    Your gun is 100% legal. But remember….A semi automatic shotgun, with a pistol grip stock is legal but the same shotgun with a thumb hole stock is an "assault weapon"…Because thats "sensible" LOL!!!

    Awesome fish. I got one just a hair over 20", years ago, out of Oneida Lake. My buddy said I was nuts for releasing it..but what ever. 22" is a great fish…Congrats!!!!

    One of my long time hunting buddies has used a 35 Rem. for years, and inside of 100 yards (Which is where he shoots) the deer don't go anywhere. He shot a real nice, big 7 Pt last year at like 60 yards and the thing just piled right up. I shot a buck years ago with a 35 Rem. and got the same results. Talked to an old timer last season who hunts with the 35 Whelen. He and his brother have been using the round for years and he described it as a "one shot deer killer"……..

    Sautee'd hind steaks in butter & garlic, farm stand green beans and rice. Not too bad…... I also trimmed up a bunch of venison to make jerky with and gave the dog all the trimmings……..He loves me right now. …LOL!!

    Pouring out and windy in 7F too. I sat out this morning. Haven't been out since Wed. It started raining at about 830 and I was soaked through by 930. Im getting psyched for Halloween. Thats when the action really starts to pick up for me.

    I just bought the same rifle and sighted it in the other day. I used the Power Belt Aero tip 300grian, with 2 50grn pyrodex pellets. They flew OK but not great. Im actually looking for something better.

    Im all about blued steel and wood stocks…But I'm getting old. I have some synthetics, but my go to's are all most always wood and blued.,,Look for an older Remmy 700, Ruger M77 or a Winchester 70. They're out there.

    Glad you're OK.. ..Seems we always think of ourselves as kids.. We can't do what we use to. I have stopped dragging deer more than a short way, and I don't climb as high any more. Messed up knees, back, shoulders and just plain getting old. Fortunately, for me anyway, the guys I stared out hunting with, when we were kids, now have kids who do the grunt work for us. LOL!! You're not alone my friend !!!! LOL!

    I have seen quite a few deer taken with the 223. The farmer, who's land I hunt in Allegheny County, kills bucks every year with his H&R single shot 223. And he uses the cheapest ammo he can find. He nailed a nice 8 pt. that was sniffing out a doe, last season. One shot through the ribs in an open field, about 80yds. The buck went maybe 30 yds and piled up. I don't have the ball$$ to try it tho..

    I have always used a medium sized fanny pack, that has a few side compartments. Between that and my pockets , It has always worked fine. Even for all day hunts.

    Awesome old rifle. Im sure the 30-40 is a great deer round. Good luck with it this season...
