  1. Well our other hunting partner tagged out this morning. Time to shoot some does. Some nice deer in this thread. Congrats to all!

Congrats. Nice buck and way to improvise. Good strings should not twist. Old strings may start to stretch. I have had good experiences with 60x strings.
  3. Score is irrelevant. That's an awesome buck. Look at the mass on those main beams. Love it. I like him better than many bucks I have seen that would score higher. Congrats. That buck just looks like a bully.
  4. Those are upper end appliances too. I bought my washing machine and dryer used and they have faired better than the "quality" new appliances in my kitchen. My grandfathers fridge is still kicking 30yrs old.
  5. If he makes you happy, I hope he returns when you are in the stand. That's all that matters.
  6. There is an article in the current QDMA magazine about things to consider when purchasing hunting property. It's covers the basics pretty well. Worth a read if you have it
  7. So back on topic, it was very slow this morning. Washing hunting gear and watching movies the rest of the day. Yesterday we hung a hangon six feet above my buddies ladder stand. First time tried filming. He called a buck in. Not one he wanted to shoot but it was cool filming him. Hung around stand for a while. If I ever get technically proficient enough to post video, I will post it. Here he is, just a photo of the camera screen:
  8. I wont shoot deer right below me. The kill zone is small and even a dead deer can result in a long tracking job. Much easier to wait until they move away a bit. Kinda like Larry said, wait and choose.
  9. Good plan. Even if you are nervous and shot isn't perfect, it will be much better than a less than perfect shot at 30. Think angles and how distance from the mark grows exponentially the further out you go. Plus, deer have less time to react. You will get it done, no doubt.
  10. Just said the same thing to a friend. Lower temps, new moon (if you believe in that) and rut will combine to get things rocking.
  11. Core No one likes to hear about wounded lost deer, but it happens. Sounds like first deer you misjudged range and second was just a bad shot. Most hunters are very nervous on game until they get a few under their belt. Some remain nervous even then. Just keep practicing and I would limit my shots to chip shots until you have a few in the freezer. Closing the deal on close shots will give you confidence. I know you are taking heat and might get defensive but hang in there. You are seeing deer and will get an easy 10-20yd shot soon. Also, slow way down when the opportunity comes. Just follow your shot routine and don't worry about the nature of the target or getting a quick shot off. Settle in and take your time. You will have one hanging soon. Good luck.
  12. No, compound for this one. Didn't want to lose the yardage when hunting for a buck. Maybe next year I will finish out with the recurve.
  13. Good luck folks. Gusty here in 8h. Hoping to see a few dandys fall today.
  14. Thx Grampy. Been a really good season so far. Seeing a few friends tag out and a hunter get his first deer would or will be icing on the cake.
  15. Thanks belo. Not what I would call a stud but good representative 3 yr old. Lacks width. Not complaining. It was an exciting hunt and I would shoot him again under the same conditions
  16. And the other reason to use tarps. Easy clean up.
  17. Lots of new scrapes opening and some chasing and sparing in 8h
  18. Hey now, I didn't get a chance to shower and do my makeup this morning. I clean up real purrttttyyy
  19. Back at it again with a hunter hoping to kill his first deer. Fingers crossed
  20. You're right Larry. Thanks for the tip. I had 4 bucks come by this morning and 2 were pretty decent. 2 little guys sparing too.
