The fancy oats definitely did better and stayed greener longer than the seed oats...However the deer seemed to like one as much of the other...I still haven't decided which way I will go this year...SOOO many decisions to make <<sigh>>….

Looks like a redneck motor home....

I wish I could send you some of our rain...Except for one two week spell back in early July. I have been mowing my lawn every 4-5 days all summer...Hoping now that my food plots will dry enough this week so I can finish discing them and get some seed in the ground..

Tough to beat a medium to heavy weight bullet from a medium bore ( .33 TO ,38) caliber rifle, when shooting at the south end of a rapidly departing northbound deer, or elk for that matter...Elmer Keith knew that from his experience hunting elk in black timber..

Half of tree stand falls were fatal, 100% were preventable
Pygmy replied to Jdubs's topic in General Hunting
When I started bowhunting, most guys who hunted from trees found a limb that they could stand on..Then came hang on stands, most of which were homemade...One of those gave out on me and I DAMN near suffered a gravity attack, but was lucky.. Over the course of quite a few years, most of my friends suffered at least ONE gravity attack, although none of them were injured seriously...SEVERAL OF THEM WERE very LUCKY.. I quit using hang ons and climbers quite a few years back.. I now only hunt out of ladder stands with safety lines, or, more often, out of an enclosed tower blind with a stairway and handrail... -
Good luck, Dom !! I never did horseradish myself, but my neighbor used to do it...He told me to make sure to grind it OUTSIDE !!...Hehehe....

Besides deer what is your favorite thing to hunt
Pygmy replied to Hunter007's topic in General Chit Chat
Deer are WAAAAY down on my list of favorites..... #1.....Turkeys #2.....Waterfowl #3...Anything else that flies #4...Rabbits with a beagle #5...Squirrels Honorable mention is given to caribou, elk, and pronghorns, because I don't get the opportunity to hunt any of them much anymore... -
whats your first date for hunting this fall?
Pygmy replied to Robhuntandfish's topic in General Hunting
I'll be doing some squirrel hunting in September...Love to hunt'em, love to eat 'em, and those warbles don't bother me much.. In past years I have hunted the early goose season, but lately I wait until the second season when I can shoot ducks too, unless I happen to spot a good feeding field or get an invite...Ya never know... -
How About Some Rain
Pygmy replied to landtracdeerhunter's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
I have two plots plowed and disced over once, but they need several more passes with the discs before I plant... The problem is, with almost daily rain, the plots are a quagmire.. If I tried to work them now all I would have is a muddy, rutted mess.. I need a few rainless , hopefully breezy days so I can finish working them up and get some seed in the ground.. The good news is that my clover plot is doing great with all the rain... -
You have the COOLEST one, Zeb ..A whole set would be a bunch of others...One of my friends has one in 30-30...Another one has a .303 savage..Not sure how many other rounds it was chambered in, but a bunch....

Happy Birthday, Larry....!!!...

Very obviously a SMLE converted to 45-70, even using an altered military stock...Interesting... Both the parent .303 and the 45-70 are rimmed cases.. Appears that they may have even altered the issue mags to fit the big cartridge...I would wonder how well it would feed also...
