  1. I hunt a lot of swamps, because that is where the mature bucks I'm hunting prefer to bed. The key here is, they bed there because they feel secure. If you are busted, or if they feel pressure, they will exit or avoid that area when they no longer feel secure. Now that doesn't meen you won't kill a deer there. Just likely not the mature buck making the sign you found. I like to leave that core bedding alone, never going in there, and hunt only the edges of it. Trying to figure where he wants to go from bed in the afternoon, and where he will be coming from in the morning. And set up to get him in the transition. Again, just hunting the edges of his core bedding area. ALWAYS paying strict attention to wind direction. If the wind changes and blows to his bedding you HAVE to move to another set up or get out. Having multiple sets, for different wind directions will benefit you greatly here. Of course hunting public land makes this all a bit more difficult, as you have no idea who else may be stomping through that bedding area. But the sign you found indicates that deer are bedding there. So perhaps because it is so thick and nasty, other hunters tend to avoid it. You did an outstanding job scouting, to get the information to form a solid plan. Use that to YOUR advantage! Don't give the deer any clues.
  2. Yes, as I said in the description it is steel, and a bit heavier than the aluminum version. But not too heavy as long as you are not going miles with it. My buddy has the aluminum newer version. I used his a couple times and it just didn't seem as sturdy to me? The padded pack straps I added make it much easier to carry too. I haven't used this in years, since I'm now primarily a ground hunter. Just would rather see someone else get some use out of it. Also thinning out some stuff before the new house closing. Would work nicely for a young hunter!! Safe and sturdy!!
  3. This sounds very beneficial and fun! Could this be counted as the course to obtain a pistol permit?
  4. It has a air valve that you blow in a little air and the seat conforms to your body. I found it pretty comfortable. Or just don't use any air and it's a fabric seat. And of course a new replacement seat for it isn't that much, if one were inclined to to that. Did I mention that it's VERY sturdy?
  5. Should definitely be in the political section. Most members don't come here for this stuff. And that's why we have that section.
  6. Older steel style. Used only a handful of times. A little heavy but very sturdy. Cables and inflatable seat in excellent condition. Added pack straps too. $125. Local pick up in the capital district.
  7. They're a little dusty. Could probably use new line. But still work fine. Grandson's have long outgrown them. Be great for a kids first fish! Free... to the first one local that wants them. Capitol district.
  8. Hope you and your family are doing well Joe. Nice to see ya checking in. I have an American Tactical Omni Max. It is a low end AR that I use for plinking, and the occasional coyote. Holds about a two inch group at 100 yards with average optics. I would not trust this rifle with my life! But it serves well for what I want it to do.
  9. The problem with this country today, is that there is way too much extremism on both sides. It's all take, and no give by both sides for the most part. And the politicians and lawmakers in charge of keeping the streets safe. Are too Mamby Pamby to do what needs to be done, to MAKE them safe! They are too worried about not being politicly correct, or not having their name "Thrown Out There" on mass media TV and face book! Heck no!!! That would be WORSE than being crucified on the cross! Meanwhile this country crumbles before our eyes.
  10. Since we are moving to a new place, one thing I'll miss here, is my garden. Will only have 3/4 of an acre at the new place. But maybe I can make a spot for a small garden this year, with just a few plants? Having a little garden is like therapy, not work to me. Work, is the 25 acres of food plots up on the farm!
  11. Happy Birthday Sir! Hope you have a great evening! Save me some cake!
  12. So many sweet calls to unpack and use! So little time!
  13. Happy Birthday WNYBuckHunter Happy Birthday Steve D
  14. There really is a wealth of great people on this forum. I've benefited many times from the generosity of so many here. And tried to pass that on whenever I could. Thumbs up to Enigma!
  15. Perhaps it's the Rona getting to people, IDK?? But it's not just happening in gun shops.
  16. Thank you my friend, you're advice is always appreciated, and spot on.
  17. You are right about the shortages Rob. And I'll look up some online places to see what I can find? Just want to shoot! And be able to keep up my inventory reloading what I use up. Was the AR your Mrs liked an American Tactical Omni, by any chance? I bought one a little over a year ago for about $500. I do like it a lot. Shoots great. But not $1200 great!!!
  18. For years I was able to hunt out my back door! And I do still kinda miss that during deer season. But not the eight hours of mowing, each week, along with two hours of trimming, each week in the summer. Along with the six foot high snowdrifts in the driveway during winter and fixing a plow truck in minus zero wind chills! Also with doing minimum of ten cords of wood each year. It was all well and good when I was younger! But I'm definitely not getting any younger now days. I can still be at the farm, or lake property, after an easy twenty minute drive. And I seem to appreciate it much more not living up there. So happy that you too found your forever home my friend! Not much better than being where ya want to be! Makes life that much sweeter!
  19. I hear ya Dan, and thanks! I will be posting some hunting stuff I don't need or use anymore, in the for sale section here. And a lot of other stuff will be just given away to someone who can use it, or thrown out. We ARE trying to downsize after all. But given time, I'll likely just accumulate more new "stuff"........as I'm proned to do. But I'll at least start out clean???
  20. As some of you know, we've been looking to down size a bit, and have been house hunting. Was looking for something with a bit less upkeep, to free up time for other things, as we get closer to retirement. We found it and signed the papers yesterday! It's all we were looking for and more!!! Smaller yard and driveway. A huge, clean, semi finished basement, for reloading bench, workshop, and a nearly 20 yard archery range! All in a quiet, nice neighborhood in west Rotterdam. The wife has her new everything kitchen. And all on one level but a spare bedroom! And still only a 20 minute drive to our 700 plus acres of heaven at the farm! Already looking forward to some yard work and landscaping. Will PM Biz for pointers! The wife and I are so very excited to start a new chapter in our lives! Just wanted to share our good news, about our forever home!
  21. If you were ANY kind of a hunter, you'd know how ridiculous your post is. C'mon man........
  22. Just wondering if any of you capital region guys know of anyone with a decent reloading supply, during the shortages we are now facing? Looking for small rifle primers, a 223 die set, bullets and powder for this caliber. Also would like to restock stuff for 270, 7mm-08, and 30-06. Seems like reloading supplies are about as scarce as ammunition at this time. And doesn't look like it will be improving any time soon. I'm just trying to keep ahead of things at this point. And prefer my handloads to factory ammo for our hunting rifles.
  23. Great looking CC piece John. Is that a two stage trigger?
  24. Congratulations!!! Beautiful baby girl! Take it all in and enjoy every minute with the kids. I can tell you from experience, that it really seems time speeds up. And before you know it, they are having kids of their own. Then the contract is renewed, with all good stuff, and you become a Grampy! All the best to you and your family.
