jumped on the drive. All legal it was an escapee from a farm and the DEC does not want them loose in population. That was the best tasting venison I have ever eaten! Darker meat than a whitetail.1 point

Next time it snows you can just stand outside with the leaf blower and redirect the flakes before they even touchdown in your yard. It may or may not work but I bet it would be amusing as heck to watch!1 point

Pretty good gadget for the anti-hunting wackos too. Imagine trying to listen for a deer to be coming with that nasty whining POS circling overhead. There are so many ways to misuse these things (hunting or otherwise), that I am not looking forward to the proliferation of these things now or in the future. I think the state should immediately make written landowner permission required before they can be flown over private property.1 point

My faith in youth has been restored. This kid has got it right. Perhaps the biggest problem to hunter recruitment is not the kids, but rather the parents attitudes toward outdoor activities. When I was a kid, I was raised around , fishing, hunting, camping, family outings, vacations built around outdoor activities. Both my parents were involved in outdoor interests. I don't see that so much anymore. There is a culture shift going on, and I don't see it retreating .... ever. But this kid put it all into words so much better than I ever could.1 point

Took one shot at a deer with my .243 this year, and one less deer running around the woods. Wasn't an ideal shot, but the .243 is more than enough to get it done. X-Calibur Lighting Systems http://facebook.com/XCaliburLightingSystems1 point

Just remember that what's on top is not necessarily what is underneath test holes are a good idea. The first thing to do is to take a peek. Finding water in the test holes as in springs and such is not necessarily good news because that is a sign of gravel (leaching dirt) that isn't good in a pond. Note the water in this test hole we actually moved the pond because of this hole. Finally it takes the shape of a pond. Spring run-off does a good job of filling the pond. It also sets up some concerns for overflow and potential disaster. Be sure to check what is below the pond in case of a washout....lol. Lookin' good ... eh? Well, maybe in the summer it doesn't look so good. Yup, it was a "leaker", test holes and all. Apparently there was some gravel layer that was a bit to close to the bottom of the pond. Too bad because there was a lot of clay for quite a depth. After watching this disaster for 3 years hoping it would self-heal with silt, it became obvious that it was going to make a great cattail garden and mosquito home. Hey the frogs liked it. Well, I didn't take any pictures of the last step which was to exercise the guy's guarantee to fill it back in for free if the pond failed. But now a bunch of years later, it's as if that fiasco never happened. The guy who did the work has done hundreds of ponds locally. In fact that is all he does for a living, and he really knows his stuff. And he did take all the precautions but there can be sneaky gravel veins that can do a great job of draining ponds. The area has successful pond right across the highway, just a mere couple hundred yards away and there is a swamp within 50 yards. But like I said above, what you see on top the ground doesn't indicate what is under the surface.1 point

I've posted this before but thought I would share my "cheap" version of a buck boiler or skull boiler. I used an old waste paper basket from a shredder that didn't work anymore. I bought a 1 inch water tight conduit hub with 1" NPT threads ( fancy talk for being able to screw a hot water heater element into the hub) Lastly I bought a 150volt, 1500 watt electric hot water heater element. I drilled a hole in the waste paper basket so I could insert the hub and then I used some epoxy to seal around it so it wouldn't leak. Then you screw in the heater element and connect a cord to the two terminals. That's it. Fill the bucket with water before plugging in or you ruin the element( $9.95 at Lowes) Here are some pics. Let me know if you have any questions. I wanted to add that this does not actually boil but will simmer and gets the job done quite well. Looking forward to trying the pressure washer after using the boiler. I hate scraping by hand.1 point
