  1. The turkey's I have killed, have all been with a 12g, two and three quarter inch #6 shot shell. I see no reason to abuse myself, with magnum loads. The best part of turkey hunting for me, is seeing how close I can get to them. That's what excites me most about turkey hunting. I've never shot at one farther than 35 yards. most were much closer. But to each their own.
  2. So sorry to see this Cynthia. That's more than just a nip. Hope you heal up quickly, and completely.
  3. Having had a couple VERY CLOSE bear encounters myself, I know your heart was pounding!! Glad it only turned out to be a great story!! Actual bear attacks in NY, are thankfully quite rare. But ARE documented to have happened.
  4. Nice!!! Looks great! Congrats on your new rifle! You will love it I'm sure! Lots of stuff you can do with that beauty. AR's are like a blank canvas, just waiting to be done to whatever you want to do! I may have an extra 3x9x40 scope, and an AR base laying around, should you choose that route and need one. That's what I put on mine.
  5. I have a pinned mag. I also have speed loaders that feed from the ejection port. Works for me. To unload any rounds not fired, just pull the charge handle until empty. Or pop the back pin on the lower. If I should go to a state where they don't have ridiculous safe act laws, I'd just order a different lower.
  6. I don't think I could even ROLL a 385lb atlas stone, much less pick one up and carry it!!! Hope the move goes easier now buddy!!
  7. Lots of pellets on target at 50 yards! After you tag out, can I take this girl out on a date???
  8. I'm with ya on that!!! Paul, those gobblers roaming the ridges out there, should start getting their affairs in order!
  9. I remember gapping the points with a feeler gauge.......
  10. I have Texas Tech, Baylor, Arizona, Kansas in final four. Baylor and Arizona play for the championship. Arizona wins. Already took major hits to my bracket at the office. So low confidence in my picks.
  11. I used to be able to walk out my back door and hunt. Not anymore. But the farm, and lake property is only about 20 min. away. Will still make the trip as always, and as often. But fuel prices for field work, will probably put a little hitch in our giddy up. Along with fertilizer and seed prices.
  12. No matter what my watch says, during deer season I've always gone by deer time. They have no watches.
  13. Never done it. But it does sound like fun!
  14. If a deer "hears" something........it will "look" to see what it is.
  15. A can of flat black spray paint would have that box you have, fit in with the rest of the street, no?
  16. Sometimes it's the little things that make the biggest difference. Nice job!
  17. Best wishes for a Happy Birthday Sir!!!!
  18. I think the versatility, accessibility, and cost of the 223 is greater than the 300blk. There is a good variety of bullet choices in 223 for doing all of what you mentioned above Rob. I have the Omni Hybrid in 223-556, and for a low cost AR, I'm pretty satisfied with it. Let us know how it all goes for you this weekend.
  19. Way to think outside the box! Give it a go! Show us how it turns out. Best of luck to ya during the season.
  20. Not sure what heads will fly best out of this one? Will start with the 100g Slick Trick mechanical heads I'm using from my other crossbow. I have a few others here I can try too. Manual says not to use a fixed head, as the speed and power may cause them to plain? As far as bolts, I have a bunch of Piledrivers here I can try. There were some bolts that came with it, but most need refletching. Also need to pick up some Q nocks, for the Scorpyd, as that is what they shoot. I'm sure my guy Vic at Brown's Archery will fix me up. Will replace the string and cable too. Everything I'm reading about these is really good! Got lots of stuff with it, including a case, sling, quiver, lubes, owners manual, bolts, couple extra nocks, and other assorted goodies!!! I'm very thankful to Billdogge. He really set me up nice!

    Bass season

The "educated thumb" ! This is what I do too, especially whenever changing lures.
