Andy pandy’s Latest move
Dinsdale replied to rachunter's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
It is what it is..... She has to run a campaign in a Democrat heavy district thats in Westchester; tough to win in any way as a Republican let alone one wearing an NRA t-shirt. Look at Gillibrand; when she was my representative she got great marks among hunters and gun owners. Gave her a crack at the big money as a US Senator and she folded liked a cheap tent. Molinaro is interesting guy. Ran for a local Village board seat here in Dutchess at 18 years old and was elected Mayor the next year. Career politician and has been moved along by Republican party. I think hes falling on his sword; and would have been a better candidate for Congress. -
Andy pandy’s Latest move

From her platform during latest election ,I'm guessing she doesn't quite grasp the idea of what fully automatic means; SUPPORT common sense gun laws including universal background checks, banning bump stocks and fully-automatic assault weapons, and raising the age to buy a firearm to 21. https://ballotpedia.org/Julie_Killian -
Sometimes it just works out that way. I have a couple nemesis animals that seem to have eluded me.

I'd drag you along to Africa on a hunt but between the Turkey and Bear trips, I'm a bit scared after a 16 hr flight you'd jinx that hunt too!

Knife Sharpening?
Dinsdale replied to dbHunterNY's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
Another upside to Japanese stones is they are artificial and easy to re flatten if you mess up or just from normal wear if you don't use the whole surface. Traditional use is to rub a Nagura stone over the top of the stone before each use. It both raises a slurry that you want and will flatten the stone from use. You can find a Nagura for about $10 on line. Another way to flatten is using a scrap of plate glass and a sheet of 2000 silicone carbide paper to flatten keeping wet. Glass can be had for free at any glass shop. This would be for a poor kept stone that needs some real help. -
Knife Sharpening?
Dinsdale replied to dbHunterNY's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
Personally I like the simplicity of Japanese waterstones and use my 1000/6000 all the time in the shop. Use a piece of rubber EPDM roofing on the bench to give a non slip surface, and an old tupperware container to soak/ store them. -
Z3? How does it track?

County should have a 'Sanitary Code' and you can see if an outhouse is even legal; some won't allow that. Some can also be linked to other codes like many downstate....Ulster/Putnam/Sullivan/etc linked to NYC DEP for watershed codes. Code enforcement uses google earth just like we can; something changes and expect a visit.

Good stuff. I'm so out of shape right now. What peak are you going to finish on?

On a jobsite in the Catskills near Wooodstock; we were eating lunch on second floor deck of a house. Watched a fully mature bear actively smelling a scent trail working his way across a big field. Then he climbed a smaller lone tree in the middle of field for about 5 minutes. He bolted down out of the tree and pounced on a fawn hidden in the grass, went to rock wall and had his fill. Seen some cool predator hunts, but that was right up there for wow factor.

I have a steel tank that I'm going to cut and weld on. Vertical ? Horizontal? Build an indirect smoke source off the side? I've done the old refrigerator route years ago for ham and bacon, electric burner in bottom. If I went horizontal I could grill on it too. Input?

Leopard live on cam right now in South Africa
Dinsdale replied to Dinsdale's topic in General Chit Chat
And hes off, cats and moving in the darkness go hand in hand. Whitetail Mongoose on now. I have spent time where this is broadcast from, so feeds the addiction til I go back again.... That Leopard is in his prime and a killing machine, taken something most days in the last week; heres a few days ago I watched during lunch that is about 10 minutes condensed; -
Its 9:30pm here he may be here for a few minutes or an hour never know. Part of what I follow on line this camera is remote operated in South Africa and there is a very full lazy cat on camera there in the middle of their night. They are 6 hrs ahead of us. He ate most of an adult Impala of a live safari drive that also happens twice a day from the bush. Hes made several kills live in the last week too..... EDIT: HERE IS CLIP FROM LIVE BROADCAST THAT WAS LINKED:

I have 2 Stihl; one a commercial strait shaft that will take a saw blade and a little bent shaft homeowner type. I use the little one all the time. Just needed a primer bulb for it, first repair ever on it. Dealer said it was 17 years old and found a generic one on line for $3.

No you don't, trust me......when even the trackers don't want to tangle with it? Its bad, really bad.

If I wanted to hunt there(NM) now as a non resident I would just buy a land owner tag and be done. I bought Muledeer and trespass rights that way on 23,000 acres and was lots of fun. Frankly I like the area and hunting would just be a side bonus if I felt like getting involved. For a time I was putting in for points/applications for several states but not doing anything now. Back when applying everyone I knew was just looking to hide from their wives for a week, so I lost interest. Most of my interest is not west but east, across the Atlantic. I know a few outfitters well out west and have had some interesting offers, but nothing has tickled my fancy, maybe someday.

I tried to find any employment for about 2 years in Namibia and move there around 15 years ago, but white foreign nationals is a tough call. I know 2 Americans that made it happen as ex military as advisers. I tried to find an NGO, but no luck. I really like the area in the mountains above White Sands military base in New Mexico; but I wouldn't draw a tag every year and would play the neighboring states so I'd hope to find something. Folks I know there layout a couple grand just in tag and application fees every year, you get most back if not drawn. With the draw tag system, just being a resident is not enough for prime areas and the point creep happening in draw odds makes it less and less likely to consistently draw something. A friend who started me hunting went to Arizona and took several years to draw his first tag, he'd come back here to deer hunt and stay with friends. 20 years later and he's never drawn a premium Muledeer tag yet.

I hate when these folks lump all us hard core bikers into one crazy group. Had my ride opened right up full throttle today and I'm not apologizing for doing it either, so tough for you complainers. Got her purring like a kitten right now too....

I worked a day for a guy who though he was going to set the home furnishing world on fire with some handcrafted Queen Anne reproduction furniture. I grew up doing that stuff and he was clueless. But that bad part was he rented a building in the middle of an operating scrap metal yard, that smelled of diesel fuel, roof was leaking all over, next to a sewage treatment plant, and just outside the front door they were using a track-hoe with a hammer to break weldments off a bridge demo. project. Trying to layout dovetails and do precision work when the floor is vibrating and you can't hear, dodging rain drops inside, was ridiculous. I didn't even ask for the days pay, just never went back. Did some repairs in a local slaughterhouse for the owners, eh, everything felt greasy and smelled of death. But that payed well, so no complaints for a few days.

Thanks for summary; sorry you guys didn't connect, but good that had fun anyway. Interesting comment on rynoskin, looked at it, but first 'real' review I've seen of it. Sounds like good investment.

2 different options I have used. A plastic case and then I wrap it in cardboard. I stop at local appliance place and use a fridge box. Or what I like better is using some 2" ridgid insulation foam and make a custom fit insert for a box. I wrap gun in a layer of bubble wrap to prevent any rubs. You can often get a spare box at local gun store.

Fingers crossed. Shame bear has to pay for hunters stupidity for choosing that ammo; in the age of wonderful information I don't understand that myself. But you pays your money and you takes your chances.
