  1. Esp when a member quotes another's post that has multiple photos, etc. I've seen a single page within a topic that 3-4 members have quoted posts with numerous photos. Anyone that does not know, you can edit (delete) items within a quoted post. Every member is responsible for doing their personal account maintenance by deleting old photos/attachments, messages, etc. Why keep anything that's more than 6mo old or esp older than 1yr??
  2. ... or not having any guilt when the weather isn't hunter friendly. When you're working M->F, you feel an obligation to hunt regardless of if it's raining, windy, bitterly cold, snowing, etc. Not so much when you can pick & choose any day of the week to hunt.
  3. I did the same as the OP, retired at 62yo, but I didn't want another job. Oh yeah, there's always the lure of looking at SS &/or your retirement fund and thinking how much more retirement income you'd have if you only worked a couple/few more years. Hell with that, I just made some budget cuts and don't miss having much disposable income! Happiness & your sanity are worth a lot!!
  4. It's what the anti Xbow crowd refers to a Xbow as.
  5. All members could help by merely going into their profile and deleting attachments that are older than 1-2yo.
  6. Now you can begin to hand feed that bunny that I see the tracks in the snow!
  7. ... but this new proposed bill has been added onto the budget. Cumo tried this once before and it got removed and never advanced thru the legislative process. Referring the Xbow hunting seasons and limitation is just "common sense". Now we all know politicians possess that mental capacity... Optimistically, maybe this will be lucky 7, 7th attempt to institute Xbow legislation.
  8. Pretty sure the Florida Dept of NR realizes they will never eradicate the python infestation. A Burmese Python can lay up to 100 eggs annually. They put rabbits, cats, feral pigs, etc to shame in the reproduction department.
  9. Agreed! The current Xbow regulations was s/u FUBAR from the beginning. What happens when a bunch of legislators who have no clue listen to a bow hunters organization on how to implement Xbows.
  10. God bless those of you that can still use open sights. My old eyes can't focus on rear & front sights while clearly seeing the target, even when wearing my tri-focal glasses. To those that use a 20mm objective lens scope, aren't you limiting your field of view?
  11. ^^^^ If you're saying it has been a lobbying war between NYBHs and NYCC, you're correct. Another dirty little secret about this issue is it has mainly become a war between legislators from upstate and the greater NYC area, with the later having the most votes &/or influence. If it's such a "hot potato" issue, why the legislators don't simply grant the DEC the power to make Xbow regulations, seasons, definitions, etc...!??! Too logical...?
  12. Would be the best move NYS made if that happens, but doubt NYS will not GF it somehow. No proof any hunter actually used/hunted with a Xbow since a ML & a basic hunter safety course is what's required currently. May be some legal issue with telling hunters that they can no longer use a Xbow w/o a bow safety course. I have a bow safety cert, but those that have hunter the past 6yrs in NYS with a Xbow just might be PO'ed if told to take bow course.... Not to beat a dead horse, but that's just part of 2014's Xbow regs being FUBAR.
  13. Interesting, but not expecting it to even get voted upon as a NYS budget line item. Remember a few years ago Cumo also added it to the budget? Got removed and sent to the black hole sub-committee, where it sits every year.
  14. Obviously the first couple of things you'd have to do IF you won that much money; get a super good tax attorney and literally disappear. Then you can make all the secret plans of how to spend the money w/o people knocking on your door with their hands out. Anyone remember the old TV show, IFC called "The Millionaire". Hire someone to find people in need and help them out. While watching their lives change, all anonymously!
  15. Hope you know she will always be looking down upon her family, until all of you reunite again. My heartfelt sympathies go out to you & the rest of the family!!
  16. Too funny, when the dude tells the bigger buck to sit and then pets the smaller one to calm it down.
  17. Hire it plowed &/or disced for the 1st time by someone with a tractor if it is accessible. Then you can use much lighter ATV pull behind equipment in the future if you change plot seeding. Don't think you'd be happy with what a "ground hog" accomplishes. Or just copy Culver's invention!
  18. I've heard of those that have gotten calls from outfitters to fill-in for a last minute cancellation. Typically outfitter's cost will be much cheaper due to original hunter losing their deposit. Problem is being ready for a spur of the moment call and getting time off from work then. From what I've heard, some outfitters let you be added to a call list for such occasions.
  19. I also looked into an elk hunt several years ago. Never booked a hunt, but had almost decided on NM or AZ, not as mountainous. If you have your heart set on a true mountain man elk hunt in the Rockies (CO, ID, etc), better start your fitness routine now. Lotta mountainous terrain & thin air! IRC, KY also has an elk hunt lottery, but not sure of the odds. Think KY only issues ~600 elk permits and PA issues ~165 permits with very few antlered tags. Correct me if I'm wrong.
  20. What did I win?? Okay, so I'll admit I'm only ~60% of posted age.
  21. You have to upload videos to another web storage site (ie;Google Photos, etc) and then you can copy that site's link here.
  22. Felt adventurous, so I tried a new Puerto Rican dinner that recently open near me. Not sure what I was expecting, but it was decent just not spicy & was pretty bland. Needed at least some garlic &/or tanginess. Ala a garbage plate style; yellow rice, red beans, stewed pork and a ground beef empanada. Probably try it again as a take-out and doctor it up to my taste at home.
  23. ^^^ Stalking is what I think of when you're slowly walking around constantly looking for a shot opportunity. Still hunting to me is sitting still in one spot. Suppose there's a hybrid or combination of the two methods, stilking. Add that to your deer hunting vocabulary...
  24. Sicilian or Italian, it's not really Christmas without Pizzelles.
