  1. ok while we are at it when I click like in a post with multiple tabs open I get ERROR or like now nothing happens, I have to close all the other posts to click like. Try closing out all other tabs so Huntingny.com is the only thing open. Seems to work better but the post do take a long time to come up after submitting, I refreshed and it showed the post.
  2. Wow sounds like a great day! Good luck! Hope to see her success later!!!
  3. If it's not on the DEC map it is probably closed. If you want to check I would call the DEC in Ridge they would have the answers but as stated I think most of the parks are closed unless they have a special permit. Some you have access to with a green belt card and others you would need a permit I believe.
  4. This is also found in nature and the scent is minimal so you do not have to worry about it causing a deer to smell you. And don't do what I did and spray it on while you are wearing your clothes this is a treatment that you have to put on your clothes and let dry before you use it!
  5. Just a FYI for all you LI hunters. Make sure you spray your clothes with Permethrin from Sawyers! Ticks on LI carry a variety of diseases Lyme is one of the many and can ruin your health, don't take that risk! It cost about 20$ for a bottle and you can do a full set of clothes for hunting the season. I just used a bottle plus for all my pants, underwear, socks, boots, base layers, bandana, pack and will do my new safety harness after I hunt tomorrow if I get one. Well worth the extra time and cost!
  6. My buddy who I promised I would hunt with opening day wants to go in the morning. Then we will do an afternoon to dark hunt. Looking for a nice light safe tree harness. That place is bad, I am going to spend more than I need to, lol. I had to walk out of the place the other day when I purchased 2 stands. It's a candy story for hunters! I hope they have some good deals but really I do not need much besides rubber boots I am told to use for scent control and the tree safety harness.
  7. Today was rainy as most know. Well I had to go to the archery range to help a friend so I shot also. First shot was good 30 yards. Next 4 shots where good but I always shoot the shoulder on the coyote so I took a second for the 10 spot, the next 2 deer shots are about 25-26 yards the coyote was 38 yards. Then I shot at 48 yards and hit low and did not think much about it and took another shot and aimed higher, no big deal I thought. Then I tested my broadheads yes in the rain, why not I am hunting in the rain... Wow was I hitting low! I found out when I got home my peep slid down when I was adjusting it, lucky for me I did not play with the sights! Now I have to reshoot tomorrow before we do an afternoon to dark hunt. Glad I tested, now I have to retest at least it's an easy fix as I already put it back and it slide in a notch on the string so I am pretty sure tomorrow will have me back on target. My 39 pin went to 35 I was like WOW these broad heads are heavy, then I remember I weighed them! Last minute struggles, lol. PS: Shooting in the rain sucks!
  8. September 20th I was aiming for the bottom corner, I think this was 20 yards. Second picture is Sep 27th bottom right was my first shot on target # 3. 25 yards or possibly 30 not sure sorry I have been busy, lol trying to get everything ready.
  9. I am on the patch now. LETS DO THIS!!!
  10. I love hunting in the rain but my gear hates me for it! Took my 2010 and 2013 ADK bucks in rain like stated before the real issue is tracking your game after the shot. Lucky for me the deer was in sight in 2010 and 2013 was at the last location I saw him 10 ft away. You want to talk about making the first shot count! Rain is a still hunters best friend! Snow is a trackers.
  11. Happy B-Day hope you have a great day!!! And get a big buck this season!
  12. Good luck TugHill Tamer! I will be hunting private land that I only have access to because of a hunting friend and he does not want any doe shot in the "big buck" area we will be hunting. I will probably hunt state land on Sunday then it's gloves off for any doe. That's a cool story Grampy! I once had a doe that busted me 3 times several years apart. Like you I set up in different spots yet she always busted me. Old doe know there woods like no other and can be much smarter than bucks I agree!
  13. Like! Just figured I would give this a bump because he is a stud! If that does not get your heart pumping you're on the wrong site!!!
  14. Don't worry when I shoot my monster buck this year I will let any of you sit next to me.
  15. I am with you, have to do it for the season and most of all my health, dam bad habit makes us stink, literally.
  16. Speaking of shooting at 5 yards... Anyone try it? We do a shot that is about 4-5 yards max and most of us have to use a 40 yard pin due to the arrow still rising to meet the sight pin. Try it! Most do not realize that 10 ft to 5 yards is a 40 yard pin. Can't tell you how upset I was when I did this with a gun!
  17. November 9th, 2 days after I missed my Birthday buck. Sometimes mistakes can be a good thing because the one I missed looked nothing like him!
  18. Basically I am already bent when I draw and usually do not shoot directly below as I prefer broadside so I need to let them get at least 10-15 yards or more depending on how high I am in the tree.
  19. I just shaved my full to a goat and might shave clean before the season starts. My season goes to Jan and possibly longer this year so the beard has to be trimmed at times that's why I like to start off fresh but now I am debating not going through the itch of a clean start. The big decisions I have to make O my. I am with Doewhacker on this one, its free camo!!!
  20. That's cool they are pretty awesome predators.
  21. In general any deer over 180 dressed is a big deer in my book. I was lucky enough to catch one over 200 in 2010. Depending on the time of year and how active they are in the rut can make a big difference as NYAntler stated. Food resources is another factor along with genes. I know typically 200lbs is a mark many would like to hit and is considered a very big buck. By the time we finished dragging this deer out I was getting weight estimates of 225-240, he hit the scale 3 days later at 207lbs. Do you think I was happy? Still can't get over how awesome this buck and the adventure was 6 years later. Just went down and thanked him and his 2 brothers for the adventures they have put me through over the past 28 years chasing the great whitetail.
  22. When I am shooting good and that usually means hitting within a 2-3 inch group max at 60 yards I usually limit myself to about 50 yards. (Un-alert deer.) That said when my form is bad and I am shooting bad I will limit myself to 30 yards or so 35 max if the deer is alert and that is pushing it. Shooting year round I know when I am on or off. Can't say I would not shoot past 50 but my form and the deer would have to be perfect. The stars never align that well, lol. Alert deer and I have good form 35 yards plus. Relaxed deer good form 50 yards. Bad form poor shooting I once limited myself to 25 yards due to neck issues. Basically my ability is the first factor and deer alertness is second. If the season was on right now I would probably limit myself to 40 yards but I am in the middle of tuning and setting up broadheads so a few things need to be finished before I can set all my pins and determine how accurately I am shooting.
