    Alma pond

Now that's a good day out!
  2. I don't like the lighted knocks on any arrow unless I am toying around at night. It does add weight to the back of the arrow and should come with a counter weight for the front. My buddie uses them but offsets them with counter weights in the tip to keep good flight.
  3. Above was a repost, to show what type of arrows I am using.
  4. I am shooting the same arrows, expensive. I do like them but you might want to start shooting at different spots on the target so you don't hit your arrows, nice group!
  5. Really good looking buck! Good luck with him. He scores a perfect 8 in my book 9 if you want to count the split.
  6. These are the popular rounds many will recommend and any of these rounds will work for deer. 270, 30-30, 30-06, 35, 308. Nice thing about these rounds is you can probably get ammo at any location for these guns as they are so popular. If you are hunting primarily woody area I would recommend the 30-30 or 35 if you might have shots past 100 yards I would go with the flatter 308 in bolt action or a 30-06 or 270. All great rounds that have taken a lot of deer. Now I think it's time to get the 44 Mag ready for the rifle range think the 30-30 need some bench time too! I will save the 30-06 for colder weather so I can protect my shoulder with a little more padding.
  7. I have used them but find the deer tend to pick up that it's a decoy. Because I use calls I find that the deer are usually to close to use a decoy in most spots I hunt. (I tend to be in thick woods.) If you like to pass deer the decoy can give up your position and spook them a bit. If I was on the farm in open area it would be a great option to draw them out that's for sure! Prep as stated above is key. Try to also keep it as scent free as possible as ATBuck stated. I tend to always face the deer away from me so it does not look like it is staring at my position. Be ready, when they come in you will only have a short window before they figure out something is not right. Good luck let us know how it works for you if you try it and be safe, I usually put my orange vest over it and wear my orange hat to and from my hunting area. Stopped doing this due to safety on public land and don't use it on private as they are usually close enough to not need it.
  8. It's 73 out right now but the mornings are cooler that's for sure, hope some of this cool weather sticks around for opening week plus! It is only getting down into the lower 60's but that is cold for LI, hope we get some 50's for opening week! It does feel good!
  9. My peep has to be aligned to the left for me to see through it good, and it's blue. My first shot 30 yards. Did the paper tune today, need to realign sights a bit and test broadheads. Looking good if I can keep my form! Pulled a couple of shots today but I was getting tired.
  10. Congrats, hope you have a great season!
  11. This post had me rolling! TO FUNNY!!! Good one Jeremy K, you got me!
  12. I have been thinking about it a few guys have them and love it. Interested in hearing others opinions.
  13. Water purifier would be the way to go that deep. What type of outdoors experience do you have and how many years have you been hunting? While this type of trip sounds great in theory sometimes setting up a base camp is an easer route especially for the beginner. Setting up a few miles back solo so you can get one full day to hunt will be very hard. Most of the guys I know that do this prep for months in advance with food and gear stowed away. It would be smart, as stated above, to do a dry run before you go to basically test the waters. These are remote woods that just like the ocean you need to respect!
  14. Funny post, sounds like you had a good time and a looks like a great catch! Cool pics.
  15. I do not usually back pack in, I set up a base camp then hike in and out. I am planning on going up to Moose River around the same time. Check out Moose River Recreational area and let me know if this area interests you. If it does I can help out. Things to bring: This list is large, this is why I do not hike everything in, setting up the camp alone and unpacking all my gear is about 6 hours of work. Compass, bring 2! GPS VIP know how to use it and how to get out if it brakes! Map Flashlights, minimum 2 with spare batteries and bulbs. Drag rope, knife, deer calls. Extra clothes if going in late, really good sleeping bag. Bino's. Phones do not work in most of this area, be prepared for anything! Bring as much food as you can carry! After getting back a few miles you will need it to recoup all the energy you lost. It is about 3-4 miles back to Indian lake on a old road that is now closed. Good area to check out and would be a decent spot to try your luck. Couple of guys missed a 6 pt back by the lake, he should be a really nice 10 if he is still around. More things to add, I will come back to this post.
  16. Good GPS and flashlights if you hunt till dark or go in the dark, regardless have one. Spare battery if you use your phone to navigate and for emergency.
  17. It is an amazing bow from what I have heard. 8lbs that is amazing
  18. Binoculars depends on the distance you can see. If you can only see 30-50 yards not much need for them but if you can see past 80 yards I would. Map, compass, TP, extra release doe call can.
  19. Great advice! Since switching to the new arrows I notice I do not get a flyer on my first shot, probably because I am holding my back tension/form better. I did not paper tune and just made the left right adjustment and picked up 2 more yards on my pins so now my pins are 28-38 through 78. This was Wed at 15 yards, about an inch low, still getting use to new arrows at 15 yards my 28 pin is now only an inch or so low vs before was about 2 inches. Today 48 yards, slightly to the left but acceptable. Hope I get the last shoot of the year at Suffolk Archers in tomorrow! Looks like rain. My arrow green/white both pics are the same shot.
  20. That's it, I am moving, lol. Nice buck!

    Drone

Scouting just got real easy for some, lol. Arg sounds like a cool toy that could get out of hand real quick. Would be a really cool tool to patrol your property from the comfort of your home! Hear a shot on your land, send out the drone and take video day or night and record it for the police, you could get the plate numbers and video of the crime. If I buy 30 of them can I program them to patrol my property, lol. J/K Reminds me of the Terminator. Sara Connor?
  22. The rage 2 blade tunes really good for me, hoping once I am done Sunday it is all set up for the season. Fadetoblack188 those rage might be for low poundage bows, Rage came out with new ones because some lighter bows had issues with penetrations and operation of the blades. I think those green ones are the Rage SS 1.5 inch. I think the ones I used where red like these but I swore they where 1.5 inch cut but on the site it says 2 inch. Regardless I choose them because the fly like field tips and work well on deer. I should say great on deer, there I did.
  23. Welcome aboard Big John! Glad to have you! My NFA title has nothing to do with that site, lol. Don't want to be associated with a anti-gun site. We have a great member base, we fight sometimes but as a family site we try to keep everything civil. Even though we disagree on many things we are all brothers and sisters who really enjoy the outdoors, if that is you then your in the right spot! Again Welcome to the site, hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
