70 yards is not going to make much of a difference, the shakes when you see the big one will.

.358 Win. for me 220 grain, will Knock the deer down and will take care of any Bear walking too close.

Get a plastic bag, fill it with dry leaves and put your stuff in that.

For years we hunted one area in Ridge on state land,we would fill our bags every time out. Then they started building houses like crazy on the island,a lot of the people would get a young puppy that would start messing up the house, get POed and drop the dogs off in the woods, they became wild and started killing every thing they could to survive so there went the rabbit hunting.Glad to see it has built back up again.

I leave my blind up all year in the same spot,Outhouse with junky fiberglass tubes that broke under the heavy snow last year.I took and cut down some metal poles and brackets from a old screen room, holding up just fine.Over the weekend while eating breakfast I was watching 5 deer come out from there bedding area to eat some apples fallen from the tree. The snow was dropping off of the tree limbs and they were very spooky,The eat a few apples and went right back to there bedding area. They do not like to be in the woods when things are falling on them. Can't blame them.

When I first joined Deer Search,I went out with Lee a few times on calls she got from hunters, hunting out of the Ridge check station. All were the morning after a deer was shot, sometime it snowed or rained that night .If the hunter showed us were the deer was shot and if they were smart enough to mark the last spot of a blood trail or where the deer was last seen. The dog or dogs would pick up the sent.

The weather has been changing a lot, periods of rain, then hot and sunny, cold nights warm days.the deer sense the changes and look for better food source as said above to keep going during the lousy weather..

Cotton in the summer and Wool in the fall and winter.I have had every type of material in clothing threw the years and some were pretty pricey.Wool seems to keep me the driest and warmest in the fall and winter.Fleece and polyester do not cut it.That skin tight under garments stink after any amount of walking. The only new type of material that is used for under garments that keeps me warm and dry is polyproplyne .As used for years in Helly Hanson and Cabales under garments.

I agree the same as camo clothes for deer hunting, when we started deer hunting many years ago we wore woolrich red and black plad or orange head to toe.We got our bucks and does every year ( at that time party permits) for the does.We wore the same clothes small game hunting and always filled our bags.

Here we go again, most of the roads are closed by me and the stream that goes past my house is higher then is was from Irene. We will see what happens over night.

Do not use rubbing alcohol or the ones sold for cleaning nail polish it has oil in it.Go to the hardware store in the paint section and get 100% alcohol.Wipe both the shafts and the bottom of the vains.I never had a problem using fletchtite.

I have had a number of different threw the years, bordered by grass, railroad ties, blue stone and flower beds. The best one which I now have is sitting on all the stones I york raked before seeding my lawn then topped with crushes stone, raised above the ground around it.Has been there for the past 5 years,no sign of water damage and weed free.I just planted some winter hardy rose bushes on one side.

We did it for years in a pop up camper with a built in heater. We kept the water in our truck at night and in the camper when we needed it,never had a problem with it freezing.Thoes were the good old days.

If this is going to be a rifle you intend on keeping for your whole hunting lifetime I would suggest looking at the above mentioned 3 companies better rifles as the Browning A Bolt Medalion,Rimingtion 700 BDL,and Savage better grade of rifles.do some research you will find they are a better quality firearm then the cheepies. The shot gun I would go for the Rem. 870.You are going to see many so called sales and bargians for the next few months. The 30-06 is a good all around caliber you can get anywhere from 110 grain to 220 grain factory loaded ammo. The 870 you can get a very good selections of barrles for it.

I have one that shows up every year just before the rut, have seen him grow from a button buck,spike,4 to 6 to an eight always in the same spot every year then he dissapears for another year.last year he was a 10 pointer,if he made it for another year more power to him.Just the satisfaction to see that he is smart enough to elude the other hunters gives me joy.I have had many 20 yard shots at him with both bow and gun.Just want st see if he makes it another year. And increase the depleating heard.

I did not read the whole thread ,these are just me observations for the last 6 years on my property in area 4P,And I do have small food plots spread through my property, 6 years ago at least 6 to 10 does various ages walking on or threw the property +1 to 2 bucks hanging around,That year a lot of doe permits were handed out and a lot of deer were shot including what must have been the great grandmother of all the deer in the area one of the largest does I have ever seen around here.5 to 3 years the numbers declined to about 6 does and 1 buck.2 years ago was a good year for bucks I had 4 that stayed on the property until the rut.Last year a good number of doe permits have been given out and there weer many hunters in the area and a lot of deer were shot bucks and does. This year all I am seeing,During the entire winter 2 does a little over a year old and 1 young one each,This spring and summer 1 of the older does with a one just born, and here young one from last year. And not 1 buck yet this year.I think the should go to 1 Buck per year, per Hunter and back to the way it was years ago with 2 to 3 people on a party permit for does. And I do have farm land around me,so it is not that the deer are starving to death.
