Just to be safe. Have someone check for any obstructions in the chimney before turning on the heat!!! A fire, or carbon monoxide, is not something you want! The grate around the chimney opening is the best way to keep out pests.

This is so true for me. As on my main hunting property, VERY SELDOM, will we see deer out in the open fields or hardwoods, during daylight hours. We have state land bordering three sides of this 500+ acre property. And the pressure from early fall, puts the deer on notice to stay in the thick areas during the times humans are most active. Soooo, that means if you want to kill deer, you have to be where they are! The thickest spots on the property! Over the years I've learned that there are places that I can see deer everytime I sit there. But they are not close enough for bow shots for me at 30 yards or less. Hugging the thick nasties, is the only way to get that close for me. Most times I will see few deer until they are very close, and within my own bow range. Preparing for the shot when everything is happening fast, at close quarters is for another thread! Then determining WHICH thick nasty to hunt on a given day, is another topic too! As most years I seem to play zig and zag with the resident bucks. But the challenge is what keeps me coming back, each year, with high hopes and higher anticipations.

I would move closer to the thick stuff. Most all of my set ups are very close to thick areas. I have very few wide open stands or blinds. The absolute key to doing that, is to set up for the prevailing wind. And you MUST be willing to move, if the wind changes to the deers favor. For really good spots, I may have three different set ups, within one hundred yards, to take advantage of most wind directions. Also, I won't hunt these big buck hot spots, until I know the big guys are on their feet and moving, in that area. I learned for an old timer many, many years ago, who said, "the closer you hunt to where they are bedded in the thick stuff, the more careful you need to be." I've found that to be very true.

CONGRATULATIONS!!! There are certain milestones in everyones lifetime, that are so special to us. This is one of those for you John. I'm so happy for you! Becoming a 46r is certainly a difficult achievement. The pure way you went about it is commendable. The dedication and willingness to help others along the way says a lot about you. And the driving forces that you mentioned, that spurred you to the end of your quest, are monumental as well. I'm proud to call you friend. I have tremendously enjoyed following this thread. The pictures and your descriptions of the hikes are top notch! I hope that you will continue this thread. As you continue to hike, and share the adventures, that are surely to come in the mountains for you, in the future.

Nice looking truck. Congratulations!

Really, Really Nice! Your artistic talent is amazing to me. To take a log, and see that in there, then bring it out, is so darned cool. When I look at a log, all I see is firewood......... Looking forward to seeing him finished, after the Dremel details. The chaps will definitely save ya from leaking all over the place, after a slip. Hopefully you can get em sooner rather than later.

I've got this in 16 and 12 gauge. Had em since the 70s. Taken a pile of critters from grouse and partridge, to squirrels, turkeys and deer with Model 37s. Though mine show some wear, they function and shoot just as well now, as the day I bought them. This one for sale, is a beautiful example, of a superb all around shotgun!

So glad you didn't get caught up in that, especially with family. Good that it just turned out to be an inconvenience for you buddy.

Nice work! -
Yes sir. No doubt that table was safe if TSHTF though. I've sat down with a couple of those guys too. And some others from this forum, never even crossed my mind to bring it up. Its a very personal decision, and everyone has their own reasons to do, or not do certain things. I've always gotten along better with people, when I mind my own business.

So cool, how you improve on each one, to get closer to what you have in mind. This one is really shaping up to be great! I'm looking forward to seeing the finished piece! I like how you show the progression pictures! Lets us follow along, to see where you're cutting, and how the outcome of each step, improves the carving. You're right. Two saws will be nice to go back and forth, each with it's own purpose, blocking and detail. Keep the pictures coming! Your artwork is amazing my friend!

I picked one up from Jdubs, got a good deal from a great guy! Put it on a Barnett Raptor, I like it alot! Much better upgrade, than the package scope that came with it. Crystal clear and I like the small circles, aim small miss small. And like DDT, I referenced the Spot On by Nikon to sight it in, and it shoots small groups out to 50 yards, no problem.

Yanks definitely need a spark. I don't think Boone is capable of giving it. Doesn't seem like anyone on that team is stepping up. I agree. At this point of the season Sox are the better team. Yeah, it hurts to say that.

Yes it does happen. Saw a few red oak acorns on the ground this week too. The tree is loaded this year. Haven't been up to our oak ridge yet. Hoping for a bounty there this year! Last year was a sparse year. The more acorns on that ridge, the more deer we will see during bow season.

First game of the year! Hall Of Fame Game! Bears vs Ravens. I know it's only a preseason game. But it's football! Got some new rules in play too. Catch rule has changed....again. And now, absolutely no leading with the helmet, for any player. Looking forward to a great season. Hope everyone's team does better than expected! Oh yeah......go Panthers!

Sounds like a great time! And after 15 years, you did ok!

Absolutely! We got chainsaw guy to the north. Goes nonstop at prime time every evening, beginning October 1st. His name is Dick To the west, we got a guy that never shoots a deer, but shoots a box of ammo on every Saturday and Sunday evening. His name is Wadsworth. Seems as if I'm surrounded by DickWads..........
