  1. My wife bought me the Gander Mountain #12 grinder for Xmas about 4 years ago http://www.gandermountain.com/modperl/product/details.cgi?pdesc=Gander-Mountain-12-Professional-Electric-Meat-Grinder&i=754157. I've used it on at least 2-3 deer a year and it works fine. States it does 4 lbs/minute, although I never really checked it for time. But you definitely have to pre freeze the chunks of meat before you run them through the grinder. I try to put the meat on wax paper covered cookie sheets for at least 20-30 minutes before I grind. Seems to work the best. It is normally $150 but they do run sales. Good luck and enjoy the time together with your hunting buds and a couple of cold ones!
  2. where are you getting bulk vac bags?
  3. I called Elite on Wednesday and left a message, Emily from customer service called me back yesterday and a longer replacement post is being shipped, no charge! Now i just have to wait until it arrives, hope it works. Great customer service, she commented on the fact that they want all of their customers to be happy with all their products.
  4. sure the VW can handle a little terrorist bomb, but can it handle 5-6 WNY winters?
  5. I might have to check out the "sales" at Dick's. I don't really need anything as I already purchased a new bow earlier this year, but I am a sucker for a sale on tree stands. Of course I will be at the opening of Cabela's in August.!
  6. I appreciated the link to the video, I had never seen this program before. As for aging on the fly.... the best buck I ever killed was a nice 10 pointer, it turned out to be a 4.5 year old. I didn't know how old he was until I took it in to have it checked for an archery contest. The buck field dressed out at only 147 lbs. he probably lost a lot of weight during the Rut. To me he was definitely a "shooter". In my book I try not to take any bucks smaller than 8 pointer, just my own standards, I have taken enough young bucks over the years and personally don't want to kill the young ones. If I need the meat i'll take a doe. When in a stand and I see a buck coming in I can decide in a few seconds if it's a shooter or not. I don't need to know if it is 2.5 or 4.5 years old, I know what i am willing to shoot and what I will let go. Although I have watched several bucks as they came closer I started flipping coins, so maybe armed with these pointers from the video I will make a better decision. JMHO
  7. thanks for the link, I never saw this show before.
  8. " You may need to push out the nylon fasteners from the mount " Moog that was what I was thinking, but I will call Elite first to see if I can get the longer post as that seems much easier and will look better. Thanks for the help.
  9. here are some pics, it looks like I should be able to get longer bolts for where the quiver mounts to the bracket on the bow and put in a longer spacer. The first pic is with the quiver mounted on the bottom of the riser. it works but doesn't feel right. second pic shows where it should be, 3rd and 4th are with it mounted to the bottom, and last pic is it mounted normal but it hits my adjustment screw for the sight. The pic of the bracket doesn't show it but the 2 posts where the quiver mounts to the bracket can be unscrewed. That's what i think i can replace with longer bolts and add some spacers. I only need 1/4 -1/2 " to clear the sight. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem with the Elite quivers.
  10. I will post pics ASAP. sorry.
  11. Most 3D shoots use a variety of animals and different distances. If you are shooting a compound bow in addition to all that has been suggested, you may want to bring a hand arrow grip/puller. I know when I shoot 3d it is difficult to pull my arrows out of some of the targets.
  12. I have an Elite Hunter with the elite detachable quiver. The problem I have is I put on a truglo range rover adjustable 1 pin sight and now the quiver hits the lock bolt on the sight. Any ideas? can i get longer mounting bolts for the quiver to clear the sights? It doesn't look like I can mount the quiver on the sight because it has to be able to move to adjust the range. I flipped the mount to the bottom of the riser and it clears but it is mounted upside down. Looks and feels wrong, although it works. Any one experience this problem?
  13. Use a large electric roaster, add onions, bell peppers, bottle of wine, salt , and pepper. use dry rub of your choice and add legs,(might have to cut the knee joint to fit into pan). Cover with water and cook @ 200* for 12 hours or until meat falls off the bones. Pick up some good fresh hard rolls and add your fav. bbq sauce. That's it, You can tweak the recipe to suit your own tastes.
  14. Sold my truck. Mods can lock this thread. Thanks.
  15. We used to camp at ASP w/ the kids years ago. Gave up because it is always crowded and a lot of late night party animals. Try golf at Cardinal Hills in Randolph. Nice course not too far down I 86 towards Jamestown. Enjoy the get away!!
  16. I am looking to sell my 2002 Ford F150 XLT It has some typical WNY rust, 155K, V6, 4 speed automatic, cruise, a/c, keyless entry, electric windows, am/fm/cassette/6disc cd, towing pkg., Jason fiberglass cap. runs great, everything works. I am the original owner all service has been done locally at certified shops. I will post it locally on craigslist. send PM or text me @ 716 239-9359 Looking to get $2000.00 cash. Thanks, Pictures on craigslist http://buffalo.craigslist.org/cto/4566938043.html
  17. Some great info here, don't know if I agree with the craigslist comment. I just sold my 4 yr old Elite gt500 on craigslist for $350. complete set up all that u need is arrows. But that might be the exception. Definitely try several bows until you find one that fits you and the price is right. You can hunt with it for a couple of years and then by new bow when you know exactly what you like in a bow.
  18. I have an old butchers bone saw and it works good. Just need a little elbow grease. (I have never changed the blade and it is years old) I have used my sawzall when i cut of the rack to do the European skull mounts. It works much faster than the hand saw but I find it difficult to get a good straight cut. When I cut up my deer I usually bone it out and only use the bone saw to cut off the lower leg bone. I save the front legs whole and cook them in one of those large roasting pans set at 200* for 12 hrs. the meat just falls off the bones and you end up with pulled venison. But that's another forum.
  19. It's interesting, each year as I scout and decide where to put up a new stand there has been an old broken down wood stand within 50 yds of where I find the best sign! I guess the more things change the more they stay the same. Gman the new stands look great.
  20. A buddy told me he stepped into a half dozen poults on the last day of May. they were in the corner of a field and he could hear momma near by soft clucking.
  21. I have tried way too many boots over the years. I like the rubber boots for bow season for the scent control, plus where I hunt the is always water to deal with. The problem is most rubber boots lack in proper support and I get heel spur flare ups. I tried the high top side zipper insulated boots from Irish setter but they leaked.Even though they were "100%" waterproof. I have 8" rocky 400 gram camo boots usually use during turkey season but they didn't hold up and they leak. Plus no matter what I try when I stand hunt my feet get cold after 2-3 hour sit. I usually use foot and toe warmers from grabber, tried light socks under wool socks, nothing seems to work. Can't fix poor circulation.
  22. I've noticed the white spots on things that got over spray on them but i never knew about the salt base. i will definitely be more careful in the future. Thanks,
  23. You are an animal!! But when you get to my age you will be paying for it. everything will ache!
