  1. Congrats to him! Did they shoot the hat for him?
  2. Pattern the gun with several different types of ammo. Some loads pattern tighter than others. You may not need another choke. If you do try a tighter choke, again try different and ammo and see which is best. Extended or flush, your choice.
  3. The annual population explosion of potholes. And there seems to be a bumper crop of them this year!
  4. I believe it was Stalin who said something like "If we erase the past we can determine the future".
  5. Congrats to your son and yourself. I know the feeling. A scout doesn't make Eagle without support of his family and friends. It says a lot to his drive and character. Every scout who makes Eagle has an air of confidence and accomplishment that will follow them through the rest of their life!
  6. Feel proud! I've been through it 4 times with the family (2 daughters - USAF, 1 daughter - Army, 1 son - Army). Was proud of each. The Service makes them a person you would never think they would be. Thank you and your son!
  7. Sounds great, but I am sure the cows would make short work of anything I planted!!!
  8. It won't hurt to check in. A year is a short time for some work, but he should have an answer as to where things stand by now. If you ever worked in the taxidermy business you would have a better understanding of how things go. Some folks used to call asking how much longer their mounts were going take after just a month or two. As was said earlier, good work takes time. That is usually because good work is in high demand and lots of people will be using that taxidermist.
  9. -9 at 7 a.m. here on the Chautauqua Ridge this morning.
  10. Got about 16" here on the Chautauqua Ridge, plus some blowing and drifting. Took about 2 hours to do the driveways and back to the pasture gate. Snowblower on the tractor is a life saver up here.
  11. Bull riding is great to watch, as long as it is not your son on the back of the bull! I was glad when my son called it quits. I think my heart stopped beating for eight seconds every time the chute opened for him!
  12. All the above is fine, but if you are just starting out, get a couple of manuals. If using Nosler bullets get their manual plus one or two others, just for comparison. Keep it simple to start with. Once you are loading good ammo and want to get into cloverleafing your groups, then worry about Quickload and chronographs and everything else. Don't rely on youtube for info. There are a lot of wannabe experts that give pretty shaky info. Some are good, some are just plain scary! If you can, find somebody who loads that you trust is serious about it. Most experienced loaders will be more than glad to help get you started in the right direction. Never rely on loading data that somebody posts or gives you. Compare it to PUBLISHED loads first. And don't rush. Take your time and do it right. As you get more experience you will find it gets to be an addiction. You will end up with many cans of powder that have only a few shells loaded out of it because it just doesn't work for you. Same with bullets. Some will give you the performance you want, other will be better suited as fishing weights. And remember, what does well for others may be terrible for your specific gun. And don't get discouraged. I have loaded for one specific gun that seemed like nothing would perform well. Then you try a different powder or bullet or bullet weight and bingo, it is a tack pounder. Good luck in your new addiction!!!
  13. No wonder it isn't working for me, I thought it was eat for 16 and fast for 8!
  14. I remember them too! I was just happy as a pig in mud when I got my first hard drive, a whopping 40M. I could never fill a drive that large! Now it wouldn't even hold todays programs.
  15. I hate 10 also. I guess when you started out with 3.0 it was a big change to the tiles with 10 when you have used icons for decades. I guess I am just showing my age, can't teach an old dog new tricks!!!
  16. One can of frozen orange juice concentrate and a bottle of catsup and mix it up in a blender. Put the roast in a crock pot and pour the mix over it. Depending on the size of the roast, 6 to 8 hours.
  17. I get them both the same thing! Seriously, I found out that whatever the wife says she wants, get a gift card to where they sell it. That way the size is right, the color is what she wants and if she returns it, she has to keep track of the receipt.
  18. It may take some reading, but, https://ecosystems.psu.edu/research/projects/deer study may have your answer. There is a lot of info in the study.
  19. Congrats, you will enjoy it. A few years back I got one of those for Christmas that said "Your other present is on lay-away til August". He was born while I was in Alaska and I had to wait a day until I got cel service to see his picture. Spoil the child well!!!!!
  20. Okay, let me reword this, why would "anybody shoot at 50 yards". Can you hit where you are aiming at 50 yards? Yes. You can probably sight in for 100 yards and hold a reasonable group. But now throw in the variables. Was it 50 yards or 55 yards? The further out you go, the drop increases dramatically. Was there any wind? Was there anything that could deflect the shot; branches, leaves? Then there are those nasty laws of physics. Can you get the penetration you need if you hit rib on the way in? Nothing against crossbows. So without hijacking the thread, I've stated my point.
  21. Why in the hell would you shoot 50 yards! Just because it is a crossbow doesn't mean you can shoot long distance. I limit my shots with a crossbow to the same as I would with a compound. Too many variables beyond 35 yards.
  22. What do the adjoining properties do? If the general rule for them is some restriction, then by all means do it. If not, the second a buck steps off the lease somebody else will definitely drop it!
  23. If you research it, you will find there is not a lot of difference. Will there be some? probably, but not enough to make a big difference in the ballistics.
  24. Hope all goes well for you. After this is over and done, it will change your whole look at life. Get well soon, hunting season is upon us!
