Ha I had you for the first week , but you got bumped . You do to much school and sports stuff to pin down . I was then going to pick hoc3y24 but he’s going to PA the first week . I’ll say this the first couple weeks, I’m camping 2x and going to Old Forge for 3 days. It’s easy to pick guys for Nov 1 - first week of gun , the early days are harder . Out of likes…. Last night as our kids and us exchanged pictures and videos , it became totally clear that it’s the right call . He was a running machine an absolute nut , and comparing him to those the differences are stark . I almost feel like putting a sign up out front half the neighborhood would always stop to see him , and since he’s not out much anymore some stop and ask , “ hey is Gus ok ? “ they never ask about me though ……

Not much here in Monroe county . Two more camping trips and a run up to Old Forge the second week of Oct which should be good I hope !

The vet comes to the house Monday ,then Gus moves on . Here’s a few pics, a deer he recovered for me , a rock wall with a mouse in it that he spent an hour moving rocks with his snout to get it . When I was outside he’d stand on his hind legs and stare out the door till I let him out too , when I’d come home in camo he’d loose his sh!t and come running smelling the truck for deer . He has many issues , I’ve slept on the couch for two years , so I could let him out 2-3 times each night . It’s time , this week end he gets the last tenderloin ,man he loves venison !

“ high fence “ is such a varied term . I have a friend who trained for months walking stairs and hills with a weighted backpack , for a HF hunt out West. They fenced in 10s of thousands of acres , and he walked mountains for days upon days never seeing a fence , finally getting one on his last day . Then my one nephew when he’s in Texas on business and has a free afternoon , will drop 10k to sit in an elevated , well cabin almost and shoot a buck when it comes to a feeder. Don’t see why I should care with either . Both are very successful bow and gun hunters in the traditional sense as well , but they have the cake to do both if they wish .

I’m slowly easing into getting up early , today I got out of bed at 7:45 ! Some of my neighbors were already outside walking and driving by in cars , freaks . Ill probably need two naps today .

Bought some 9mm HP ( Gold Dots ) , .223 and 300 BLK today , the later were at almost online prices which was a bit of a surprise , GD were way cheaper . Some random thoughts and observations. It was crowded more so then I’ve ever seen . Comments from staff to questions i did not hear ,” expect another 24 months “ then ,” hunting ammo is just starting to come in “, and “everyone is still buying .”

They’re saying Christmas shop now as they can’t get product here in a timely manor idk . But I will say I ordered a safe for my daughters house ( Secure It brand , I’m a fan of decentralized storage ) it was due to arrive last Sunday. Now they say it’s sitting on a truck at a Fed Ex hub in Texas, backlog of workers . I also sent for hardware to reinforce her doors and jams , delayed . Theres what 80 container ships sitting outside the docks in LA and more coming daily . I think I’ll go buy more ammo today .

I’m not sure of today’s date or when OD of bow is, I know it’s close . I’ve got a lot to do by mid Oct.The next couple days I want to put boat away, close the pool, after that camp a couple more times, oldest daughter has a week off her fiancé doesn’t and wants us to go up to the ADK , early Oct as well . Ive pulled my cameras, I don’t scout , and last time I was there, they were cutting crops already , I suppose if it’s dry out I’ll sit the AM, I want a doe early to can , but it doesn’t even feel like “ hunting “ yet , so who knows . Oh and my left knee hurts and makes walking an issue from time to time .
