Riverhead Homeowner shoots intruder in his home
hunter replied to Deerthug's topic in General Chit Chat
Couldn't open the link but a person has a right to defend himself and family. Better than the other way around. -
You should get medical help immediately. Even if you are not allergic to a bee sting multiples are a different story. Especially with symptoms. Good luck.

The pressure tank was part of the pump set, it was small probably 3 gal or less. I thought it was the way to go so the pump wouldn't short cycle. I am looking into 55 gal barrels for the storage tank. I will check out the pump you gave me the link to also. Thanks Culver.

Just an update, I got the spring water flowing again to the camp with gravity. I am looking into a tank or barrell then will use a shallow well pump and pressure tank from one of the tool places for $150. Not enough flow to go tankless.

You're welcome. I hope you and the family keep it and enjoy it.

If you own the land you can offer whatever terms you choose. There are many who will pay for private land privileges without the high cost of a year round lease. If the cabin is liveable you can offer it on a week by week basis. This way you can get Turkey hunters in May and bowhunters in Oct.etc. If you can plant a food plot and show pics of deer you can charge a nice rental. Most lodges get almost a thosand for three days per hunter so you could probably get a thosand or more per week. I don't know what the leagal issues are but some charge a game fee if successful like $150 for a buck or $100 for a doe. If legal and your charging a group a low fee like a thousand a buck fee of $200 or $250 might be possible. I would limit the rentals to two or three people because the property isn't big enough to hunt more safely. Or you could make it bow only even during gun season. Check out VRBO for non hunting rentals. Many people would love a "rustic" vacation. $500 a week would be cheap on this web site and maybe help keep it in the family. I don't know which option is best but I hear if you use it for agriculture there are tax advantages too. Good luck.

THE GREAT HEALTH CARE DEBATE..
hunter replied to sits in trees's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
With all respect, sits in trees, I don't think you realize the law only applies to those who can afford to buy insurance. Some bureaucrat like Sebelius or appointed panel neither of which are elected or can be voted out decide what level that is. So now they have the IRS going after us while protecting the lazy, the criminal and the illegals all of whom must recieve the same level of treatment as the rest of us. When there isn't enough care to go around panels will decide who gets the care. translation death panels. Meaning you or your loved one could pay into the system your whole life but a young criminal or illegal is given care you are refused because you're old or very sick. -

THE GREAT HEALTH CARE DEBATE..
hunter replied to sits in trees's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
I remember an interview with Hillary when health care was discussed. The issue of forcing insurance companies to pay for people at Emergency Rooms was mentioned and a sly grin came over her face and she said she was in the Senate for that and was proud of it. The interviewer then mentioned that the insurance companies were allowed to raise their fees by about $1oo a month and the grin just got bigger. This was the start of rediculous costs and it wasn't greedy insurance companies it was big brother. If they are so damned worried about charity why don't they call it that and set up a seperate dept to administer it like a welfare program that it is. No, they piggy back it on medicare or sneak the cost into all the honest people trying to take care of their families insurance premiums. Then they ask why more people don't buy health insurance. Really? Maybe with all the billions about to be wasted on this health care scam why not open more medical schools and require that free clinics be open to train the new doctors and require the patients to prove they are here legally and can't afford to pay for it. The illegals should be treated for serious issues and deported with their families. BTW sending someone home is not punishment it is fair and ethical. I would bet most of you don't know what's in this bill. Sales tax on real estate transactions at a time when we are all going to take a loss on sales. Taking over the student loan business, what the hell does that have to do with health care? I don't know all the details either but it looks a lot more like a totalitarian power grab the anything else. -
THE GREAT HEALTH CARE DEBATE..
hunter replied to sits in trees's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
I have to ask is there anyone who doesn't know Obama is a liar? It has been documented ad nauseam, transparency, no lobbyists, plus bribes for votes etc. But let's review a few pertaining to his health care law: No you can't keep yor doctor. Yes there will be death panels( you can call them whatever you want ), No you won't be getting his level of health care, Is it a tax or a fine ( the penalty for not having insurance ). BTW does anyone realize how little the law spells out and how much is left to the Sec of Health and appointed panels? I have no love for the medical profession but does anyone believe a president who goes on TV and claims doctors are removing tonsils and amputating feet to make money? This law with Obama's crooked financing counts the same half billion twice but really takes a half billion away from medicare. Sadly, many things look good on paper but don't deliver in reality like socialism. Every time it has been tried it has developed into a dictatorship and the ruling class get good living quarters and health care while the rest of the population suffers disgusting conditions. Even in Canada and England where free health care is used as an example you have to wait so long for surgery that a stage one cancer can develop into stage two or three by the time you're allowed to have it. Many Canadians who can afford it come here and pay cash for their medical needs so they can get them while still being effective. Now ad to this Obama's open mike moment where he was recorded telling the president of Russia he can be more flexible on removing missle defense systems from Europe after his election. OK Russia is our enemy, they have done more to help Iran develop nuclear weapons than anyone else. So why is the leader of the free world making promises he knows we don't want him to keep? BTW why would a missle defense system bother anyone who isn't planning to launch a missle? Can't the smartest man in the world figure that out? It's like walking up to a cop and asking him to take off his bullet proof vest. I don't plan on shooting you but that vest is really pissing me off. Huh? -

The truth about gun safes
hunter replied to WNYBuckHunter's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
I saw a show that advised against putting safes in basements. Much more likely to flood, either natural causes like rain or ground water. Then you have plumbing leaks and water from fire dept. if you have a fire acculmulating down there. Great video WNY thanks. -
WTB Camillus USA Gran'Pa Folding Knife
hunter replied to Early's topic in Hunting Items For Sale and Trade
Early, did you get that knife on Ebay? -
Yes they did and those camp carbines get a nice buck these days. I found one in 45 for my brother a while ago for $450 in great shape and it seems like a bargain in todays market. I think Ruger made a 9mm and a 40, I think basicaly as police long guns but they were available to the public. The Marlin in 45 takes a Colt mag and I believe the Ruger could be ordered in either Glock clip or another possibly S&W in 40. Not sure about the 9mm version as I was only interested in the 40.
-
Early, is it only Sunday in Oneonta? I'll be at my camp but don't know if I'm staying till Sunday.
-
I read an article about the big bores that claimed part of the problem was the rounds needed a scope to best use them and the 94 wasn't really a good platform for a scope because of the top eject. I think there was a 95 in 405 that Teddy Roosevelt used in Africa on safari. Iron sights.
-
I think one was 307
-
Not to be difficult but a 38 revolver has many advantages and even though I don't have any experience with the 327 mag it's supposed to be good for self defence which is what we're talking about. 327 is a six shot and with a three inch barrel I think you'd be better off. JMO Good luck on whatever you decide. PS if you stay with a 380 check out Beretta, my brother has one and it's never jammed. Can't say that about too many guns, which is why I got rid of my Kel-Tec in 40. It jammed.

Too bad, but sounds like a good trip anyway.

Pygmy, was night hunting legal? I believe it is in SC. Main thing is everyone had a good safe trip.
