Try not to disturb the doe, if it disturbs the area they will pick up on it. You might be better off using some ladder stands by good cover. Otherwise good luck, glad to see you got this property, hope you get the big one!

I use bleat cans by Primos and use my mouth. Have had good luck with it. Works in combination with buck grunt. It works great as long as you don't call to often or get busted.

Why I target bigger bucks. 11) I have more than enough doe for meat if I need it for friends or family. 10) I don't hunt for meat, I eat out every day. Most meat is donated with the promise that I am invited for a venison dinner. 9) Someone needs to protect our trees I figures I would volunteer and help by removing the biggest tree killer, the mighty buck! If I shot the first buck I saw I would have a short season, I really enjoy the woods and have no issue eating tag soup. 7) Because they have bigger handles to drag with! 6) I learn more by passing and observing deer than I ever will shooting the first one. For me this is priceless! 5) Young bucks and doe are dumb and do not know better until they get some experience. 4) To become rich and famous! Or possibly respected as a knowledgeable whitetail buck hunter. 3) TV shows have corrupted me! So I believe their is always a brute for me to hunt. 2) When you have many to choose from it is easy to pass, not true in some areas I hunt. Those area's a basket 8 is considered a true trophy. 1) It's a real challenge to outsmart an older deer. Nothing thrills me more than calling in a deer except stalking, ambushing or tracking, lol. OK I admit it I like watching any deer but those majestic bucks do something extra to me! Last but not least: I like big antlers! Simply put big bucks are in a class by themselves. They do not look like young bucks and most doe all look the same to me. .

1) You are hunting once you exit the camp grounds, I love that! Eliminate the 1 hour drive to get into the woods. 2) Smell of a wood burning fire, really REALLY good food! Great food! Did I mention the food is awesome! 3) No driving needed to go and hunt. Just grab a gun and go. 4) Hotels are not bad but you have to look around to find the right one. Hotels mean I have to wait for the other hunters to eat breakfast before we head out to the woods, not so at camp. In other words no waiting for anyone to get out or wake up! 5) Camping is fun! 6) I don't usually see the DEC officer but he or she usually stops in to check us out. When I do see them I usually have a few questions and they are very informed and knowledgeable. These are just a few advantages I could go on and on but that's enough for this post.

Good luck it can be hard to get it on film and do a good shot and adds another dimension to your hunt. If you capture it you will have it for ever. I am looking into getting a regular cam with a swing arm because the gopro has no zoom. This was a 25 yard shot with the Go-Pro. Look like 50 yards! I had the camera on my head.

NFA - Is a dedication to being safe up North where some never return. Started with a posted sign about David Boomhower, he was found opening weekend of that year, think it was 1991. My buddy said that's No Fooling Around and NFA was born. ADK is just a reference to the Adirondacks Sounded better than GETSOME which is my nickname as I tend to go all out when I do something. I did not want to sound imposing with NFA-GETSOME so NFA-ADK is what I used. Reference from Full Metal Jacket movie but is more about a going all in when you do something. If your going to be a bear, be a Grizzly! Jeff

Might be a rifle range day Sat? My buddy wants to hunt so if he is in I am in, otherwise it's time to check the guns. Looking forward to next weekend after this one. I took off Friday and Monday and hope to see some good movement!

I think it's close enough to pre-rut that my butt needs to be in the woods! Warm weather this week along with a drop for Saturday has me pumped up! Unless its high winds or bad rain I want to get out! I just have a feeling they will be on the move this weekend. Sunday might see some good action early if it's as cold as they say but they are calling for high winds so far. Hope that part changes. Regardless I would get out if you can, only takes one hot doe to change things!

If you see a spot is taken I would go some place else. If you can talk to them and find where they hunt you can then park in the same spot and hunt another area.

I always bring extra guns. One for hiking/stalking and still hunting, 44 Mag, one for long distance shooting, 30-06 and the 30-30. If one gets dropped any of the other 2 will work. My preference is the open sights with the 44 mag. Up close and personal it's my go-to weapon.

Good not to judge your neighbors even if they where the ones who messed up. Hope its not something that happens often. No one is perfect and a high shot can be hard to track. Good luck! Hope that's the last time I hear about that in your woods.
