  1. Man I'm so consumed with preparation that my wife is getting annoyed with me. I think about it on my way to work, at work, on my way home from work and all evening long and go to bed thinking about it. I can't help it!!
  2. Did u hear back? I found what your saying multiple times during gun season and also today. looks like old blood in the snow.
  3. I feel like im the gift that keeps on giving, isn't that enough?
  4. I have a lot on my list. 1) clear out a 2-3 acre clearing for a food plot 2) Expand and enhance their current bedding area to 8-10 acres. 3) Clear out competing trees around our oaks. They play such an important roll in our food source where our land is. 4) Try and revitalize the existing patch of thorn apple trees. 5) Fix up the cabin and try to mouse proof it (damn things)!! 6) Dig some culverts around some of our trails that were a sopping mess this past weekend. And grow im with you, im looking to build maybe an 8x8 enclosed stand. Equipped with bunk beds, some type of heat. I wanna take my son (will be 7 next yr) hunting with me more and i thought it would be cool to get in the night before spend the night and wake up hunting!! I gotta figure out a bathroom system though. Will see
  5. Id let out a cloud cough while shooting!!
  6. Our new spot has been fantastic, I saw at least one buck every hunt from the beginning of bow thru opening weekend of gun. An if I had a little more patience a couple weeks back id be $450 in debt to the taxidermist.
  7. I just got an est for dozer work 115hr (same area as u)
  8. Good call, im 8 chapters deep in his book as we speak + countless other research. I could read this stuff all day.
  9. Thanks TM, What i would say in my experience is just keep trying to take steps. I've seemed to take the position of let the small bucks go and try for the bigger bucks and take does for meat. Ive always been throwing out ideas and why we should be doing them and pointing out weak areas on the land. Finally i got him to help clear out less the a half acre for a small plot 5yrs ago and i think he started to enjoy it. Then came the tsi which we completed pretty fast. I also have a brother who wouldn't change a thing with the land and wonder why he isn't seeing anything. It should be an awesome time.
  10. Thanks for the dozer tip. Since will use them for firewood I thought it would be the easies to cut and remove and leave a few feet for the dozer to grab no? My bro works out of state at an engineering firm and was able to make them up. I bet if u hit up some type of survey business or maybe certain const companies u might be in luck.
  11. There are 2 water sources. One natural spring that would divide the bedding area and the food plot. Im just working on design of the plot for the best hunting setup with the wind and best way to access. This map really helps you see everything a lot better.
  12. I just also scored a large aerial map of part of the property where will be install the plot This really gives me a much better view then going to google earth. This will really help with the plot design/location. So this map has a 1acre scale in the corner so I traced it to paper and cut out a bunch of 1 acre squares then I place them over one of the existing bedding areas to determine it about 8-9 acres. I'm planning on enhancing it this winter and making it a half a sanc. Half a sanc is my term of part sanctuary. Its off limits except for enhancment and shed hunting/scouting in the spring.
  13. I've been preaching to my dad for years that we need a serious food plot on our 90 acres with no luck. Our piece is all woods and so is everyone surrounding us. There are a couple crp fields. I would probably have to drive a few miles to find a corn field. Well I finally got the go ahead. I think will be looking around 2-3 acres (id do more but this is a big step for my dad). The area im looking at is 2nd growth maple/ash trees all medium to small diameter. So the plan is to cut down the trees for firewood then have the dozer come thru to clear out the stumps. Gosh I hope its easy winter to get a big jump on this by spring. Maybe ill start a journal and post the progress once started.
  14. Are they bedding on your property? That would be my first question. If they are not and you have the acreage start creating some bedding cover. To me it sounds like they might have u patterned and are bedding farther away from the plot.
  15. What time of the night are you getting the pics? If soon after dark you might want to try and locate trails that lead to it and hunt deeper down the trail. If your getting them much later id say they have a cozy spot on a neighbors and just aren't getting to your spot till late. Just my 2 cents for not knowing your property. I don't believe they are being nocturnal, my dad saw a really nice buck around noon Saturday walking across the wide open hardwoods.
  16. who did u purchase the spruce from? Did u plant them in clumps or for more for screening. Do u leave the caps on until they are tall enough not to be browsed?

Ill be in stand most of the day Saturday, ill sneak over to the little cabin back in the woods for lunch wit my brother and dad, then head back out. Hopefully im down a tag or two by lunch!!
  22. sat out just about all day. At 1230 I went to the cabin back in the woods (my dad went and fired up the wood stove) sat in there for 2hrs drying my cloths and went back out till dark. I saw a ton of deer today. Had I had an xbow I could have tagged out. Everything was just out of bow range, prob say 8 different buck.
