  1. Doc, I actually stayed at that camp on a bear hunt around 2000. It was owned by Al and Wendy when I was there.
  2. Maine Moose permit closes May 14. Putting in again. Good luck to all who apply.
  3. Try finding the local pennysaver or equivalent. I can post ads from my computer in NY.
  4. Welcome, Jason. First thing you should do is apply for your firearms control board permit so hopefully you can buy a gun for next season.
  5. Congrats, now you can age your deer without worrying if it will spoil. Good luck.
  6. Aren't they gonna be considered assault rifles due to the pistol grip?
  7. I've been thinking of getting a Marlin Bolt in 7-08.
  8. Look on gunbroker.com. I found mine new in box old stock from a shop in midwest a few years ago for $250. Even with shipping and ffl fee couldn't do any better. Good luck.
  9. Good luck to her with it. You chamber a round by the tip up barrel and it's a .25 cal.
  10. Praying for the victims and their families.
  11. Thanks for the tips guys.
  12. Just picked up a CVA optima and will be trying ML for the first time yhis year. Any advice will be appreciated. My brother is experienced and will help me out but doesn't have the same gun so any suggestions on loads and powder or pellets welcome. Can't wait to get out in the woods with it. Good luck to all going out for ML
  13. I think the bleach and water is after you boil off the hair and skin, at least that's what I do.
  14. From what I see on TV there still are moonshiners. I had some from Tenn. once and I could have run my truck on it. As far as "vegie" gardens go my camp was a grow house with the large BR insulated with 2" styrofoam including the windows and a vent fan blowing under the cabin. The small BR had incubators. I'm afraid to light a pipe of apple tobacco for fear that a swat team might come rappeling down the hill.lol
  15. Hey guys, I've been going to Maine for over 10 years. Deer are scarce, most of the locals track. I usually go to the Rangeley area and there is plenty of open land. Most is owned by timber and paper companies but open to all. You can go to a lodge but I wouldn't overpay cause odds are low. Beautiful state I've seen moose close up and alot of black bear. You can rent a house from VRBO reasonable and ride the logging roads hoping to cut a track in snow hopefully or mud. Good luck.
  16. A few years ago my back was sore and I wore a Thermo Care Back unit and it kept me warm all day. This has become a regular stratergy for cold weather. I always carry a backup but never needed it.
  17. Congrats GMan. Awesome bear.
  18. Dom, I just saw code blue bear attactant in Tom's in Ellenville yesterday. It was a big bottle so you would have to put 1.5 ounces in a small bottle to take in the field as I think that is the limit in NY. Good luck. I know there are other brands besides anise oil. Good luck.
  19. I have an 870 and love it but if I was buying a slug gun today I would def look at the Savage bolt action in 12 or 20. More accurate than ones with removable barrels. Good luck.
  20. I know it sucks especially since you called to confirm this year. Maybe you could trade for one you can use. Don't let it ruin your season. Good luck.
  21. Elmo, for a novice you are finding deer and getting within 20 yards, you are doing good. Second, you knew not to take a frontal shot, good call. Remember the spot that was too open for bow cause you might get a shot during gun. You might try going in for an evening hunt at the first spot and mark the backtrail so you can find your way out and hopefully not help someone else find his way in. It is state land. Glad you survived the treestand collapse. You are lucky not to have major injuries.
  22. Elmo, sorry to hear about the fall but thank God you're OK.
  23. Good luck guys and gals, be safe.
