Just to SEE a 110" 8pt. is as much a thrill to me, as killing a mature spike!!!!

Let's Go Yankees!!!!

I was so ready for that game last night! Likely no game tonight either.

Lots of nice upscale shops to be looted in Saratoga!!! That's all these scumbags were hoping to do if possible! And the media would have their "top of the hour story" ......

Having a buck like this, passing on his genes to your local deer population is probably not great? But he is very cool! Years ago, we had a guest on the farm shoot a "spike" with just under six inch bases, and dressed out in the high 180s. We guessed him to be three or four years old. We had never seen him, before he was killed by the hunter. And have never since seen another buck like him.

Save strips of the barn wood for a border??? Looking great so far!

I've only been reloading for three years now. Got started with the help of a few members here. Spent a year reading manuals, gathering equipment, supplies, and all the odds and ends before actually making my first bullet! I absolutely love doing it, and find it to be peaceful work, with total concentration to small details. Pretty cool to have a DRT deer, with a round you loaded yourself!

My hunting partner tried them last year and has raved about them!!! Once fletched, just turn your nock to tune. He had a bunch of good arrows where the fletching had came off or loosened. And figured that the QuickFletch was more cost effective than new arrows. And very easy to apply.

You did absolutely the right thing, to go and protect/pick up your daughter!! I would never think a nice town like Saratoga, could be swept up in all this kind of criminal activity. But I guess no place is safe anymore. So sad........

What a great idea!!!! Gotta look into getting on for myself!!!

Nice deal C F!!! I too often wonder how the dedicated "broadhead" targets work with 'easy' arrow removal?? I shoot fixed head 4 blade Muzzy's and before that, 3 blade Thunderheads. I have always used a hard foam target with added cardboard to stop the arrow, for broadheads. The arrow penetrates about halfway, (depending on thickness of cardboard). Then just unscrew the head and pull the arrow. A bit of a PITA actually, but I'm used to it after all these years. I do have field point bag, and block targets that work well for field points. Just wondering how something like these targets work??

Ruger Mini 14 Stainless Ranch
grampy replied to WNYBuckHunter's topic in Non Hunting Items For Sale and Trade
If I didn't have so many projects going on at the farm, and home, at this time, I'd be making another road trip to Rochester! Sweet, Sweet rifle, are those Mini 14 ranch's. Would compliment an AR very nicely! GLWS -
Excellent build Al!!! I anticipate seeing that 338 TC, in a picture, lying across a nice whitetail this fall!

Really cool buck Cabin Fever!!! We too have a piebald buck on the farm. Last year as a spike horn, he was within 20 yards of me many times. He has been seen a few times already this year with his first rack. Looking forward to watching him grow. Will see if I can find some pic's from last year. Will have cam's out this year soon.

I too shot Beman's for a long, long time and loved them. Switched over to the Eastons last year and I'm pretty impressed with how they shoot from my bow. You should find them to your liking too I'd think. Shoot the Victory's out of my crossbow with very good results.

Ruger hiring people and they are getting desperate
grampy replied to Grouse's topic in General Chit Chat
Why work, when the government just doles out free money!!! This job offer from Ruger could be a life changing position for anyone willing to get up off their butt!! The free ride is not going to last forever. -
Looks great so far Zeek!!! Leaving that boulder in the center would be cool! And provide some nice structure for whatever fish you decide to stock. Keep us posted on the progress!

What a wonderful gift idea for a young sportsman!!! That's a gift that will keep on giving for a "lifetime"!!! You guys rock!

Garage Bar/Man Cave Ideas?
grampy replied to josephmrtn's topic in DIY - Do It Yourself, tutorials and videos
Garage Band????.......... I did that once. What a blast while it lasted! -
I won't comment on where you should hunt this property without actually walking it myself. Too many variables to count, to be able give specific stand sites. But......I have hunted similar terrain most of my life, and have a few generalizations that may help. Bucks like to bed just over the top of the ridge, with the wind at their backs, and to be able to see down, especially south facing slopes. On some of these side hills, there will be benches, or steps that is more or less level ground that can be walked on the side of the hill. These benches, are used as travel corridors by the deer. More so if there is a stand of prefered oaks along that hillside. These trails will be very evident when you find them! The deer have been using them for a long time! A great pinch point is at the head, or top of a steep gully, in between feeding areas! Deer will use the relative easy way around the top, instead of the steep sides of the gully. Classic funnel. I've used this on public, and private land with success. A large, thick, swampy area, at the foot, or between hills will always have deer bedded within it's thick and wet confines. Walk the edges to find the heaviest deer runs coming into and out of the swamp. If there is heavy human pressure, the thickest, nastiest cover is where the deer will always go. So don't bust them out! Hunt those major trails coming and going from the swamp to and from feeding. But only when the wind is right!!! This is where multiple set ups within a good, small area are a must, so you can move if the wind changes. Speaking of wind....... In the hills and mountains, the thermals and drafts can be a friend, or a foe to the hunter. Always keep in mind that cool air sinks, and warm air rises. And just because the wind is blowing a certain direction on top, it won't mean the wind is the same on the ground where you are! One of my favorite spots on the lake property usually will have a NE wind. But on the ground where I'm set up halfway up the hill, my wind will be SW!!! As the wind comes over the top and curls, picture a wave. As I said, these are just generalizations I've picked up in the last half century hunting the hills. There are so many more, and no two properties are exactly the same. But the pictures look very promising, and I wish you good luck and much success hunting in PA!!!

Perfect birthday gifts for an eight year old, that is really into the outdoors! You and him will have so much fun shooting/fishing together!! And wow!!! That boy can eat!!! Nice job making his day dad!

Dang.......I coulda joined the Webster neighborhood instead of buying my new place!!! I would have torn up all that silly golf stuff, and put in food plots though.........
-
We REALLY don't need ANOTHER crossbow debate on here!!!
-
Valid point my friend......
-
For two thousand dollars, I'll make the first shot count on my old $300 Sniper 370, if I choose to use a crossbow! But that is a pretty cool concept from Excalibur though. Figured it was only a matter of time before someone came up with a viable multi shot option on a crossbow. Though not sure if it will be legal here in NYS????
