i definitely agree. i'm not shooting the World Cup with a field or body of water between me and the target/deer where i might be worrying about burning off energy to fast once the range is stretched. i want those shafts to spin like a fired bullet for stability. some of my setups with rest and brace don't let me run long feathers. i've got plenty of different colored Blazers on hand so that's what i use with the compounds. only when you get away from the turbulent air around the shaft does your vanes or feathers start to work anyway.

looks like access limited to one spot with the road frontage they've got. not a bad thing when it comes to hunting.

he made it all come together and looks like a great shot. congrats to him! i would be too.

Got your opening day spot picked out yet?
dbHunterNY replied to Robhuntandfish's topic in Bow Hunting
i throw all scouting intell aside and hunt the same spot opening weekend to stick with tradition. then it's back to the details. it's all set. -
i use a full max helical (Arizona EZ Fletch Mini)... i want to say it's like 6 degrees. their offset is 4 degrees in offset configuration but they keep the helical angles a secret. it's more than the bohning jig. haven't compared it to various bitz helical jigs.

LMFAO.... OMG! IMHO... no.

i've shot a few yearlings and piles of 2.5 yr old bucks in the past. i'm a manager for a large QDM co-op in WMU 4C that the family farm is part of. We've talked to all those involved and consulted an actual whitetail biologist. Set the guidelines (rules) at 3 pts on each side and 15" spread, which was designed and has been proven for our area to protect a portion of 2.5 year olds and about all the yearlings. it's something cut and dry that everyone can figure out. historically 1 buck is taken for every 300 acres with those standards. any given season that's my minimum standards for a shooter buck. many years my standards are higher and i pass a handful at least that big. last year like Moog I grounded myself and shot a 16" wide 8 pointer smaller than i normally would. i was happy at the time to do so but probably won't drop to the minimum for quite a while. i've been told it sounds complicated but it's really not. it actually lets a lot of us sit back and take it all in with stories to share. i enjoy the outdoors a little before unleashing a hand cannon and having work begin... and going back to work. we're not well off with doe numbers as much as WNY folks but being a QDM and ag country we create enough opportunity to fill some freezers.

it's a deer quartering away hard, looking back. darkness of it's hide is just from the underexposure, depth for the flash to reach, and haziness of the picture.

unbelievable the amount of work that went into increase the poaching fines just a little bit. even more to realize how much lawmakers neutered/lowered it to pass, plus the fact that one conservation group kept trashing the effort. i just hoped that covered all the overhead to make the charges happen.

driving the sleds in the winter you'd have herds of deer in town eating on piles of hay. they didn't have a care in the world.

they all work. cadence and pitch (pressure) are more important to the bird. "better" ones with different wood seem to have deeper and richer tones and are easier to make a more consistent sound i think, if you want to split hairs and be overly critical. i have one that's custom made and another that's cheap off the shelf. My custom one is made with black walnut and sassafras. the cheaper one is cherry. both have called in a lot of birds, back when i turkey hunted more.

now that's doing anything for a sale! I hear Dick's Spotting Goods also has high powered lights on sale i'll have to ask them about that too. man they keep stocked with all the right gear.

seems like a lot... you think Dick's will deliver to my spot?

What Could or Possibly Also May Be in your Hunting Area
dbHunterNY replied to nobody's topic in General Hunting
screw you and your insensitive use of the term "big foot". his name is Harry and he's a nice dude. Ever since he became famous and rolled in all that cash for starring in the movie he did back in the late '80s, everybody's been all up in his business. he's just keeping a lower profile now and just wants to chill in peace. you know nothing about it. -
....anyway can someone tell me how big of a pile i need to put down to make it effective. i'm not sure as it's right next to a 10 acre secluded corn field that'll be left standing into the season?
-
i use them when in the field. i have them for shotgun, pistols, and rifles. i don't use dry but with a little Hoppe's T3 oil. they work well for what they are. not a substitute for cleaning with an actual rod, brush, and patches though. super helpful if someone has a slip and their muzzle ends up in the duff or mud. for hunting parties when hammering rounds at clay birds or patterning loads it's a good enough swab clean.

every area has it's fluctuations in tick populations. some of the best habitat holds lots of deer but the little critters as well that get ticks out of the nymph stage. you can't avoid them, but you can take measures to deal with them. don't cut corners like people usually have a tendency to do and you'll be okay.

good luck Joe! slammed with a lot of life stuff here. besides most of my ground i hunt is just below the zone boundary.

Not like it goes bad if you store it right. I'd like to make it to Tree House down in Mass or head up that way. Life got too busy. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

i don't own any guns... sadly if i did they probably wouldn't be worth anything to sell anyway. hypothetically speaking it'd be really really hard to pick if i did. your first cheap model 500 20ga that your dad got you, to rifles and pistols well over $1-2k each it wouldn't matter they'd all mean something. i did have a daisy lever action carbine air rifle a long time ago but don't know happened to it. -
Been going since last year selectively logging for both firewood and timber. if it's not showing potential to grow straight or a seed tree it's gone. it's woods that hasn't been touched in a life time. small crew run by my 2nd cousin. they'll be there years. the one section is about 90 acres and what you western NYers would call adirondack steep terrain. lol

that's a hike from Phoenix. what are you doing over there when the salmon are running??

Dominican. Last I remember the fridge is stocked with all you can drink beer but the good stuff is at the bars and other places on site. Presidente and presidente light. the regular stuff resembled something decent. Light was horrific, something probably resembling Natty Ice or Light.
