Dmp does make a difference when you get your license?
grampy replied to Hunter007's topic in General Chit Chat
I've done it both ways, and have been granted and denied, hard to get 4-H DMPs. We need preference points here, so not sure if it is random or not. But, from what I understand, it is a computer based random selection. If, at the end of the deadline, there are still DMPs in the system they are again, randomly selected and mailed out to those who were denied for that unit. I have gotten these, a few times over the years, after initially being denied. Most times not though. -
Beauty of a buck! Looks as if your plan is paying off BIG time!

Sometimes they come back! And bring THEIR kids! I was lucky enough to have that happen for awhile. -

Great.......... I hate all them crawly bastids! Wasn't that long ago, when you could spend days or even weeks in the woods, and not see one on you. Now it seems, as soon as you step off the pavement, you have one crawling on you!

I killed a couple of my best bow bucks, the weekend before opening day, when it fell on Monday. Always saw deer that weekend!!! As they were pushed around by neighboring hunters, sighting in their guns, placing stands, walking around looking for the "perfect" morning spot, loud BS'ing, slamming doors, and loud laughing. I still say, that was always the best bowhunting weekend of the season!

I see your point. No doubt that the millions of tons of emissions, pumped into the atmosphere each year, for over 100 years, is not "natural". What is the consequence of that? Could there be a self healing, "natural" way that the earth's atmosphere will, or is, dealing with the greenhouse effect? I'm not smart enough to answer my own questions. It is, no doubt a slippery slope mankind has ventured onto, over the last couple hundred years. With the nuclear proliferation in the world today, the greenhouse effect may be the least of earth's worries. Short term and long. By the way, nice to see ya back! Was wondering where ya were.

Oh man, how did I forget the skunk cover scent, we got from the trapper supply? That was THE most foul stuff I ever used!

Mountain bikers, bird watchers, hikers, weed planters, photographers, ginsing root seekers, dog walkers, "lost" people, atv riders, mushroom hunters, christmas tree seekers, and yes, even some who think my land holds better deer than theirs.......just to name a few. And yup, seen all of these! I could list more, but I think you got the point.

Shot four arrows today. That's all my shoulder would let me shoot. First one at 25 yards.Three shot group at 30 yards. It ain't pretty, but I'll take it.Shot from my 18 year old Mathews MQ-32. Might just get "one more" deer with it!
-
My first shot at 25 in about 12 weeks.Still painful. But as long as can still shoot one good arrow. Deer should still fear me!.......grin.
-
Biz, with that bow, you only need three shots for practice each year, right???........grin.

Great place! Enjoy! I lived in Summerville for a few years. Loved the fishing and hunting down there. Oh.....and watch out for the gators! ........grin

Just a few things off the top of my head, that are different now, from when I started deer huning 45 years ago. Not better, not worse, just different. Goretex, and other high tech boots and clothing. Cell phones, with apps that show stand locations and wind direction. Food plots, specifically for deer. Pop up tent blinds. And climbing tree stands. Low budget rifles, that shoot better then the customs of years ago. Compounds and Crossbows. ANY deer used to be a trophy. Most hunters shot what they liked, and liked what they shot. Posted signs. ATV's. Large deer drives, are a thing of the past. Party Permits, where you had to have three or four hunters to shoot one doe. Public land parking lots are much less crowded now. Never had problems with things being stolen, or tresspassers. Used to be many more shots heard at first light, on opening morning. Many more young hunters, back in the day. Opening day was on a Monday. Lots of hunters would be "sick" that day.

Like you are now?........ Don't blame ya though Biz. My Yankees are actually have a very good season! It's just that the Red Sox are having a much better one! We'll see how it all shakes out in the end. As it looks now, the Sox are World Series bound. Until then, "Let's Play Ball"!!!

My best friends daughter started a pair of ice fishing mittens for me. She tells me they are almost done. She is having her first baby any time now, so I guess she's been a little busy.....lol

My bobcat from last year was a beauty, with very nice markings. We usually get at least one a year. Quite a few of them around here. But very seldom seen. Got this one from a ground blind, while deer hunting.

Mookie Betts is a special baseball player. I really like how he plays the game, on and off the field.

My enthusiasm for hunting this year is well not very enthusiastic
grampy replied to rob-c's topic in General Chit Chat
I just reread my previous post, and it seems a bit down to me now. I'm very lucky to be busy the way I am! I'm working full time and keeping up with three different properties. Seeded the last plot tonight after work, before the next bout of rain moves in. So I am preparing for hunting season!Tomorrow will start hanging cams. Sometimes I'm just so busy, I don't take the time, to just sit back and and enjoy the fruits of my labor. It's always on to the next thing that needs to get done. How did growalot manage all the stuff she did? Hmmm...I'll have to ask her sometime! lol. Anyways, I just finished my biggest annual project at work, so things will start getting easier there. No doubt when the leaves begin to change, and the first cool spell comes, with a hint of fall in the air. My thoughts will turn to the deer woods. It really isn't all about the kill for me anymore. As I have nothing to prove. It's all about sharing time with friends and family, seeing sunsets and sunrises, being alone with my thoughts. Its when I feel most alive. It's when I'm really me! I know I'm closer to the end of my hunting time, than the beginning. But no doubt, when the time comes and my body can't make it to the hunting woods. My mind will always take me there. And a smile will crease my lips, as my heart warms my soul, thinking of a cool fall morning. -

grampy replied to rob-c's topic in General Chit Chat
I'm hoping as the season gets closer, I will get more excited. But honestly, since spring, I have been far too busy with EVERYTHING! I really am not that stoked about hunting this year at all. Been out on the boat twice, that's it. Last year health issues kept me down. Those same issues are starting to give me trouble again lately. Back to the doc's right after Labor Day. I hope to help my grandson get his first deer this year!! I do look forward to that! But other than that, if I go, I go. No big deal. Very difficult to draw my bow anymore as well. Just not feeling it......... Hunting for me now is more about R and R, than killing deer.
