  1. Nice one taken by my neighbor. G2's over a foot long. Came in to check out a decoy! Think it will gross between 130-140.

  2. I stayed out of the woods this weekend because of the warmth on Saturday, and then today because I need to be away again for week of work and wouldn’t have time to deal with another deer. So over the weekend we canned and made jerky. The yield from the deer I shot last weekend was 25 Quarts of canned venison, 12 pounds (before drying) of jerky, 1 pickled heart, 2 back straps cut and frozen, and the tenderloins got eaten already. Additionally, we canned a 20 plus pound plus turkey including the meat and broth, 4 pints of chicken breast, and 12 pints of cranberry’s. Along with the garden bounty, we are well on our way to being prepared for Winter.

  4. I'm not sure just how rare a three legged deer really is. I shot a 3-legged doe a bunch of years ago, and she was fatter than an old hog. I had seen her all through the summer, and was feeling sorry for her so I decided to purposely target her. As it turned out, there was no need to waste any sympathy on that one. She spent all of her time down in the thicket in front of the house and had a regular routine of coming out every evening to feed in a small field next to the thicket. While butchering her I found the heaviest layer of fat that I have ever seen on a deer. I figured the reason for that was that she probably never went up on the hill and kept her movements down to an easy routine down in the valley bottom. Nobody ever pushed her down in that thicket. She was likely living a life of leisure. The cut on the leg was about 4" down from the elbow on her left front leg, and a patch of black skin that looked like the bottom of dog's paw. When you think about it, it is possible to blow legs clean off or held on with a little skin that eventually parts. Also it is not completely rare that fawns laying in hay lots get caught up in mowers. I imagine that as long as they have 3 good legs, they likely have a reasonable survival rate. Tough critters aren't they?

  5. I recently (6 months ago) put my property (inherited) 21.5 acres up for sale and although I and my son thoroughly enjoy it I wanted to sell it and take care of the Kids / Grand Kids while I can . It only costs $ 1000 (roughly) per year in taxes so it is pretty easy to keep . Unfortunately 90 % is wetland but produces great hunting ! I've been thinking if it doesn't sell to put it in trust for 25 years and after that turn over to the State (not back to the town) ! Been running around those woods for over 50 years !

  6. It’s about the hunt not the price of the meat .. let’s face it , factor in license , guns, clothes etc and it’s an expensive meat . Like fishing .boat , Rods and reels , fuel, etc I don’t look at it in dollars and cents

  10. The libtards, the non citizens, the democrats and closet democrats, the so called independents and libertarians (if you vote democrat you are a democrat) all migrated to the other board or just left. Wonder if they are shooting their big trolling mouths off over there or are they laying low. Many were only here to troll the politics forum on this board and did little to no posting about anything else. Pretty darn hard to argue for the shit show government mess and regulations they voted for as the country continues to go down the toilet. The best part of this politics forum was to expose those who are against us, sorry but they are not our friends, the democrat party is stronghold to every and all organized groups against every activity on this board and a whole lot more! 11. Most likely not all on that one 60 acre piece. Deer wise up real quick, after you start whittling down their numbers. That’s the key to their survival. Two deer a year seems reasonable. Assuming an average yield of 50 lbs edible per deer, that works out to $ 30 per pound, just to cover the $ 3k in property taxes. That sounds very expensive. You could probably buy Wagu fillet mignonette or Alaskan king crab cheaper than that. I always shoot for $ 1.00 per pound on my venison, including most input costs. I don’t consider property taxes on input costs though, because I need elbow room anyhow. I just consider stuff like hunting license, ammo, fertilizer, fuel, and herbicide for food plots (I usually get free seed). I also don’t consider equipment costs, because I need that for property maintenance and gardening anyhow.

  13. Lube, I think you're over committed to this property. First I think prices have come down since two years ago. More important you aren't considering all your sweat equity your giving away for free. I would think for 3K a year you could finance a smaller parcel that would suit your needs and you would own it. You might have to travel a bit to it but there's nothing like owning your own land. Good luck.
