in 2008 i tested just about every new bow available. $ was no object and I still ended up with a GanderMountain TecHunter Elite that was made by Diamond made by Bowtech. haha I have since gave it away to my father in-law to get him into shooting. It was and still is a nice shooting bow. A Mathews fan boy that's his step son in law couldn't stopped raving about it and liked it more than his own Mathews bow.

lol... yea it'll be a fun time i'm sure.

yea i'd make the drive out to you and get one mounted from you if you're willing. definitely cool to see the process. your mounts really do look very clean and well done. like the ear position on this one. seems not so framed and more natural.

south of Albany down to NYC is supposed to be getting hammered. places further north a dusting. thought i was fine but with higher elevation slightly east and not far enough north i got more than enough. no point measuring. just plowing enough to get out and to work. wife took the truck and i was stuck with the car. will measure it when i get home and it's hopefully done.

no shots for me and don't get sick often at all. i'm in my 30's though and haven't ever had anything to comprise my immune system. daughter doesn't go to day care and too young for school. all that helps.

holy hell are you out of touch with reality. haha it's ok though i'd expect no less of a recreational fisherman trolling for comments on a hunting forum.

it's a trade off with risk involved when you pass deer that others might shoot. we've got trail camera photos of bucks progressing through age classes. last year i actually passed bucks as big as i've ever shot. there was enough of them running around though i knew some would make it. some of them did die but others i believe will be walking next year. it's awesome to see and have history with. encounters provide another form of anticipation and success outside putting a tag on the deer. trail cam photos were being sent back and forth between properties this past year out this way. hope you get some more. it's not a good situation banking on a single deer.

we went years ago before the assault weapon craziness with banning them and then change of event management. it was good. stayed to go a couple days at the end. booths with smaller stuff giving crazy deals of basically buy one get one free. a lot of tv personalities there if you wanted to meet and talk to them. new or unknown products too. it was a good time. always thought it'd be good to go back despite i'm not sure if it's quite the same.

good deal. promising knowing there's something out there still calling your place home.

looks to me like he was just grooming himself. hide would be opened up more from say a broadhead.

AR lower receiver, build my 1st AR
dbHunterNY replied to Shawn1878's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
they're almost all owned by the same person. lol American Tactical (Green Island), American Shooters Supply (Colonie), and American Trade Goods (Latham) they probably have lowers, can get more lowers, and can give you enough info on them to make your head implode. Plenty more but those are in and around Albany. -
not sure how quickly you can call it done in the crock pot, especially if frozen. a neck is a neck, but that connective tissue needs time to break down. there has to be others on here. @moog5050? i've cooked it more like 8-10 hours and fridge thawed that way. what we typically do is thaw it out in the fridge, season it, and then sear it in a pan with avacado oil on all sides. we use that oil because it tolerates higher heat. EVO or any other oil works too. seared roast goes into the slow cooker on low for about 8 hours with no extra liquid, cooking down in its own juices with the rub. after that toss it in the fridge over night and then you can pull it apart, discarding anything you don't like easily. use it for anything then; soups, stew, tacos, heated with sauce, caseroles, sammich lol, etc. we've even vaccum packed it in portions. 17 or so lb neck roast is a lot of food, even cooked down. kind of hard to do wrong really.

i've thought about getting a barrel for my prohunter in 22LR but they're not as easy to find now. that's the only single shot i've got. it's like the double barrel shotgun thread.... one can have only so many things to put money into to acquire nice stuff.

i was just reading an article about deer fat. fat does have favor but will go rancid depending on how it's processed. body cavity fat is very hard and doesn't render down easily. waxy fat around muscles renders down easier (lower temp) and is softer to get flavor from. you'll get a waxy coating in your mouth but if you have something acidic to cut it and cleanse your pallet it won't be over powering. if you can render down fat into grease/oil and see what it smells and tastes like while processing if you're not sure. depends on the region/diet the deer has too. that's pretty much what the culinary article said. i do leave some of the muscle fat on there but all the harder stuff and silver skin i remove as much as tediously possible. neck i'll leave it all in there. when cooking low and slow for a long time the silver skin and other tissue in the neck work like a meat tenderizer they say. it's broken down completely by then and not like it would be on say a chop or steak. it's crazy the stuff you learn from actual wild game chefs versus your deer magazine reader recipe cook books, which i have a lot of too. ....i just wish i had their skills to whip up the stuff effortlessly like they do.

i wouldn't get a release right yet either. i don't have any cheaper spare ones to send you. i've given them all away to new bowhunters. just pick a spot to consistently draw back for now like to the corner of your mouth. draw length and other stuff worry about later if you get an actual bow setup. once you're at anchor, where ever it may be, your forearm should be running in parallel or inline with an imaginary arrow from the nock point to the shelf of the bow. it your forearm is lined up nice from the side and from directly behind then you're "form" is good.

Biz... anchor points and release are completely different when shooting fingers versus a mechanical release (which is recommended when shooting a compound). for fingers i generally bring either my top finger tip or nock point to the corner of my mouth (depends on finger placement on the string in relation to nock point). with a mechanical release the nock is slightly lower and farther back than the corner of the mouth. string comes up along the corner of the mouth and depending on the string angle it may touch the tip or nostril of your nose.

2014 Elite Energy 32 Ninja Black
dbHunterNY replied to NYBuckHunter27's topic in Hunting Items For Sale and Trade
i'd be all over this if i was in the market for another bow. when i got my hands on one i found that energy 32's hold all day long. real comfortable at full draw waiting for a deer to take that last couple steps. -
i actually knew of an individual to do this. i thought he was nuts.... and broke. i have a lot but not that kind of "a lot".

Fifth Annual Banquet
dbHunterNY replied to Culvercreek hunt club's topic in Greater Rochester Southern Tier QDMA
No arguing it's at least one of the best banquets there is. I know of another good one out this way. crazy odds at coming home with great guns and gear. there's a reason these banquets sell out. -

We need a HuntingNY get together !

haha... sounds like this party is headed south to biz world. i'm crazy busy throughout the year including deer related stuff. it'd be cool to meet some forum members though. i'm in the albany area but would travel a little ways. -
for a compound you're looking at 21 lbs or less of holding weight. so this thing set at that should be good to practice holding. for straight up drawing and letting down exercise i'd turn it up a little bit. build up weight very slowly over time. i tore something in my shoulder a few years ago. couldn't even move any of my bows to draw them. PT had me using bands that were really light. felt stupid and like they wouldn't do anything until i realized it was working and it's not the same as normal strength training/weight lifting.

crazy amount of character with that set of antlers right?!
