    5 for 5

What a great start to the season.been out 5x saw deer every time. From a low of 2 to 13! Last night 3 bucks and some does, same stand this AM I see some doe way off in the beans the wide buck I got on cam by the stand I'm in. So I grab the binos and look his way but what is this I'm seeing ? A bunch of branches? Nope a giant rack in front of the wide buck,a few omg's Holy ....later I realize I'm looking at what could be the biggest rack I ve ever seen while hunting. There was a 3 rd younger buck with them as well. This was at 7 45 , the small buck and the biggest stayed eating beans and I think bedded for a bit till 10 30 ,when they wandered off out of sight. Having them on their feet and 150 yards from me, I sat till 12 00 . Nada. Next time a stand is going up over that a ways. I'm pretty sure it's the same one I saw 3 x last year in that field, jumped him once out of the hedgerow he was by today. What a morning.
  5. Earnest Hemingway said that there were only 3 sports mountain climbing, auto racing and bull fighting . All the rest are merely games.

    Deer and Cows

The farm I hunt got rid of their cows a few years back.however I have maybe 20years hunting parts of it that had cows. The little creek bed we called it, the cows wandered all over it and some of the best bucks I've seen there were in that cow pasture/ creek bottom .
  7. Got in stand 5 ish 3 young bucks passed by before 6 . Nice fat doe in beans to far for most of my sit. Here's on of the young guys. My first morning hunt of the year tomorrow.
  8. Time put in and the number of deer where you hunt are 2 of the biggest factor IMHO. In your first 3 years you killed 2 and one with a bow! That's pretty darn good. Most of what I learned came from time spent in the field. Deer movement during deer season is key to where my stands go.
  9. I'm liking ladders more and more. I have 4 up 3 hang ons and my climber ( lone wolf) gets used the least. I carry in a 15 foot ladder all put together on my shoulder easy to foot and lean against tree. I wish they would come up with a system that locked it on from the ground! Maybe something spring loaded that could be set by pulling a rope from the ground. Nybuck 50 glad you came out ok.
  10. Ya I got pics and videos that are true jaw dropping holy crap pics. Most from friends who hunt not far from me,a few from my spot. Those guys would face punch me if I posted them. Most make me see them in person, a few will send SOME pics.if I swear not to show anyone. Is not hard to read some guys posts and figure out just where they hunt. Some even post arial pics. with roads on them to make it even easier.
  11. That's the funniest thing I read here in awhile. Thanks!Ok no scopes, gore tex, camo, tree stands ? well know way can a real hunter use one of those. Look only real way to hunt is naked on the ground with a spear.
  12. Thanks, good luck to you as well. I'll be out tue afternoon and both ends of wed. Work days thur,fi,sat.
  13. I am so pumped Ontario went rifle. This is typical of my hunting spots.
  14. A correctly tuned bow will shoot field points and broad heads the same. I have used nothing but fixed blades for 25 years ,last 15 or 20 cut on contacts. Never had to adjust anything when shooting BH. Good luck.

    ACORNS

Well , tons of them dropping in my hardwoods, the deer however are eating in the bean and cut corn fields.......
  16. I went with the .270 myself. After about 40 years of shooting slugs put of a 12 ga pump, I say recoil ? What recoil ?
  17. I wish you the best of luck.i have taken new hunters before, but you're quite a ways away. I also hunt mostly week days. Can you check around campus for outdoor clubs? may hold some hunters. I'd think that would be your best bet.
  18. Congrats ! My wife says I'm number 1 though ,she even holds up a finger!

  20. Hey some old guys know what a selfie is...
  21. 2 hours on hardwood acorns dropping all around like quarters in the slot machine at the res. Zero deer, loosing light, head out into the cut corn to walk out 1,2, 5 no 7 opps 2 more oh there's another 3 no 4 more. 13 deer in 100 yard space in cut corn. Be out again tues and wed.
  22. No smart phone, so live from the family room ! Rained most of the day and tomorrow as well ,seems like a good time to hit the stand,Except for the heat and humidity ..... Off i go.
  23. I would hope people would be suspicious . Isn't this what we teach our kids about people on the Internet ? Hey he says he's an 18 year old boy who wants to meet you at the mall but he could be a 45 yo sexual offender. Hey there is Prince in the Middle East who wants to give me 1 million bucks, no,really he sent me an email. Does that seem so odd that people would expect, " hi I'm Jim Smith, I'm a film maker 4 years out of xyz school where I majored in filmmaking, I'd like to,do a documentary on hunting. Here's my web site/ you tube channel where you can see my past work" Who would get involved with someone after one post with out this info?
  24. It would go a long way if you posted links to past work. In order to " show one the ropes" we would have had to started months ago, as most of the work is put in before the season . It's kinda like saying your doing a documentary on courtship rituals , but only want to film the wedding reception . We know you're just going to get drunk and hit on the chubby bridesmaid....... That said if it stops thundering,I'm heading out this afternoon. Meet me by the corn field........
  25. I ve been bow hunting 25 years , and I ask myself those same questions each year..... For me its a matter of putting the time in,hunting the wind, learning from my mistakes, and seeing what's happening during hunting hours. You may not want to try to shoot them in the open, but a spot with cover before or after the clearing.
