  1. The portability and size of the Livewire is what caught my attention, I am glad that I found out ahead of time that it may be bulky. The idea of a controlled descent in the event of a mishap is very appealing to me as I use a climber and hunt alone many times.I have often thought that I would have to cut myself free and slide down the tree if I slipped off my climber and couldn't get back on.( I carry a knife in my pocket for just such an event ).I use my fall restraint when climbing down by sliding it down the tree, cinching it tight and so on.I have used it going up too however It has gotten in the way before.I will keep looking around but it sounds like the Livewire may be more user friendly with a climbing stand.
  2. The CDS looks like a great idea especially if hunting alone. I am not sure if they are inconvenient to use with a climber.I may have to just use my fall restraint again this year.
  3. I am supposed to be going with a co-worker. I enjoyed the show last year,I had not gone to it in several years. It is forecast to be windy and cooler Sun. when I plan on going. Sat. is gun/$ raffle in the afternoon.
  4. Man, all I seem to find are kids clothes and toys, books and things I don't want. But I have found some good kitchen knives at sales. Enjoy the rifle.
  5. These people come to the U.S. for higher education, and take billions of our dollars, food and medicine, and then go on a rampage because some unknown idiot makes a video that 99% of the world would never had known about if the violence and protests hadn't occurred. BRILLIANT !
  6. I know some of you have the Tree Spider Livewire System. I am looking for updated opinions on any of the controlled descent products that are attached to a fall restraint and lower a hunter to the ground.Opinions please.
  7. I use totes too. I find them to be very convenient to grab and go in the morning.I try and keep them organized long before I am going hunting.I keep mine in a breezeway with the lids off to minimize any household odors (cooking) from coming in contact with the clothing etc. but still allowing air flow.
  8. Thank you very much.I will be spending time later this afternoon with my family celebrating my mom's birthday earlier this month and mine. I will see my son for the first time in a couple weeks due to him going back to college so I am looking forward to that.I need to talk to my nephew about the upcoming deer season (gun).I'm sure we will all eat too much ! I went to the gun range yesterday so that was fun, also picked up a new Stoeger M2000 for $350 a few weeks ago as an early birthday/ christmas present to me ! The weather looks good so I will probably just take it easy today. Thanks again .
  9. I like gift cards too, that way you can wait for a really good sale.
  10. I read about the proposed legislation and what irritates me the most is the proposed "cooling off" period. Because anyone wanting to buy a firearm MUST be angry, what other reason is there to buy a firearm! Here is an idea - start executing the shooters that think it is fun to go on a shooting spree, or send them to Gauntanamo with the rest of the American hating terrorists.
  11. Happy belated birthday fasteddie ! What hunting gifts did you receive ?
  12. There is a lot of experience on this hunting forum, good luck and be safe.
  13. I have seen more fawns this year than any other year that I can remember. There were three at a county park one evening, triplets I assumed. At some town park land that I walk I was 5 yds. from two fawns and the mother wasn't scared at all.Must be used to people being near.I am guessing our mild winter last year has something to do with the high number of fawns I have been seeing this summer.
  14. The 2012 archery/muzzleloading permit is available now.The 2012 shotgun application did not load completely when I downloaded it and then I tried to open it from the web page ,same result. The first page opens but the second with the application does not.Must be an incomplete p.d.f on the park's end. http://nysparks.com/parks/79/permits-applications.aspx
  15. http://usnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2012/09/04/13664055-wwii-vet-92-kills-intruder-with-single-shot-in-kentucky?lite Give that man a medal !
  16. NAP Thunderhead fixed blade work well.
  17. I will be making one of these-great idea Dave.I see luggage all the time being sold cheap or thrown out.Now I know what to do.All those stuffed animals that went to the landfill,DOH !
  18. For cold weather gun hunting I really like the old school wool.Red or green. And the squares really do break up your outline.Of course I am preaching to the choir ....
  19. tried for two in 8M even though I knew the odds were against me, got one.I am not worried .With bow, gun, muzzleloader and a possible dmap if I do the town bowhunt I hopefully will have venison in the freezer. And then there is always the left over permits .....
  20. Don't ya just love a good sale.I have bought 3 guns on sale from Dick's Sporting Goods too. Two semi-auto 12 ga. shotguns were marked down about $150 from the everyday price.Neither one are high end guns but for hunting they will do just fine.
  21. According to Wisconsin, baby squirrels can be born in August. Here is the webpage. http://dnr.wi.gov/org/caer/ce/eek/critter/mammal/graysquirrel.htm
