  1. When I am in the woods or on a lake or a stream, it is the only time I feel really FREE , from life's problems, day to day responsibilities, and other obligations...Even if if is for only a few hours.... For many years, I hunted spring gobblers in both PA and NY before work in the morning...EVERY day...This entailed going to bed around 8:00 PM and then getting up well before daylight, driving to my hunting spots and being on top of a ridge when daylight broke... I remember many times leaning against a tree, half a mile from the road, listening to the woods wake up, and thinking " Imagine those poor bastards who are lying in bed MISSING all of this".......
  2. Sounds like a 760 , with a DBM....When you said OLD I envisioned a M 14 or perhaps an M141 , which both had tubular mags.... Shucks, a 760 couldn't be much older than me..... Oh crap....Wait a minute...That's pretty old.....<<SIGH>>....
  3. No teeth ?? It's a gay bluefish......
  4. Could you lend me a hand making a few "bucks"...??...
  5. I do not ever talking to anyone who owns a CZ rifle that is not a tackdriver...That includes my CZ 550 in 9.3 x 62 which groups 250 grain Barnes X bullets under an inch at 100... Like you, I do not care for the protruding magazine...Good fix... My 550 also has the single set trigger..Very sweet for shooting off the bench, but on game I have always used it single stage...The trigger is very easily adjustable and even a moron like me can get a very nice single stage pull with the simple instructions that came with the rifle's manual...
  6. .17 Rem, 22 Hornet, 25-20, 32-20, .222 Rem 223 Rem....Just to name a few... Never heard of anyone shooting a deer with the .17, but all of the others I listed are capable of clean kills with proper shot placement...In fact, I believe the record typical whitetail for many years was shot with a 25-20.....
  7. I buy the fattiest ground beef I can find, usually 70% lean... I grind about 1 part ground beef to 2 or 3 parts venison... Gives it enough fat to make a patty and tastes like hamburger to me...I use pork butt for sausage, and GB for burger...
  8. I sure do !!!.... Even old Freda Ferndip.....She had buck teeth so big she could sit in the kitchen and eat an ear of corn in the living room....!!....
  9. I thought it was about one of my old old girlfriends...Sure do miss her....<< SIGH >>.....
  10. Unless I have missed somebody, Doc has the most years experience hunting, and I am second.. That makes Doc " HOFIC" or Head Old Fart In Charge"...... It makes me " VHOFICOV" or Vice Head Old Fart In Charge Of Vice "......
  11. Damn KIDS !!!..., hehehe ... I got my first small game license in 1962, but by that time my Old Fat Father had been letting me roam our 200 acres for a couple of years with his .22, so I already had a few woodchucks, rabbits, squirrels and coons under my belt....
  12. I have been called a man of many vices.... I'm not sure WHY...I only have one and mine isn't nearly as big as Larry's.....
  13. Get a thermacell...Works much better than liquid or spray repellent... It doesn't help much if you are walking. but hunting in a staionary area such as a blind or a treestand, it will absolutely keep the skeeters away...
  14. That looks like a vintage El Paso Weaver scope on that M37...If it is, I highly approve ! Back in the day when we had to use shotguns to do a rifle's job, I had a Weaver K 1.5 and a K 2 .5 on several different guns....Great old scopes !! I liked them nearly as much as I like my Leupold M8 fixed 4 powers....
  15. Please let me know how you do at PVI.....Been my favorite place for many years, but have not been there since the covid and heard a couple of " less than stellar" reports...
  16. For many years the very best place to eat a classy sit down dinner was The Pleasant Valley Inn on Rt 54 just south of Hammondsport.... Great food, great service, great atmosphere... That was my place for 'special" dinners for many years... However, it changed hands a couple of years ago and I have heard it is not as good as it used to be... I did notice that it was not open over Labor Day weekend and thought that somewhat odd... You might inquire of your hosts at the B&B regarding it's present status...
  17. I caught about a one pound rock bass right in front of the Waterfront yesterday......What a slob !!
  18. What Tracker said !!... Also, if you are looking for an excellent sit down dinner, Three Birds on Market St. in Corning is as good as you'll get...
  19. I hunted down near Lumpkin...We were close enough to Ft. Benning to hear artillery rounds...
