Do gun laws make us safe?
NFA-ADK replied to NFA-ADK's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
I get more and more upset when I hear of new gun laws that basically penalize the people who follow the law, criminals do not follow the law. The more laws we make just seems like a justification to grab more guns from anyone caught braking a new law. It justifies taking away your guns by making you and normal people a criminal. Then they can say he had an assault rifle, or a 30 round clip or a pistol grip, or any other stupid law that makes no sense. Funny how even with all the mass knife attacks they do not ban them, or ban trucks and cars as deadly weapon that kill hundreds more than guns. Crazy people in this world! And most of them are in office, lol. -
I would think he is 3.5, looks like a real dandy! Score is rough to estimate without him shedding. I would guess in the mid 130's possibly higher or lower depending on how his brow tines come out, they could still have some growth. Lets do this again after he sheds then again when you get your hands on him, sounds like a good game plan! Good luck! Hope to see you in pics with him later!

Question about hunting with licensed tracking dogs in the Northern zone
NFA-ADK replied to Padre86's topic in General Hunting
Good luck I would just make sure when you are "hiking" with your dog you do not have a firearm. Don't think you will be meet with open arms if you see a hunter who is hunting while you and your unleashed dog are hiking though but good luck. -
We are hosting the Hunters Rendezvous at Suffolk Archers on Sunday August 21st of this month. We will have all sorts of hunting related info about where to hunt, a trading spot if you want to sell some old bows, quivers etc. We will be doing shot placement, tree stand safety, tracking, blood tracking, how to clean your game. We will have deer search do a presentation with a tracking dog at 8 AM to kick it off. Last year I did the shot placement, this year no one wanted to do the calling so I will be doing that part of it with rattling and different calls I have used over the years to help get deer. Free breakfast and lunch, no charge to enter! Come on down and introduce yourself! I will be hosting a 3D shoot after the presentations are finished, this will be a realistic shoot with most shots under 35 yards so I am hoping for a few perfect or close to it scores! All are invited if you have a friend or family member interested in hunting bring them down it is a great even to get someone started in deer hunting! Hope to see some of our members! Anyone interested in doing some turkey calling or helping me with the deer calling can send me a PM. (I am not a turkey hunter and this is my week spot but it is on the sheet as something I need to teach, any help would be appreciated in this aspect!) (Most hunters are interested in deer vs turkey, last year not one person asked about how to hunt a turkey but I would rather be prepared just in case someone is interested.) If you can make it let me know by responding, if you are interested in helping me with calling send me a PM.

http://www.americanpatriotdaily.com/latest/university-of-chicago-accidentally-proves-that-gun-control-laws-dont-work/#disqus_thread Proof that gun laws do not stop criminals but will cause the common gun owner to become a criminal due to new laws. Another article states the Feds are not removing gun owner info, creating a data base for confiscation. Preaching to the choir I know but good info. Thoughts?

Go get them! Personally I would rather have the snakes than the pack rat but dislike both!

Lobster claw is on my hit list

Sucks the picture was so bad, looks decent.

Sounds like a GPS locator would be good for tree stands and trail cams! At least if it was stolen you could get it back or if lost you could relocate it.
-
Unfortunately, It's my turn to make this thread...
NFA-ADK replied to regulat0r's topic in General Hunting
That's a bunch of stands Buckmaster7600! That really sucks, portable climber is one option. Like the trail camera idea but it is possible they will take them too and then your out a bunch of money. Report it to the police and etch your info on all your stands so you have proof if they are ever found that they belong to you. Sounds like we need GPS locators in our tree stands! It would help us keep track and if lost the police would have a easy time finding it and the criminal behind the vail. -
Question about hunting with licensed tracking dogs in the Northern zone
NFA-ADK replied to Padre86's topic in General Hunting
You are basically jeopardizing the health of the dog and possibly terminating its life if you fail to come back, in real remote woods it is not a possibility it can become a reality. Make sure that dog is leashed at all times regardless of if your hiking or not. Not every hunter knows what a tracking dog is and in deep woods during hunting season a tracking dog can be mistaken for fox, yote or any other excuse to take him out as vermin, don't let that happen! Don't bring your dog, just hit the range more, your confidence will be so high you will not worry about need a dog to track. We all have some issues when it comes to shooting a big deer, make the shooting part of it second nature and practice stopping the deer or managing yourself to take more ethical shots and you will not even think about ever needing a tracking dog. Start tracking for some hunters, you will see why you as a tracker and dog recovery tracker should have the ability to take exceptional shots, so when you have a marginal error it still leads to a dead deer within 100 yards. -
Could be, my buddy is big into ponds I asked him and then looked it up. He said they use clay too, really amazing things we can do today. Great way to make a spot into a watering hole!

Don't have to pay just apply unless they changed it but I believe it is still the same.

Thanks for sharing! Very nice bucks! I would get thrown out if I posted the pics of our deer, lol. Good grief your uncle shot a slob! WOW! Makes me want to move! Good luck this year WNY Bowhunter! Hope you get your hands on those long G1's!

Interesting, I will be following this for sure!

Looks like he was probably using Bentonite. This explains it pretty good. http://sturgismaterials.com/products-view/sodium-bentonite/ Pretty cool stuff we have today! Amazing.
-
It would be nice to know what it is he's using. It would seem like some sort of fine material that helps bond to the second layer forming a seal and probably seeping into the cracks to help reinforce the seal. Very cool stuff! Thanks Growalot! I might be able to find out some info. I will check.

DEC Announces New Deer, Bear Regulations
NFA-ADK replied to NY Trophy Hunter's topic in Deer Hunting
Very nice! So they did actually listen to hunters about the doe only for the first 2 weeks. Probably because the goals where not met to what they expected. Very happy I will be hunting opening day of bow this year, look out doe you are on the radar now! -
Amazing how big they can get with some age.
-
Just proving what we already know! Very cool!

Question about hunting with licensed tracking dogs in the Northern zone
NFA-ADK replied to Padre86's topic in General Hunting
Simply stated your question has been answered: "Can I bring my dog with me while hiking to my hunting spot? Or before I make a bad shot and need him to track because he is much quicker than I can track? NO simply put you would be braking the law if you go afield with your dog and a firearm! Now if you call the DEC and have to track for someone then you would be ok. If you are really going into a remote location you would have to leave the woods just to make a call, did you think of that? What is the point of leaving your dog in a car if you are hunting for hours back in remote woods? Do you really plan on needing the dog? As a hunter you should not need this to track a wounded animal. This is not the dogs responsibility in remote woods it is all on you! Shame on you if you do leave the dog in the car while hunting, planning on using him to track. How about you practice shooting more! I understand you want to bring your dog hunting, I think it would be awesome to do it in the ADK but what you are talking about is the need for a good tracker. Otherwise Yes you can hunt with your dog you just can't harass any animals or have any weapons. Sounds to me like you got a dog so you can use him to track for you instead of tracking for yourself. Again hard to call the DEC when you are in real remote woods, cell service is nonexistent so you would have to get out of the woods just to call the DEC and let them know you need help tracking your own wounded deer. No gray area, hunting it is illegal to have a dog, tracking FOR SOMEONE ELSE is different that is why the course is set up, not so hunters can take the course and then have the impression that the dog should always come and stay in the truck in case I make a poor shot. Poor excuse to take the course. Are you actually planning on tracking for other hunters or did you take the course so you can bring your dog out to track your deer? -
Monster Buck- Best Wildlife Pic I Ever Took
NFA-ADK replied to blackradio's topic in Hunting Related Pictures
Nice buck, hope you get a crack at him, good luck with access. -
If they implement the 2 week doe again they really have no concept of what hunters want. Insurance agencies yes. Then they wonder why some do not care about surveys that they seem to disregard.

Welcome aboard! Great to have you!
