I find for this area of country that the last week of Oct seems to be the start of the chase. The bucks are ready but the doe's are not so the bucks are looking day and night to find the first doe that ready to breed. I start using doe in rut at that time, and also use fox to kill off my man scent. Also as I being a old fart of 75, no longer go in tree stands and must use natural blinds I make in the woods. Hunting on the ground is a lot harder for hunting deer with the bow. I hope this helps you.

I live near the town of Franklin NY can you give me suggested areas for the best bass fishing ? I do not have a boat, will have to fish from shore or use waders. MY thanks Bill

Doc I m like you went from the corp world to retirement and never looked back. Started my own little archery shop and had it running for about 12 years, then wife asked me to close down so we did not have all the traffic at odd hours at the house. Now it still is a great place to live, have my own 32 target 3D course setup on 5 acres of land. Have one or two buddies that I shoot weekly with. Love to fish in the local ponds. Life is good for me at 75. Most of all still the best wife in the world who put up with this old fool. Great kids and now grand kids.

nothing like wet snow most all day. It did melt on the grass. But you sure are right, not any turkey talking out there.

How much for the yearly fee ????

go to a good archery shop and get measured for draw length, then try out several brands of compound bows, you will know the right one as it will just feel good in your hand. Also do not get over bowed ( to heavy a peak draw weight ) you can take down all US deer with as little as 40 lbs bow weight, you do not need a bow setup for 70 lbs peak draw weight. I now have mine setup for just 55 lbs, can shoot 3D's all day long with out being over tired.

you put a new nock on to get the proper placement. If you have a vane with a nick in the edge, you replace the vane.

Pigs can be a real issue, ask the Myrtle beach SC bow club , if they are pushing out the deer and turkey. They breed several times a year, have a 6+ each time. They do cause a lot of damage to the local farmers as well. Should be a open season all year, but they again manage by having the season in the same time as deer hunting, so then the pigs go just out in the night hours.... -
At 74 I find the best way is to shoot a few arrows each day. I shoot from 15 yards out to 35 yards. I shoot 3 arrows at each mark and then walk and pull. I find that seems to keep me, so I am ready for the hunting season. I also 2 times a week shoot a 3D range I have set up around a pasture, that has 32 3D targets set up that are deer 26, turkey 2, bear 3, and a cougar on a tree branch.

I saw yesterday a down state discussion on what should be how much ammo you as a hunter can buy at one time, the suggestion from LI law maker was in a one month period you should not be allowed to purchase more than two clips of any ammo. These guys have no hunting knowledge, can you see going into a store and asking them to break down a box of shot gun bullets from the 25 in a box to 10 bullets. Or a box of 20 308 cal rifle bullets to 10 for my Remington rifle. I can see if you are buying 1000 rounds at a time, maybe the local police should be made aware to check you out to see if you are planning to start WWIII, or are you buying for a hunting club . What do you think..

as we get old these things do occur. At 74 I sure misplace things such as the wife, bills, kids, and grandkids. But not the key things like car, guns and my trusty compound bows or stick bows. Can think back to were I shot that first deer and who I was with. It seems just like yesterday. But were did I put those keys for the master lock on the tree stand...???? it is a great day if you still see and say green side up. You look out and can still see the grass is green. My wife got me a cheap cell phone to take in the woods with me to call 911 if I fell or had to call the son in law to drag out a buck. Now that when it hit me that old fart shaving was me. so have a great day and green side up....
