  1. Well, here we go again. Hopefully this time works out. My Dad, with the help of my negotiating skills, has reached an agreement on land here in 3N. Next up contracts, title, closing. Current owner used the land for hunting, a trapline, and some sort of beehive contraption for honey. He is moving south and needed to sell.

  3. To not give away the exact parcel, it is between 25 and 45 acres. Also, an adjoining parcel is huntable which is double the size, but landlocked to others (not us) so there isn't much pressure (if any at all). So 75 - 135 of huntable land. Further, recovery rights on the other adjoining property (40 acres). The current owner shot some nice bucks on the property. Also he had a lot of success trapping red fox (no grays), bobcat, and coyotes. 3 ladder stands are being left to us as well.

  6. If the bees are staying but the equipment goes and you want to get the honey, I can give you tips on robbing the hives (can't physically help on that- bee sting allergy), and help you process honey if you get an extractor and a hot knife for it. I processed honey from 21 hives for 6 years when I was growing up. Plus built the bee boxes (hives, supers, and frames). It's not real difficult, just time consuming.

  7. Eagles are much more affected by lead than ravens. Eating the same food, an eagle will have much higher blood lead levels. It has something to do with how they metabolize it.

  9. The telemetered golden eagle has spent the last 3 days just off the shoulder of a major NYS highway. I am certain there is a dead deer there. Here are a bunch of recent eagle and raven photos. That large group of ravens completely stripped 2 deer of meat by 8:30 AM the other day. There are probably 100 ravens. When I was there, it was like something from Hitchcock. Most of the meat they cache, which is why they can go through so much. There is one photo here that is not from New York. A collaborator in Ohio sent me the pig photo. I'm glad we aren't getting pigs. Remember, keep these birds safe, use copper bullets. They perform better than lead too.

  11. Yeah Chas...That is why I went with the .280 Rem over the .270 many years ago when I was buying my "one and only" big game rifle....Ha-Ha-Ha.... Silly ME !!.... I've added a bunch since then, but I must admit the .280 has served me well..I've used it to kill everything from woodchucks to Alaska bull moose at all ranges up to 400 yards. I reckon I made a pretty good choice.

  15. This is a must read piece by Chas. Krauthammer. The Clintons should both be in prison. She is not fit to run for POTUS Recently, Charles Krauthammer alluded that he had no doubt some of the 30k emails Hillary deleted from her private e-mail server very likely had references to the Clinton Foundation, which would be illegal and a conflict of interest. The Clinton Foundation is "organized crime" at its finest . Here is a good, concise summary of how the Clinton Foundation works as a tax free international money laundering scheme. It may eventually prove to be the largest political criminal enterprise in U.S. history. This is a textbook case on how you hide foreign money sent to you repackage it to be used for your own purposes. All tax free. Here's how it works: 1. You create a separate foreign "charity." In this case, the Clinton's set it up in Canada. 2 Foreign oligarchs and governments, then donate to this Canadian charity. In this case, over 1,000 did contributing mega millions. I'm sure they did this out of the goodness of their hearts, and expected nothing in return (Imagine Putin's buddies waking up one morning and just deciding to send untold millions to a Canadian charity). 3. The Canadian charity then bundles these separate donations and makes a massive donation to the Clinton Foundation. 4. The Clinton Foundation and the cooperating Canadian charity claim Canadian law prohibits the identification of individual donors. 5. The Clinton Foundation then "spends" some of this money for legitimate good works programs. Unfortunately, experts believe this is on the order of 10%. Much of the balance goes to enrich the Clinton's, pay salaries to untold numbers of hangers on, and fund lavish travel, etc. Again, virtually all tax free, which means you and I re subsidizing it. 6. The Clinton Foundation, with access to the world's best accountants, somehow fails to report much of this on their tax filings. They discover these "clerical errors" and begin the process of re-filing 5 years of tax returns. 7. Net result -- foreign money goes into the Clinton's pockets tax free and untraceable back to the original donor. This is the textbook definition of money laundering. Oh, by the way, the Canadian "charity" includes as a principal one Frank Giustra. Google him. He is the guy who was central to the formation of Uranium One, the Canadian company that somehow acquired massive U.S. uranium interests and then sold them to an organization controlled by Russia. This transaction required U.S. State Department approval, and guess who was Secretary of State when the approval was granted. As an aside, imagine how former Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell feels. That poor schlep is in jail because he and his wife took $165,000 in gifts and loans for doing minor favors for a guy promoting a vitamin company. Not legal but not exactly putting U.S. security at risk. Sarcasm aside, if you're still not persuaded this was a cleverly structured way to get unidentified foreign money to the Clinton's, ask yourself this: Why did these foreign interests funnel money through a Canadian charity? Why not donate directly to the Clinton Foundation? Better yet, why not donate money directly to the people, organizations and countries in need? This is the essence of money laundering and influence peddling. Now you know why Hillary's destruction of 30,000 e-mails was a risk she was willing to take. Bill and Hillary are devious, unprincipled, dishonest and criminal, and they are Slick! Warning: They could be back in the White House in January 2017. Don't let it happen. Remember, most people are not well informed. You must inform and educate them.

  18. Look, now-a-days, it is fashionable to cram anything you want into bow season. The term bowseason can be stretched and pulled and tortured to include anything anybody wants. I have no doubt that when the DEC gets ready to cram yet another thing into bow season, they will include this abortion in the blink of an eye.

  21. Blackberries - eat as is, make preserves or blackberry mush (try it warm over vanilla ice cream). They also are a food source for deer and bear. Could also be black raspberries and some wine berries. Picking time starts around early July to August around here. Sounds like a nice parcel.

  29. Yeah I listened online through the whole thing and don't know anymore than when I started. I hope the 2nd part is a little more informative. What I did get out of it is they want to change the break-up of the WMU's into aggregates (larger WMUs). I'm not sure who asked the question about it being is counter intuitive to make the WMUs larger but I don't know their reasoning behind it, they responded "no it would make little difference and allow them to more accurately collect data." I always thought it would be more accurate knowing where exactly the harvest came from and the amount of deer taken. Maybe to allow more DMPs in areas they want more deer taken but currently don't give out that many DMPs based on hunter opinions. I just don't know what their reasoning is I mean if it isn't broke don't fix it. Maybe that is what the reason for the pilot study is. See if larger WMUs will fix their deer kill numbers so more deer are killed. Someone also asked a question about insurance companies approaching DEC about lowering deer population numbers and he said in the 17 years (not sure of the exact number now but was in the teens) he worked for DEC he had never been approached by insurance companies nor anyone else he has been in contact with. It was informative about deer but not really anything about the pilot study. What I found interesting are the numbers they came up with in 4 or 6 years 2 deer can become 64 deer. I call B.S. and they should know better not every doe drops 2 doe fawns to 1 buck fawn. I have seen doe on numerous occasions that have dropped 2 bucks. If that were the case we would see a lot more deer in my area with us and my neighbors selectively harvesting mature deer.

  38. If you're not looking to spend $300 on a lighting system then I'd suggest you go to dealxtreme.com and search "singfire" red lights/LED's... They are a Chinese company that makes pretty impressive lights for cheap. I bought two red led lights for scanning and now these are my go to lights. I even keep one mounted to my 22mag as a kill light. The beam is adjustable from flood to spot. They run on rechargeable 18650 batteries which come with the lights as well as a battery charger for around $35/ per light. I've had them for a few years now and they outperform many expensive lights. Id say i can identify an animal at 200 yds in most situations. The only downside is it takes like a month to get them in the mail. Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk

  40. Hunting is becoming killing for some people. Why not just gather up a bunch of deer, put them in a pen, and let the "hunter" pick out the one they want? One stop shop for deer. Unfortunately that seems to be where it's heading for some people. No need for learning the way of the whitetail, woodsmanship, patience, even becoming proficient with your weapon of choice. Just drive up, kill a deer, pack it up and head on home. That is why I spend time here, on this site. The vast majority are real hunters and would never think of not hunting for their venison or antlers. It's up to us to keep "hunting" as it should be. United we stand. Divided we fall.

  41. My faith in youth has been restored. This kid has got it right. Perhaps the biggest problem to hunter recruitment is not the kids, but rather the parents attitudes toward outdoor activities. When I was a kid, I was raised around , fishing, hunting, camping, family outings, vacations built around outdoor activities. Both my parents were involved in outdoor interests. I don't see that so much anymore. There is a culture shift going on, and I don't see it retreating .... ever. But this kid put it all into words so much better than I ever could.
