My drive to work this morning was a little slower, as I scanned the woods edges and cut cornfields looking for deer. I really wanted to be out there!!! Just felt right for hunting. But just too busy at work right now to do so. Living through you guys who are out there. Good luck fella's! Big party at the Goat, after TF connects!- 10374 replies

Trying to plan first hunting trip with dads and kids please help

Outside of hunting a preserve, you will need a hunting license, anywhere you hunt. In order to obtain a hunting license, you will need to complete a hunter safty course. This is the first step to becoming a hunter. -

From the stand, I love those little pies too! Mostly stick to trail mix though. And jerky. How could I forget Rice Krispy Treats!!!

I don't have this shotgun, but Remington Accu Tip Sabots shot the best out of my Ithaca DS-2. And were lights out in performance on deer.

I have two grandsons involved heavily in sports. Both on the HS level. One in Baseball and Football. The other Soccer and Lacrosse . I love watching their teams play! The youngest is playing way above his age level, in BB and FB. The spirit and drive their teams display, is not seen too much in the professional ranks much anymore. Too many distractions now days for kids, like mindless video games, FB, or all the electronic devices. I think any organized sport, or activity is a good thing for our youngsters. Hunting, fishing and other outdoor stuff included! Get em doing something!!! But I do still follow the Yankees as that is a common conversation with the guys. We all are NYY fans. I remember listening to games on the radio with my grampy. And I do watch some NFL football games, as we all have different teams we follow. And we all kinda raz each other about who's team is doing what. Though I don't see too many games during hunting season. If I have something that needs to get done, it gets done, before I'll sit in front of the TV. And like most everyone here, I have a very busy life, and downtime is hard to come by. So when I do have some time to myself, I still enjoy watching a game, or even part of a game. I can not watch 99% of the hunting shows out there, as they are so far from reality, I may as well watch WWE!

I hope you thanked her nicely for washing them for you.

Good to hear you're slowly getting better Eddie. And I really admire your grit and tenacity. Good for you! I'm down to just over 50lbs on my old bow. Still got a pass through on the buck I killed last year. I don't think he would have noticed if I was pulling 60 lbs. Wishing you the very best of luck, when you get out there sir.

Legal....yes. Scumbag....no. He's just another hunter, hunting public land. I'd assume he knows the difference between deer and people, and would see and choose his target appropriately. Wouldn't be my choice to to set up where he was. But who am I to question another hunters choices? I certainly wouldn't want anyone making choices for me. As long as no laws are being broken, leave him alone. Though it doesn't set a very good example for hunters, as nonhunters pass by him.

No such thing as too many! The 308 would fit nicely between the 243 and 30-30! And you still have room for expansion, with a 270 and a 7mm-08 and 6.5 Creedmore and on and on and on..................................

Way to go! Great story. Great buck! Congratulations!!!

Nice 4H pic's!! Love seeing the local pictures, and hearing what's going on from others in our WMU. 35 degrees this morning here. Tomorrow, will only get in the 40s, with Thursday not getting out of the 30s!! Some snow flurries are even in the forecast! Sadly, I can't get away from work until Saturday. But have time off starting the end of this month, scattered through November. The cooler weather will help, with more deer movement! And we will see an increase in rub and scrape activity, as we move through the month. I saw new rubs and scrapes popping up last weekend, so the bucks are getting ready for the big dance! Deer sightings have been hit or miss so far this season, with the very warm temperatures. But the next three weeks should be great if the cooler weather prevails. Good luck to all the capital region hunters!

That should be perfect timing for some good rut activity in our areas of 4H! I've been keeping a detailed hunting log since 1984. The one day that keeps coming up as "the best day" on our properties is Nov. 10th. This day, or even a day or so before and after the 10th. is what I call the Magic Day. It's that day where you will see mature bucks standing in an open field, or along a road. Doe running everywhere, with bucks dogging them. Multiple bucks chasing a single doe. Grunting, snort wheezing, buck fights, and all the classic rut activities we deer hunters look forward to! Of course warm weather moves the activities more to night time, but on average the 10th is the day. Three days on either side of it is usually very good too. Thanks! Next weekend will be the last of his baseball games. After this week only two more football games Ieft. So really hoping to get him out more as the rut heats up! We were talking about days to get out, this afternoon, when he stopped by my office after class today. When he can get out there, all my focus is on him! My hunting is always secondary to his. Hopefully this will be his year. He was so close during youth weekend. Best of luck to both of you guys!

Slight uptick in deer movement over the weekend. I haven't seen too much, but my hunting partner saw nine deer yesterday. On the same property. But I'm not hunting my best spots yet. More just feeling out some new set-ups. With these cooler temps, each week up to November 10th, should get better.

Ground blind. Built with stuff laying in the woods nearby. I don't like being confined in a tree.

What Could or Possibly Also May Be in your Hunting Area

Everything is just fine! I did unbox and check out all the stuff! Was almost like Christmas when the boxes arrived. The scope will go on a future gun at some point. The reloading stuff will be used after the hoidays this winter. No time for that stuff now, with deer season in full swing. Really looking to making up some sweet rounds for next year though! Best of luck to you this deer season ! Will keep in touch. And will certainly use any reloading advice you have. -
Welcome! Lots of good folks here to share outdoor info. Just join right in!
