who bleats or does something to stop a walking deer?
dbHunterNY replied to BowmanMike's topic in Bow Hunting
for gun hunting but not for bowhunting. seems to me like they make more of an effort to run to the next mountain over when i did and they saw their demise coming. if i really think i need to it might only be when a buck locked onto a doe and likely won't break stride. -
i've used lightweight gloves from under armour, workwear, and manzella. works well if you get a lighter weight pair and just treat them with water repellent. you buy light weight gloves with gore-tex from a place like bass pro or cabelas they won't be at all cheap. besides bowhunting gloves i typically butcher anyway by cutting off thumb, middle, and index fingers almost to the second joint. rifle season i seem to favor these mittens that flob over to expose your fingers. i think they're a thinsulate blend and plain old grey. seem to get pretty wet on outside but still stay warm.

it's kinda comical when you get a 215 lb dressed out buck and you pull 17lbs of neck roast of of it. it's not bad either! lol

the first couple weeks into gun season and first week before if you have standing corn that's like gold for keeping deer alive if nobody pushes them out of it. i know of some that leave corn for deer and others that don't have room and dryer space and let the ears hang well past ready. latter situation is pretty messed if it's a farmer and the loss isn't something they want or accept but some folks do what they do their way.

Live from the rifle range
dbHunterNY replied to Robhuntandfish's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
Cold, wet, and miserable this evening. Had an hour before sunset so I headed to the range with my browning 30-06 to check it for first time this year. Also brought the new 7mm-08 browning I picked up from form member billdogge. Saturday had a gathering and quickly got it dialed in to 200 with 3 shots reduced recoil stuff quickly so a new hunter I'm mentoring could get some trigger time. figured I'd check it too. 7-08: first 2 touched. Then rang some prehung steel out there in 100 yard increments. Came back and took last two rounds of the box back on paper. Drifted an inch but still touched. 30-06: in the bullseye to start a touch left. Did some test groups with different ammo including 178gr eldx. Everything new was MOA and nothing better but good to go. Take away... 7-08 seems real accurate. Still need to keep working toward getting into reloading for this 30-06 to get better. Vooresville and Delmar arent far apart. It got taken in southwest Albany county. That's all people are going to get. Lol I know who's mounting it but not the hunter. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

texted back. legit and being mounted up in granville.

the official hamlet of Delmar is north of Rt32 which would be all in WMU 4J which is bow only. some people still consider parts a little south in 4B to be considered Delmar though. i'm pretty sure it's legit. sent a text to confirm. big bucks there due to lack of access to private land. "the Delmar buck" decades ago got poached and scored over 200". DEC brings it to different events despite it needs to be remounted. lol

First officially confirmed Coyote sighting by DEC on Long Island
dbHunterNY replied to JimmyDaSavage's topic in Region 1
why they wouldn't allow yote hunting is beyond me. is there a law banning it? otherwise DEC should just strong arm the need. all discharge setback distances, weapons restrictions, etc. all would still apply. -
Hunters Feeding the Hungry
dbHunterNY replied to dbHunterNY's topic in Upper Hudson Valley Branch QDMA
Haha... seems tragic I know. At the same time I understand it makes it so people won't pick and choose what they take. It's all the same if you need it. -
First Light Solitude
dbHunterNY replied to Fletch's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
i don't have this one but after going to a jacket for late season with the safety harness slot idk how you make a jacket without it. -
Many of you have seen Culver's QDMA involved post for the Vension Donation Coalition. Our Upper Hudson River Valley QDMA also donates to that. However, with a severe lack of processors around here being a part of that program to drop your deer off with it's become very difficult to plug it. For those in the Rensselaer and Washington county area I'm posting this to give you another option. The Agricultural Stewardship Association runs a "Hunters Helping the Hungry" program here too. They'll be involved with any processor. Same constraints of it all being turned into burger. Our branch is supporting them as well in efforts to keep our non-profit raised money helping local folks. See photos.

it'd be fun but it's apples to oranges. it's ohio and not here. still it'd be fun. -

groups of guys from where i live are out in Ohio right now. they're stacking bucks like cord wood. 24" spread, 170+", over 10 points, etc. you name your big buck poison and they shot it. making it real hard to stay here in Northeastern NY each year to hunt. lol -
saw this else where on social media. it'll be cool to see what route he and you pick with that hole. either way it'd be cool. i'd almost keep a scare like mark if it were me.
-
not the same deer it looks like to me. my guess is the top is 2.5 and the bottom is 3.5 yrs old.
-
breaking a beam like that is impressive. 5.5+ yr old bucks pound for pound are machines.
-
nice!
-
could be. for around here it's likely 4.5+ not 3.5 yrs old. if somewhere else then it might be different.

which one do you think you can shoot betterin a hunting situation? if you don't know, just guess.
