What time did you hear the first shots today.

Got ya all beat 6:08 first shot when off in the Town of Howard! -
Here we go! Brother has been at the cabin since Tuesday. He put a two man stand so his grandson can join him on opening morning, he is 6. My niece and her husband got up there Wed night and bow hunted yesterday. She was in my stand and had a real nice 10 pt at 40 yards. he didn't come any closer. They will hunt again today. I'm coming up this afternoon with a friend. Good luck to everyone. Btw my neighbor found a buck with its head cut off just off our road. We know of one bow shot deer that was never found in the area, hope it wasn't poached?

My spot has yielded so many deer over the years. On the edge of a bedding area where they cross from the feeding area. That stand has someone in it during legal shooting hours all the time. I usually hunt it hard the first two days. This year I gave it up for my Niece who is looking for her first buck.

I got an equity loan on my house and used the cash to pay for the land.

weather for Sunday of the southern opener is looking good
First-light replied to rob-c's topic in Deer Hunting
I just looked at the updated forecast for 8P. I don't like it one bit. Saturday 65 rain in the afternoon. Temps drop at night snow all day Sunday into Monday afternoon. Total snow 8-12 ". Got to shoot them Saturday morning. Grow you are so right about the woods, I will pass that along to my hunters. -
8P is expecting 3-5 inches of snow during the day.

Daughters leaving for her college interview.
First-light replied to First-light's topic in General Chit Chat
My daughter has her own opinions and they are very strong. Nobody will ever be able to sway her one way or another. Interview went great and she on the Field hockey team pending admission! -
Early decision was given to Muhlenberg College in PA. Kid loves the school and hopefully will be playing for the Field Hockey team. Good luck to Michaela!

First I hope you get your deer. Second I have hit deer that did the mule kick, flipped over and made noise. These shots (2) have left me with no deer. I believe I hit bone, I did find both arrows that were bent, the deer bled like your deer. Again I hope you find him and good luck. Look around the shot site for that arrow, it will give you many clues. GL

Been debating a choice I have opening morning. My camp is full with the usual people up there. I gave up my "Honey hole" stand in Death valley to my niece opening morning. She is looking for her first buck and I thought the gesture would be nice. Before I owned the camp I hunted with my brother in law at his place for 25 years. About an hour away in Schylur county. Some great memories and big deer shot. I'm toying with the idea to head over there Friday night after dinner to hunt with him opening morning. He has been hunting by himself for the last couple of years. Still undecided on the situation. If I find out he has someone with him I'll probably stay then. Just don't know what to do………still have week to decide though!

I have the same deal at my camp. My neighbor is like a brother to me. He does all those things for me that you talked about. Best part is he is up there full time watching over the place. Take it one step at a time to feel each other out. Sounds like it will be a good relationship!

Venison loaded Nachos!!!!

So the doe that My brothers son in law shot had apples in the stomach. We noticed that they looked nicely sliced like someone did it with a knife. I would think a deer would chew an apple and swallow. If someone was baiting with apple slices and they were small enough for the deer to just swallow could this be the case?

I've gone through it all. Best way to shoot a deer with the bow when it all happens in a matter of seconds. No time to think about anything. At the age of 53 I'm finding my eyes are starting to be a problem. I have glasses for distance. There are progressives and I really don't like them in the stand. Don't move your head but stain your eyes the edge of the lens is blurry. I'm thinking about laser surgery very soon.

So I was only up for 1.5 days. My brother and his son in law were that for an extra day. The place looked great and there was a ton of scrapes on the property. In the past my group has been busted on for not being able to shoot that great with the bow and I agree…….this weekend was different when two of us connected with first archery tackle deer. Im proud of my brother and his son in law for making it happen. I came across a non typical 8 at 20 yards but didn't take a shot, just wasn't right. Her are some picts from the weekend. IMG_0907.3gp

Finally going to get up to the cabin Monday-Wednesday of next week to bow hunt. My brother and his son in law will be up on Sunday. My neighbor has been seeing a ton of bucks this year, the most he has ever seen. My brother stopped in last week to mow the lawn. He took a walk around the property and said it was loaded with scrapes. Maybe this is our year with the bow! We got two doe permits for the 4 of us. Good luck all.
