I am 47 and I am starting to notice things really up close are getting blurry, lasik only helps with long distance, as you get older you may need reading glasses..

The battle,over gun rights
rob-c replied to Nomad's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
I hear ya , I haven’t been happy with the nra for a long time. Especially when our king of a governor passed the safe act and not even a peep from them. BUT it’s getting to the point it’s all hands on deck and I will be rejoining in the very near future. The nra is the voice of us little guys, and I sincerely hope no one thinks that the communists democrats will stop with AR rifles . It’s all or nothing everyone of us knows this... -

2011 Yamaha 450 grizzly
rob-c replied to First-light's topic in ATV's , UTV's, Dirtbikes & Snowmobiles
I have a 01 400 Kodiak and the wife has a 04 450 Kodiak, yamahas are bullet proof. Right around 4,000 is not a bad deal for a 2011 grizzly with low milage and no wear and tear. -
That’s a crummy gun see what I did there. After you have shot some rounds let us know what you think. I don’t think I have ever herd bad things about a charter arms. Nice revolver by the way, and yes the wood grip looks good ..

Looks fun and challenging no doubt, I would have to fletch up another dozen arrows, I could see it getting expensive missing on a 100 Target course ..
-
just a little advice, remember its the archer not the bow .don't let the so called elite archers tell you that you need the latest and greatest to shoot well, enjoy it and don't take it to seriously and you will enjoy it for a long time...

Yep , hopefully at the end of the month wife and I will get out to do some shed hunting. We do more hunting than finding though ......

My 870 12 gauge with lots and lots of buck shot. And of course my lcr in 38 for concealed carry for the governors and Negans of the apocalypse . And my 44 super redhawk just because I love that gun .. and I would have my bow too no doubt , for being stealthy when I needed to be..

Belo The super red hawk and red hawk have a few differences . One is the super has separate trigger and hammer springs, the red hawk has a single spring ( makes the super easier to tune like reducing trigger pull with out affecting the hammer ) The super has a extended frame for the barrel to thread into making it stronger, now one or the other would take any abuse you could throw at it. But the super is supposed to be be stronger . Ruger only offers the red hawk in 357, 41, 44 and 45 . Now the super they offer in 10 mm,41,44,454 and 480. The grips are totally different and I prefer to have my optics mounted over the frame instead on the barrel . Now the black hawks ( a smaller framed gun chambered in 357 ,30 carbine , 41 and 45. The super black hawks are chambered in ( 41, 44. They are chambered in 454 and 480 but are 5 shot cylinder ) both are single actions . Cock it every time you want to shoot , open the loading gate and rotate the cylinder to load each round one at a time. completely different grip from the double actions , the plow handle grip is designed to roll the gun up in the hand to manage recoil , causing one to regrip the gun after every shot and not the best for heavy recoiling guns . The Blackhawk also has a grip called a Bisley grip , it makes the gun act like a double action making the recoil come back instead of rolling and is used on the larger calibers in 454,480. I have never shot a bisely grip but have read guys with big ( fat) fingers will get hammered by the trigger guard . I did handle a bisley hunter and when I wrapped my meat paws around the grip the trigger guard was right up against my finger .

For me my groups get better when I get the rust nocked off from not shooting a bunch. When I do get into my shooting groove I do not shoot single spot at 20 yards, I end up reflecting to many arrows if I do. At 30 yards when I am on I will smack arrows if I shoot a single spot. At 40 and 50 in am happy with the arrows touching a 3 inch bulls eye. The farthest shot I have taken on a deer was 43 yards. She was super calm and had no idea I was there, I had time to range her , draw my bow and really settle in to the shot. But I had practiced a ton that summer and I was very confident at that yardage. I believe the best practice for hunting is shooting 3-d , unknown distance and you have to make the one arrow count.

Chrisw , I had the same thing happen . I was dead set on a super Blackhawk hunter and walked into the local field and stream and they had a very lightly used super red hawk for $450 and well I bought it.

When I hunted with the 12 gauge I would sight in high at 50 and found I was good to 100 ( my max yardage ) My super redhawk I sight in dead on at 100 because my max shootin distance is 125. My wife’s go-100 is sighted in at 75 yards her max yardage.
-
Here is my super redhawk on the right, this gun is super accurate . I can hold 4 inch groups at 100 yards with my zero power red dot.

Wife and I had our picture taken with them a few years a go . wife had her arm around lee and I had mine around Tiffany, so you know the rules of marriage they cancel each other out ..

Welcome aboard, but I have to say I wouldn’t think Texas deer hunting is the same as ny. And yes where do you snowboard in Texas ?
