  1. Makes sense. Hunting local has made me lazy I guess.
  2. looks good grow. my wife will tolerate mounts but no skulls. lol
  3. I give you credit for sitting dark to dark after the guns go off. I could never do it at this time of the year, but have received cell cam photos making me wish I had. lol
  4. So typically I am very careful about cleaning all venison during butchering to remove all fat, silver skin and connective tissue. I tend to have smaller yields, but no one ever complains that the venison tastes gamey. For this reason, I generally just toss the neck as its way too much work to remove all of the connective tissue. What a mistake. Yesterday I decided to try a neck roast from the deer I shot on Friday. I basically just removed the slab of meat/etc. around the vertebrae. It was marbled with lots of stuff that I figured would kill the taste, but I gave it a shot. Threw the meat in a crock pot with cream of mushroom soup, onion soup, celery, mushrooms and a little water. Let it cook for 9 hours. It was absolutely delicious. The meat was falling apart tender and it had no gamey taste whatsoever. I was shocked and a bit upset that I wasted the neck on the last four deer this year. Never again. Neck stew is now one of my favorites. Over some mashed potatoes, it can't be beat. Give it a try or, if you prefer, send me the neck.
  5. great season Law. Congrats
  6. yikes. u pay a grand/yr to park at a mall? that would be about $500 per visit based on my mall frequency. lol
  7. I like to grab the front legs with one hand and the back legs with the other and then use a spinning throwing motion like a hammer or shot put. Much more easily done if you kill small deer or "suit case" deer as one friend calls them. Watch out for antlers as you start the spin.
  8. I buy them all so I don't pay attention, but I am pretty sure if you buy only bow, it includes late season for bow too. Then ML is a separate late season privilege.
  9. I am not 100% sure on that Shawn. I thought Bow privileges included both early and late season and then MZ is only late season and a separate cost.
  10. Yep - even if you buy bow, ML costs an extra $10, despite that they are the same time here in 8H.
  11. I think the pedestals generally show the shoulder from the side or angled where a wall mount looks the buck is coming out of your wall. Trying to decide between revolution curious alert and McKenzie upright aggressive for my bow buck. I like some turn to the neck as I think they look more natural, but that buck was looking for a fight and upright aggressive is how I remember him.
  12. Its OK to mock me, and even more so Phade for starting this thread, but please leave my truck out of it. It is very sensitive.
  13. I can state without hesitation - maybe. Have seen non-lethal hit bucks return (quicker than I thought) and stay away (although spotted not in the same area).
  14. I will stop deer before shooting with a bow. Its usually a soft meh, when I am already drawn and ready to shoot (don't want extra movement once I alert the deer). Once the deer stops at the sound, I confirm that I am settled where I want and release. I have never released at a moving deer with a bow.
  15. i havent tried a syderco yet. its on the list though. i will have to confer with you before my next purchase. lol i really like the conveience of the axis lock on two benchmades i have. And the bushcrafter is flat out, the nicest fixed blade i have ever handled. btw- i too use some "lesser" mora knives for field dressing and butchering. they are great knives for $20.
  16. i recall that you like your benchmades too. after buying knives made of s30v, i have become a bit of a knife snob. resists corrosion, can be made razor sharp and holds an edge forever. whats not to like. the only downside is sharpening when dull because its a hard stainless. but if you just touch it up occassionaly, it stays razor sharp.
  17. no idea why that copied Jeremy's post
  18. bringing my 6 year old girl out again. 2 years in a row starts a tradition. my son gets opening day and she has thanksgiving morning. doubt she will make it much past 8:30. hope the deer move early. good luck to all
  19. I know you are kidding, but you will definitely cherish the memories of hunting with him more than any deer you may take alone.
  20. I use the Winchester power max dual bonded in 130g. Shoots well from my sako.
  21. Depends on conditions. This year was the first time my son was in a double with me. I planned to shoot if a doe came by just for the experience for him and an unlucky doe did come by. First time I have shot a doe opening day. Usually I wait for a buck that never shows. lol
