  1. Wow the price is right on that for sure and all the reviews are excellent. Not sure how you can go wrong. I always just purchase my camo from Dicks or wherever after the season and go with what is cheap. My camo looks a lot like the Mt camo. I often wonder if it so dark that I just look like a black blob. I would love to know exactly what the deer see when they are looking at me. I might have to place an order....looks like really nice stuff....
  2. I haven't hunted with my Crossbow yet but I was planning on attaching it to my backpack. That's what I do with my bow walking in. Is there any reason this wouldn't work?

After years of hunting with a Remington 870 slug gun....I am not sure how anyone can complain about the kick on any rifle I have ever shot. I used to have to beg myself not to pull the gun and anticipate the recoil.
  4. It is property that myself and some other hunting buddies lease....I don't own it....I would love to but I couldn't afford the taxes never mind the price of the property
  5. Hey Grow, I put my camera in just before bow when I go in and check my stand and replace straps etc. I pull it out the last day of the season that I hunt. Other than a spring walk with the family (shed hunting)(never found one) really don't get to the property other than maybe a day or two for spring turkey. So no I don't run camera's all year. I should and would like too spend more time there but every season I am enjoying something else and spend my time on that....
  6. Is there any reason why giving this a try would hurt the hunting?.......I have always wanted to try it but my seasons seem to go from, hunting to snowmobiling to racing/boating to hunting again and I never make the time. I have a trail cam in the area. If I went by what was on it I would never sit there. For some reason I can't catch a deer on it at all
  7. I know some of you are against crossbows etc but I am going to be really upset that I got a crossbow for Christmas if I could have gotten one of these instead. That thing looks awesome!!!
  8. It is leased property so I can't just plow up a field and plant corn...never mind the fact that I don't have the resources to do that. Every deer I kill in the area has green paste in their stomach....Like they have been eating green grass or some other green plant. But I don't know where they are getting it from. I was just thinking if I could give them a small grazing area it might be beneficial to me and my stand......Most of the deer I see are moving through and not feeding. I had a doe browsing but I have no idea what she was eating. There are acorns but there must be more food around because the deer don't eat them as far as I can tell. Unless they dig them out in the winter when I am not there....
  9. Thanks for your reply...that is kind of what I was thinking....Do you know what I could put down that will grow without much sunlight? Can I just use that throw and grow stuff?
  10. I shot my 8 pt on opening day at about 50yds. I had a Doe about 10feet from the base of my tree at the time of the shot. When I shot the buck the doe didn't do anything except look up at me. She then continued feeding like nothing was wrong. An older friend of mine that hunts all over the country told me, when I told him that story that a deer does not hear gunshots when they are close. (I have no idea if this is true, its just what he told me) He said their ears don't register with sounds that are that loud and if they spook it is most likely the action of the gun that scares them. A few years ago I shot a 4 pt on opening day and right after the shot I had several doe file through like nothing had happened so it sort of made sense to me. I would like to know if that is really true. He said he has been at the range numerous times target shooting and had deer feeding off to the side of the range.
  11. After an awesome year at least for myself I am more excited than ever for next deer season and I am thinking about things I can do to enhance my hunting spot. My stand is set in a small patch of hardwoods....maybe two acres. Behind me is a small area of tall pines (about 35- 40 yds behind me). To my right, about 30 yds there is a ravine with a small creek in the bottom of it....The ravine is a mix of brush and taller trees. In front of my stand I am overlooking hardwoods for about 75 yds...Maple, Oaks and a few birch trees here and there. In front past the oaks is another pine woods more dense than what is behind me. To my right...just outside the hard woods 50yds or so is smaller trees and brush with a few mature trees here and there. My question is....if I took my leaf blower this August and blew the leaves away down to dirt in front of my stand. How big of an area would I have to plant to make a difference in my hunting....If I did a 50ft by 50ft area would that do anything? What could I plant that would grow with limited sun until the leaves start falling? Would an area that small be a waste of time? Any input would be great....Thank you
  12. A friend of mine has a go pro....I have no idea which one it is....Maybe I will just see if I can borrow it, mount it to my bow, shoot the target and see what the footage looks like...
  13. Cool story...I enjoyed reading it......I have had deer materialize right in front of me on more than one occasion. I don't have any idea how they do it. You think you are watching and paying attention and all of a sudden its like, how the heck did you get there without me seeing you....Happens to me at least once a season. Heavy ore deposits def effect compass readings. Could a large magnetic field change a bullets trajectory???
  14. Usually when deer season is over I jump right into snowmobiling....Going to give it ago tomorrow....I love snowmobiling, 4 wheeling, boating with the family/skiing and tubing..Racing my Z06 Corvette at Lebonan Valley..and coaching my Daughters soccer team. Basically I love anything with an engine....
  15. Congrats!!!! Take it all in....Time goes fast...my daughter is turning 11 this month
  16. I am interested in getting a camera for filming my hunts. I have heard the GO Pro while a nice camera is way to wide of an angle for filming hunts. I would like something I can mount on my Bow, Crossbow and Rifle. I was looking at this one...Not sure what to think with the price....like everything else some people love it other people say it is junk.....Any suggestions? Well for some reason, I can't post a link.... It is an ATN Shot Track HD on Amazon for $99.95 Has 5x fixed Zoom but doesn't sound like it has image stabilization
  17. I was going to say Nikon Prostaff but you post pretty much eliminates that....I love mine....
  18. I have a Leupold Fixed 2.5x on my slug gun. Gun hasn't been out of the safe since we switched to rifle. I only purchased it because the scope was used at my local gun store and I got a heck of a deal. I wished it was a 4x but I never had trouble killing deer with it.....
  19. I have a variable single pin sight as well....It is a HHA ....Like the spot hogg it has variable range but a sliding scale instead of a dial......I leave it on 20 yds while I am hunting but I believe the scale goes all the way out to 100 yds....(I have never tried past 40)...I love the sight.....can't stand the clutter of the mult pin....
  20. I hope not....I don't get there very often (only because there isn't one near me) which is probably good or I would be broke. I love the store though and look forward to the catalog.
  21. I have been using Evercalm and I really like it. It isn't an attractant but a deer bedding smell that it suppose to put the deer at ease when they come in. I didn't have any deer spook or act on high alert at all this year other than the one deer that blew at me as I climbing down my ladder. I shot a 8 pointer on opening day with a doe less than ten yards away from me. I figured she would bolt the second my gun went off. She didn't care at all. I had to wait for her to slowly wander out of the area before climbing down.
  22. I got a Primos workhorse for Christmas from my wife. I mentioned it when it was in Dicks Black Friday flyer for $29......I figured for that kind of money it sure can't hurt to try it.....I am with you, I just like getting pics.....I don't need 20 MP....I am not blowing these pics up and putting them in my living room....
  23. What is making you think about switching to shotgun? I have a Remington 870 with a rifled barrel and a Leupold fixed 2 1/2 power scope on it....I hunted with it for years.......When we switched to rifle several years ago now....I never looked back....I haven't had that gun out of the safe since. There was nothing that slug gun did better than my .308....I hope I it remains in the safe.....I also have not made a shot with the rifle that I couldn't have managed with the slug gun because I too hunt in the woods.....The rifle is better in every way as far as I am concerned.
  24. I am usually not upset when hunting season is over because I go right into snowmobiling.....I haven't registered my sled yet this year,.....I did replace the slides and checked everything over so I am good to go if it does snow. I usually make 4 trips to Canada a year....The first is usually before Christmas. I already have my Canadian trail pass....they give you a discount if you get it before Dec 9th but it is still an arm and a leg. I believe this makes me legal in Canada whether I am registered here or not so I am sure I will go up there this year. If I don't get at least three trips in though buying the year pass was a waste of money because you can get weekend passes for $100 bucks (Canadian) I am thrilled it isn't snowing locally and the deer sure deserve this break after the last couple of winters but I sure wish Canada and the Adirondacks would get some snow.....
  25. I have never hunted yotes.....I have thought about trying.....I have only ever seen two in my life while deer hunting. One was probably 20 years ago, I was sitting on the ground leaning against a tree. It came in from my right on a dead sprint and damn near ran over my legs and was gone. It was so fast I didn't have time to even move and grab my gun. The second time was probably 5 years ago. I was in a tree stand overlooking a ravine. I caught movement to my left and turned my head and saw a yote creeping silently down the top of the ridge. I moved just enough to get myself in position to shoot it and it saw me and it was gone. No waiting around to see what I was or investigating. It just bolted. We have a lot of them too. We can't leave a deer overnight or it will be ripped into...Gut piles are gone by morning....I agree that they make deer look stupid....It is in our Bylaws in our hunting club that if we see one we shoot it.....someone shoots one about every 3 or 4 years.....They must be very smart animals....You would think they would be less worried being the alpha predator in the woods most of the time....
