If you are just putting it up for a few days, the Ameristep blinds are economical enough, comfy and roomy too. I use them quite a bit, as I have 4 or 5 of them. Only issue is they won't hold up to a heavy snow, unless you brace the center. I like to put them up near heavy cover, overlooking bedding areas. Also a dry get away spot for when the rain and drizzle hits, or you want to get out of the wind.

It's a no brainer to go to South Shore Marina on Saratoga Lake, and pay a bit more. As opposed to using the state launch which is always a nightmare!!! SSM is a breeze to put in and take out! Worth every penny extra! Same is true for most all popular lakes. Pay more.....stress less.

The online boat course may really help her Larry. Lots of things in there to help a new boater keep safe.

More and more, state boat launches are a nightmare, and I try to avoid them when possible. I will gladly pay more to launch at a smaller, less crowded marina or private place. Just too much of people who have no clue to boating etiquette, or even basic knowledge of how to back a trailer. It only takes one numbskull to tie up an entire launch for half an hour, making the line behind them longer, and more frustrated! Funny how during a tournament, 40 boats can be launched in half an hour!!! Also, I prefer very early in the morning times, and off the water before the "crowd" hits. Along with going mid week fishing, whenever I can swing it. I have at times tried to help people at the launch. Usually new boat owners, or women trying to take the kids out by themselves. Just to help keep the line moving! A favorite tip I give for backing a trailer is... "Put your hand on the bottom of the steering wheel.... Move your hand in the direction you want the trailer to go"!! SIMPLE! Other tips...... Take a boating course if you are new to boating to learn the rules. Also about boat launch etiquette. Is the plug in???(don't laugh, this is important! Captains sole responsibility here!) Is the motor ready to start/primed??? Have the boat loaded with everything you will need, and ready to go, before moving to the launch. Have the boat unstrapped, except for only the winch strap before moving to the launch. Keep a long rope tied to the boat, and pull it off to the side, out of the way after launching. Reverse this when loading. When possible with two people, after launching start the motor and SLOWLY move out of the launch and circle, until your partner comes back from parking the trailer. Then SLOWLY move back in, and pick him or her up. Teaching your significant other, or a buddy how to back and park the trailer, or to load the boat, is well worth the effort!!! As hard as it is, try to keep patient and help when you can. This "may" speed up the process, but many times not. Too many take exception to someone just trying to help! For some really good free entertainment, just go to any state boat launch around noontime on a weekend, to just sit and watch!!!

Happy Birthday Cory!

Thing is.... I need to have ID to do ANYTHING else in today's society. Even getting a book from our local library requires an ID. One would think that having voter ID, would be at least as important as borrowing a book from a small library? That is, unless one does not care about voter fraud and vote misrepresentation??? Keeping our vote free from ANY, and ALL, fraud is essential to keeping the foundation of our constitution, from being subjected to any doubt. ANY doubt, only fans the fires of injustice. As we are seeing now throughout our government, with too many questions, and not enough answers.

My First Deer Rifle: Remington 760
grampy replied to Splitear's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
A diamond in the rough! You got it sparkling now! Can't wait to see the old girl lying next to a deer this fall! -
Though the Mendon property was certainly magical, and many great memories were made there ( I have some myself). Your Cal property is pretty sweet too, with lots of promise, and new memories to be made! And being it is yours, you have a lifetime to make them! The is where Natalie will shoot her first deer, and where you will likely shoot your last. Lots of great stuff will be in between those milestones!!! Wishing you the very best my friend! I'll be waiting for your text from the woods like always!

And this is a lot on Boone too. It's his job to get these highly paid, mamby pamby, excuse makers, in the mindset to go out and play for what they are paid to do!!! You can't be all buddy, buddy with the players, like he is. You need to give em a boot in the arse!!! My opinion is most ALL the Yankees NEED a BIG boot in the arse right now!!! We need a Billy Martin! Not a Captain Kangaroo or Mr. Rogers! Old George S. is surely rolling over right now....... Rant over..........I feel better now..........

Exactly right. The gun control nuts can't get what they want in one big grab. But little by little they keep chipping away. As we all know, NY is NOT gun friendly. Wake up and stand up.

Happy Birthday!!! All the best to you my friend!

That's not too far away from me!! Nice out there! Great pic's!

Still Have enough to keep me going for awhile. But finding everything I need for my special recipe hunting rounds is kinda tough right now. I like to shoot ALOT! So will use any store bought, or otherwise ammo for trigger time.

The smallmouth are plentiful, and should be biting good now up there. Use a rappala, or any minnow bait imitation, white curly tailed grub, or quarter ounce, white willow leaf spinnerbait. Look for the many submerged rock piles to throw your bait. Target water from shore, out to eight to ten feet deep. Good luck, and have fun! Forgot to mention a Senko worm rigged wacky style (just hooked once through the middle, with a #2 worm hook) with no weight. Any color you have will work. Green pumpkin and black with blue flake are good ones for there though.

Footings for a small barn / shed
grampy replied to UpStateRedNeck's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
As you know, the BIG rocks we have up in the Helderbergs make the post hole diggers not so good either. Unless you get VERY lucky and don't hit one where you need to have a post. So just digging the holes with a backhoe is usually the best option. My hunting partner has a new Mahindra that he may do some local work with? I could ask for you?? -

With the amount of rocks we have on the farm, a backhoe is the only way to dig anything. Digging by hand is just a recipe for much frustration. -
I will take some of the 270 ammo if still available???

Almost like they have built in timers!!!

Happy Birthday Sir!! Hope your day is filled with all the good stuff! Family, Friends, and Food!!!

So sorry man. Sometimes our furry friends are closer to us than "most" people.

New farmer for our property
grampy replied to First-light's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
For early season Matt, beans and brassicas. Late season, the standing corn, and winter wheat. The deer seem to stay a little longer in the mornings, and come earlier in the evenings. Be happy to take you over to show you our set up, being we are so close by? -

We went from hay, to corn, beans, brassicas and winter wheat. Made a big difference in daytime deer sightings during the early and late deer season. -
To solve the see through burlap problem, just tack up some dead branches on the outside of the burlap, that you find on the ground nearby. Won't cost a thing, and will break up your outline nicely.
