A Push to Split NY State
Culvercreek hunt club replied to fasteddie's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
I would take my chances with even higher taxes because I believe it would be short term. There actually would end up being jobs creation and upstate would be attractive to manufacturing again. larger tax base and it would result in lower taxes in long term. Not to mention a different approach to mandated programs. -

So what happens if you did a sale to your wife and then just never filed the paperwork to remove it from yours? -

Get your vaseline ready NY! Its here...

I apply for my first doe permits down at my hunting camp that isn't in the effected areas. I always get one and many times two. I then apply for the late draw in 8H because they are always available. My camp is never available in the late draw so that is why I go in that order. Problem with the late draw permits that are always available for 8H and many of the areas in this change, is they are NOT AVAILABLE UNTIL NOVERMBER 1ST!!!. It makes it hard to fill them from October 1st through 15th when you don't have them until November. My either sex is usually filled up in the NZ with ML. and unless a buddy signs one over to me in 8H I have to wait until November to shoot a doe in this area. -

No, I'll just hunt in an adjacent WMU for the first two weeks. Save my best stand sets for when I can take a buck. I know many that will be doing the same, which WILL have the opposite result the DEC is looking for. (or what they publicly say they are looking for) -
A Push to Split NY State

Does the Federal Govt, have a say in this? I would love to see it but realize it would be a long shot of all long shots. I kind of see it as almost two issues. What are the needed step in NY for this to take place and what has to happen for the Fed's to recognize the change? -
What do you do if in an unfamiliar area, have an opportunity to put a stalk on a deer ? I do most of my ranging prior to any deer showing up as well but it sure is nice to have, especially in open fields

verify in regs. but I think they removed that restriction for the early (September), resident goose hunt.

How many of you guys that say not to shoot it, would shoot that spike buck?

If it meets the legal requirements and you want to take it, then have at it. Bear are one of the hardest animals to judge for size. especially from a photo like this. It appears your camera is up high and looking down? I would be willing to bet that NY's average size bear taken every year is no more than 150#s. a year and a half old male, displaced by it's mother may not even go over 100 pounds.

They didn't appear to need an amendment for this hair brained idea?

My Ford F-150. New King Pinion, 3 vacuum hubs, Vacuum pump. plug blown out through aluminum head, rear end rebuilt. 3 tensioner pulleys on the Serpentine belt. Oh and that was all prior to 60,000 miles. -
It used to be the third Monday in November. Now it is 23 days starting on the third Saturday.

in Ontario at the camp I went to, they take bears over 300 and 400 each year. Last year the largest went over 600. The lands boarder the Algonquin Provincial Park. which is MASSIVE and really allows them to get old.

Ribs are wonderful in a smoker. And of course the many sausage (venison) recipes out there

trimmed steaks. Thaw. mix 50/50 brown sugar and montreal steak seasoning. Pulverize in blender. rub into steaks and wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate over night. grill to medium. some of the best eating there is. It was said before. The only bad bear I have had was a dump bear that a friend shot. natural diet of with an outfitter that baits with meats and grain will be wonderful eating.

Hard to tell from the angle of the picture, but is it accurate that the highest part of the marks are about a foot above the top of the gun barrel?

Personally, I want a sustainable, balanced resource to hunt. Many opportunities to hunt varied species with varied weapons with a good likelihood that I can take game and have a decent chance at a trophy to boot. My hunting is as much a social experience as it is the challenge of the hunt. I prefer long seasons that allow me to enjoy that aspect of the sport. And for the record I don't think wanting deer numbers at a level to allow forest regeneration makes a 'tree hugger". That would be the ideal maximum numbers for a herd. Where a tree hugger tag would be appropriate would be to be against tree harvest and also be against deer harvest and those two fly in the face of each other. maturing forests that provide less and less food source with each successive year for a growing deer herd. That is emotional management and not conservation. Very few of our species in NY are mature forest species.

Yeah, what a novel idea and a fantasy pipe dream.....manage the resource for the best of the resource.

I think it falls on the parents and it doesn't start at 12 IMO. I am glad they did the youth season although I am not 100% convinced it is a big draw. I am more of a "any little bit helps" mentality. when I started you had to be 16 to big game hunt. There may have been a younger age for archer but none of out hunting party did so I never was exposed to it. I started myself at 18. I think you have to have them involved as soon as you think they can handle the reality of what actually happens. I was going deer hunting with my father every weekend from age 8 and looked forward to opening day more than Christmas every year.

I know. The reason I asked about the water bath is because it almost looked like be was doing smoked beans at the same time.
