  1. The past 4 or 5 years I have just used pain hypoallergenic laundry detergent ( unscented no perfumes or dyes) then spray down my clothes, and boots, with scent killer before I go out. I have had the same results. Deer--bucks- down wind and close never flinch, I am in a tree and assume you are too. I think my method is way cheaper but if you have something that works stay with it...... Just me....
  2. I have a Rem. 700 in 30-06 that I have taken quite a few deer with. It's smooth and accurate. I use to own a model 70 and that was a damn good rifle too so I would say what ever feels the best when you shoulder it. Do they even make Ithaca's anymore??
  3. Nice!! I've scored a few times on Thanksgiving morning...it's a good feeling. Congrats

    head shots

X3 Right through the ribs = dead deer + no wasted meat.
  5. I have been hunting for 33 years and have only been stopped by DEC 3 times. Never a problem. I have been fishing for about 40 years and have been stopped only twice.
  6. Guess not. To shoot yourself is bad enough but to shoot yourself in the hand with a rifle???? Im trying to imagine how that happened.
  7. Never tried to smoke venison. .....How would I do a couple hind roasts???? I just have a plain CharBroil smoker. Non propane
  8. If you are positive that it's on your land, tear it down. Unfortunately ....being nice wont work with most people. The way things are now days you have to let people know, right off the bat , that if they put up stands on your property, they will lose them. Trust me.... if you pussy foot around, and try to be nice, they will keep playing games. Take it down and then talk to them....I have been through this too many times...
  9. But if there were no guns then there would be no guns to be stolen. Theses poor criminals would not be tempted and we would all live in harmony.
  10. So they should have ordered you and your friends to stay put, chased the other guys and made you wait until that whole deal was over???? I think you would have bitched about that too. Just a hunch. IMHO if you get caught you get caught. Just think of all the times you didn't get caught. ....... Ball up
  11. Don't tie a knot. For my bow anyway, I use nylon decoy line. Tie spring loaded "C" clips ( like the ones used on the end of a dog leash) on each end of the line and shrink the knot with a flame. You will never have a problem.
  12. Yeah...Thats all you can do. Find spots along the property where you know they will most likely push deer. Set up first thing in the a.m. and wait. If these guys are pushing through your "sanctuary" areas then its no use trying to develop such areas. Hunt them during bow before these guys show up. It's tough....good luck.

    buck rut

Thanksgiving morning around 10, I had to run out to the store. On the way back I stopped by a friends house, who lives next to the farm I hunt. While we were standing in his driveway, talking, a six point chased a doe right by us and across a field. He was right on her.
  14. No offense but your nuts if you don't turn him in. I would have called the DEC/Police while he was out there with a gun. Tell them he is shooting near your house and kids. They'll get there fast.
  15. Funny!!! I remember as a kid 10 or 12 years old. We took the family summer trip to a camp in Maine. It was our 4th or 5th year in a row going there. Me and my little brother were fishing on the dock (catching pan fish like ya read about). My Zebco 202 got the line all tangled up, so my old man, who didn't fish, walked down, about 6 Genny's into it, and a Pal-Mal hanging out of his mouth. He fixed my reel and gave it one cast to show me that it worked. All the sudden a game warden comes from around this little cove, in a small motor boat. He had obviously been watching us. He docks up and writes the old man a ticket for fishing without a license.$35.00 Circa 1976 was a lot of money. My father lights into the guy and I thought it was go time. Things calmed down and the warden went on his way. I remember later that day, my father now about 9 Genny's into it saying to us " hope you liked Maine cuz I aint pay'n that fine and we aint comm'n back" and we never did. LOL!!!
  16. If your basement is dry, like you say, put them there, close to the furnace. Thats where mine are. I keep a couple of those "silica gel" boxes in the bottom of the gun locker, for good measure. I have never had a problem. The silica gel boxes absorb moisture. Gander has them for about 10-15 bucks. They also have small moisture control units that run on batteries but they cost more. Plus ... you can recharge the gel boxes by just putting them in the oven, although I have never had to. Good luck.

    deer lure

Go for it. Even if it lost it's "sex appeal" it wont spook anything.
  18. Years ago friends and I hunted Hinkley Resivoure State Land, just outside of Utica. We had some decent luck there. My one buddy took two wall hangers out of there and one big black bear. This was back in the mid to late 90's but Im sure it's still pretty good.
  19. He's had that deer waaaay too long. I would pass. The guy i use does real high volume but he hires plenty of help, has a big walk in cooler and huge freezers. When you bring in your deer he staples the numbered top of your order form to the deers ear so you get your meat back. If he gives you crap tell him you got sick of waiting so you spent the money, you were going to pay him, on some bologna and cheese then tell him to piss off!!
  20. Get out!! I went out this morning and the same thing happened to me. I lasted about 40mins. and thinking about it, that was 40mins too long. I got down and moved to a ground blind under a small apple tree. When its real windy out, not only do you have to worry about your stand swaying all over the place but you also have to worry about stuff coming down from above you.
  21. This past week we were down at camp and the land owner finished off a buck with his old...old Savage .32 auto pistol. They do come in handy.
