  1. 4H.... Albany Hilltowns Trailcam pic's are showing few older bucks, compared to late September. Small bucks are starting to become "interested" in the doe's, but not really chasing them. Rub lines and scrapes are really starting to pop up over the last three days, from a week ago. I expect that to continue this week.
  2. Overall, you could hunt with one of these stock out of the box, and be successful killing a deer. Yes the scope that comes with it is not great, but better than the scope that came with my Barnett Raptor. The Nikon Bolt is an awesome crossbow scope and worth the upgrade. Bolts I use are the Bonecrushers tipped with NAP Slingblades. Almost perfect with the field points on accuracy. Yes the trigger is terrible compared to a decent rifle. But I except it as it is. Lots of creep, so I just pull slowly and steadily till it goes off. Still hits where I aim! I still say for the money, this is the best crossbow out there. I have shot other crossbows, that cost much more, and they did not shoot any better. IMO. If full inclusion happens, I will sell and upgrade the Barnett Raptor. But I'm keeping the Centerpoint Sniper 370.
  3. Nice Buck!!! I feel your pain! BTDT!!! Got plenty of time to get him though! Good luck!!
  4. Nice pic's of a handsome young buck wj! It is fun to check the cams and swap cards, to 'see what ya got'. We started out a few years ago, with a couple cams that phade gave to my grandsons. I let them pick the spots to place them, and we soon got our first deer pictures! We had a blast that first year, going out and moving the cameras around and checking them every weekend together. Thanks Brad! Since then, I've purchased more cams from phade, wooly- (lucky wooly cams), and others here. Also from local retailers, to where we are running about a dozen cams now. And have half a dozen more in reserve. So many other critters besides deer we have pic's of, and I think that is the coolest part of having the game cams! And even a couple "what the heck is that" pic's too! Hope you and your son enjoy the pictures as much as we have.
  5. Our trail cam pic's have dropped off dramatically the last three weeks. Warm weather? Possibly. We still have plenty of deer sign though. Even moved some, and added a couple more cams. Got 12 cams running now. Hopefully this week, there will be an increase in pic's?
  6. Sat from noon until 6:15, no deer seen. Saw one small buck and four doe on the walk out. Back again tomorrow in a different spot.
  7. Looks like rain may be easing up soon. Will be out there till dark. This afternoon has the potential to be special. Good luck everyone.
  8. Scent free as much as possible for me. Scent free dryer sheets and detergent for washing. No matter what we do, a down wind deer will still smell us. There is no cover scent that will mask our human odor. So always hunt with the wind in your face. I have a saying, "the only scent that makes sence, is common sence, hunt the wind".
  9. This would just piss me off to the point where I'd do anything I could do, legally, to get these bastids! It would be on!
  10. My hat is off to you and all that use trad gear! Whatever your're doing, is working fine! You seen more dialed in this year, compared to this time last year for sure! Must be that beautiful new bow??? (and year round practice) Also, from my own trad days, more than 30 years ago. I remember slumps in my shooting accuracy, much like a hitter in baseball? Be shooting fine, then out of the blue, be just a bit off for awhile with no changes being made. Then be right back to where I was. It's one of the reasons I went with one of those new fangled compound thingys!! It's still a long shot with my bad shoulders, but I still dream of shooting my last bow buck with trad gear. That would come full circle for me. Best of luck to you for the rest of season my friend! Hope Natalie will be sharing the blind with you on the next one!!
  11. Wow!! How much does your arrow weigh with heads??? Even though the trad set up is slower, with the added weight, you must still be zipping them through deer!!
  12. 100 grain, or 125? I just googled them. They look like a real solid head! Congrats again on the doe buddy!
  13. The wife and I got ours yesterday. Good to go!
  14. For three years we had some law enforcement friends hunt with us. In exchange for the hunting privileges, year round, they were to arrest and harass all trespassers. Also my hunting partner and I became the biggest PR--KS you can imagine! Well, word got out! Nowhere near the problems we used to have. I was hunting the state land that borders ours last year, and ran into a couple guys. Asked them how they were doing, and if they had seen anything. They were quite friendly and said the only deer they saw was on the pr--ks property, and it's not worth the trouble to go there, was the response I got. I just smiled and said no it's not worth it, and those guys ARE pr--ks!!! Have a good day fella's.
  15. From one grampy to another, Congratulations!!! These are the best of times.
  16. My lucky antler burr carving I got from wooly. I'll have it around my neck when I head out Saturday morning!
  17. As if getting venison in the freezer isn't expensive enough! That is a crazy situation! Homeowners should cover it, right??
  18. After releasing my arrow, the next thing that arrow touches will be the deer I shot at. I have some hub style blinds with the "shoot through mesh" on them. First thing I did was pull that mesh down. Didn't even try to shoot a practice arrow through it.
  19. We have 9 or 10 cams out, and lately we have only been getting a bunch of doe and small bucks. Back in early September, we got a couple mature buck pic's though. We do have buck sign popping up all over, and my grandson almost shot a mature 8pt last Sunday that we don't have on camera yet. And he was moving in thick bedding cover. My feeling is that with plenty of food all over, and the abnormally warm temperatures, they just don't seem to want to move much. I think with the coolest temps so far this season, moving in this weekend, we should see an uptick in deer movement. If not, we should all go sit moog and phade's spot!!!!
  20. Vacuum sealed too. I think you got a good deal, with what you got. During these warm temps, you did good to get your deer to a cooler and cut up. We do our own, and are prepared to cut one up from the first hunt. Yum! Can't wait to get some fresh stuff in the freezer too!
  21. Will have to see if he does better against the Astro's? The Stro's won't go down as easy as the Yanks. Should be a good series.
  22. Inhale deeply the scent of the forest For today my friend your're hunting for us May your arrow fly true if you shoot at a deer Climb down take a picture and post it right here Good luck Bionic!
