  1. This past summer my oldest told me in conversation he thought he could graduate college a semester early and be done. 3.5 yrs rather than 4. Apparently those college level classes he took in high school were going to pay off. Well he called me yesterday and told me he was indeed done with school and was strictly focused on his career now. He earned a BS in Finance and Financial planning. My man! From the day he turned 16 he's had a job lined up and I don't think he's ever quit. He washed cars, washed dishes, made burgers at McDonald's, did retail and even humped concrete for two summers on a crew. Last January he did an internship at a financial services company in Rochester. A couple months later they offered him a formal contract to work for them. He's been working 30hrs a week at the firm this last semester in addition to the school work. Gratified and happy for him. Hard work = success.

  2. Well the 2023 season is now a wrap for me. I again found a hit list of 3 of the top bucks in my hunting area of one of the greatest places in the state in Letchworth and it was one of those three or bust… Unless an even bigger buck showed itself. Was lucky enough to keep track of the three and harvesting one of them until the rut carried them off to yonder lands. He green scored 127 plus. Once guns started banging my standards are lowered to nothing but a mature buck regardless of size. The 2nd 8pt was a fighter for sure. Cut ear, holes in his hide on his forehead and an infected puncture wound in behind his front leg. Filled a couple freezer queens to keep things in check.

  3. I had a real nice Fall hitting the timber almost every day for both Squirrels and Deer, I just enjoy being in the woods. Was semi disappointed that I saw no Bucks but I was seeing Does almost every time out and that is what I ended up taking near the end of the season. One Deer is all the wife and I can utilize so that is all I will take. Hunting is far from over for me, as long as the snow does not get too deep I will be small game hunting with one of my dogs which I actually enjoy more. Al

  8. That’s fantastic! My oldest graduates this summer. He’s really into politics. He will be going to the University of Tampa to study political science. He loathes democratic idiots. Just maybe he can make a difference in the world along with your boy!

  9. I appreciate all of the kind sentiments and I'm sure my son would as well. But the work's not done lol. Son #2 is a sophomore at Albany. We'll see how he turns out in a couple years. He's off to a good start. A quote that was introduced to me years ago. I remind my sons of it when they need it. Perhaps you know someone who could use it as well. “Tentative efforts lead to tentative outcomes. Therefore, give yourself fully to your endeavors. Decide to construct your character through excellent actions and determine to pay the price of a worthy goal. The trials you encounter will introduce you to your strengths. Remain steadfast...and one day you will build something that endures: something worthy of your potential.” ― Epictetus Thanks again.

  10. Untreated hearing loss has been linked to cognitive decline as well as falls. You can't just put a pair of hearing aids in and wear them for a few hours and expect everything to just go back to hearing normal. It took many years to lose your hearing and it will take time and dedication to hearing with them again. Don't put them in and go out to dinner in a noisy restaurant and ask even the very best hearing aids to just do all the work. You actually have to learn to hear again. Your hearing system is very complex. There are about 20,000 nerves in the inner ear on both sides that change the vibrations into electrical circuits that send the signal to the brain. We hear with our brains not our ears. I have been in the field of audiology dispensing hearing aids for over 30 years. Do your self a favor and reconsider hearing aids. If anyone has any questions I would be happy to help. Link to cognitive decline - https://publichealth.jhu.edu/2021/hearing-loss-and-the-dementia-connection

  12. I have said for many years that reparations are deserved. First we have to find out who was descended from slaves as just being black does not qualify a person. Second we have to hold the places in Africa who sold slaves accountable as it was their idea. In fact they still practice slavery in that part of the world but it doesn't bother Democrats only what happened here 200 years ago. They blame people who weren't here or were here but didn't own any slaves. Third we should hold accountable the countries who engaged in transporting the slaves as they didn't swim here and we weren't even a country for half the time, Last reparations have been decided I think it was 40 acres and a mule. So luckily with advanced DNA tests we can find out what part of Africa the victims came from and that country should provide the land. Of course that's fair because part of the reparations is to compensate victims from being stolen from their country. The countries who shipped the slaves should have to provide free transportation. We should provide the mule. I would be ok with substituting a small tractor but the mule is probably better as fuel costs may be a burden. Last any victim who doesn't want this deal should sign a NDA to shut up for the rest of their lives. Most of us came here fleeing poverty and starvation from Europe and found far better lives than our families faced in their home countries. Most of us faced discrimination when we arrived here whether Irish, Italian or whatever. Now I know slavery was a far worse fate for the poor victims who lived it but not only is it over but a half a million American white people died to end it. Does that count for anything? Are there any reparations to those families?

  14. Great story. I have a friend who works at UBS in Rochester. I could always forward his resume to him if needed. Your boy sounds like a great young man with a strong work ethic! You should be very proud!

  16. I’m thinking it is around 1924. I looked it up once by S/N. It was a special model made for youth trap shooting. It’s in decent shape, with the only noticeable defect being the opening break lever has been repaired by braising. It’s a very good shooter. I can’t recall ever missing a squirrel with it, and I also took a few rabbits with it. I definitely missed some clay birds, but not as many as I broke. I don’t think it will take 3” shells. I did tote it on a spring Turkey hunt once because it handles great in a blind, being so short. I wouldn’t shoot further than 20 yards at one of those, with 2-1/2” lead #4’s. If I could find some of those new TSS #9’s in 2-1/2”, I might try that again. The area around my in-laws place, up in the northern zone, seems to be rather infested with turkeys this year.

  19. An xtp bullet, driven by 100 gr of T7, dont do too much meat damage in that area either: Nor does a relatively slow moving shotgun slug, wether it be a full diameter foster type or a sabot. The little screamin center fire rifle bullets are far better thru the lungs of a deer though, as far as the meat damage goes.
