  1. Turkey's may very well roost in the hemlocks, that borders that swampy area. But will not likely walk through the soggy ground. They may pitch off the roost to the other side, or down amongst the relatively open ground below the hemlocks. Then, move to a larger open gathering area. Try setting up between the two area's, roost and closest gathering spot. Before the season starts, I don't like to make any calls to the turkey's. They just get educated. One thing I've used in the past to locate turkey's on the roost, is the compressed air horn, in a can, used on boats. Very loud, and something they don't often here. Scout from a distance with good glass whenever possible. Be the turkey ninja!! Good luck this season!
  2. That's just crazy.....$10 a shell??? Nope. I'm not buying either! Don't care how good it is.
  3. Lets-Go-Yank-ees!!!
  4. On my AR, I went with a tactical two point sling. Connects to forend, and a ring below the charging handle. Very comfortable. And can be carried front, side, or back.
  5. Happy Birthday Biz!! All the best to ya!!
  6. Imagine how many times that old hen told the stories of............... "Yup.......Ol' Tom would've got blasted by an OBVIOUS to me hunter.....had I not led him away"!!!!
  7. Happy that you are healing up Cynthia.
  8. An all star line-up of birthday's today! Happy Birthday Sir's!!!
  9. Just get out there with the new rifle and give it a go! You'll need a speaker for your phone, to get the downloaded calls out there. Start off low volume and go a little louder, if no response. I'd stick to a rabbit distress call. Don't over do it though. Watch your downwind!!! If they can, they'll usually try to scent check before coming in. Good luck!
  10. The turkey's I have killed, have all been with a 12g, two and three quarter inch #6 shot shell. I see no reason to abuse myself, with magnum loads. The best part of turkey hunting for me, is seeing how close I can get to them. That's what excites me most about turkey hunting. I've never shot at one farther than 35 yards. most were much closer. But to each their own.
  11. So sorry to see this Cynthia. That's more than just a nip. Hope you heal up quickly, and completely.
  12. Having had a couple VERY CLOSE bear encounters myself, I know your heart was pounding!! Glad it only turned out to be a great story!! Actual bear attacks in NY, are thankfully quite rare. But ARE documented to have happened.
  13. Nice!!! Looks great! Congrats on your new rifle! You will love it I'm sure! Lots of stuff you can do with that beauty. AR's are like a blank canvas, just waiting to be done to whatever you want to do! I may have an extra 3x9x40 scope, and an AR base laying around, should you choose that route and need one. That's what I put on mine.
  14. I have a pinned mag. I also have speed loaders that feed from the ejection port. Works for me. To unload any rounds not fired, just pull the charge handle until empty. Or pop the back pin on the lower. If I should go to a state where they don't have ridiculous safe act laws, I'd just order a different lower.
  15. I don't think I could even ROLL a 385lb atlas stone, much less pick one up and carry it!!! Hope the move goes easier now buddy!!
  16. Lots of pellets on target at 50 yards! After you tag out, can I take this girl out on a date???
  17. I'm with ya on that!!! Paul, those gobblers roaming the ridges out there, should start getting their affairs in order!
  18. I remember gapping the points with a feeler gauge.......
  19. I have Texas Tech, Baylor, Arizona, Kansas in final four. Baylor and Arizona play for the championship. Arizona wins. Already took major hits to my bracket at the office. So low confidence in my picks.
  20. I used to be able to walk out my back door and hunt. Not anymore. But the farm, and lake property is only about 20 min. away. Will still make the trip as always, and as often. But fuel prices for field work, will probably put a little hitch in our giddy up. Along with fertilizer and seed prices.
  21. No matter what my watch says, during deer season I've always gone by deer time. They have no watches.
  22. Never done it. But it does sound like fun!
