Just a reminder to all you younger bow hunters, you won't be young forever. And there will come a time for most of you, when drawing your bow will become difficult. But your drive to be out in the deer woods, will still be as strong as ever! That, is when you will want to hunt with a crossbow. Believe me. There is no reason why the law couldn't have been changed, to at least allow those 55 and older to hunt the entire bow season, with a crossbow. Most of us have hunted for decades with our bows, and still want to participate. Hunting with a crossbow, is far better than sitting at home, wishing you could be out there. I feel that those who totally oppose crossbows, have thrown out with the wash, the ones who helped to mentor you. Just sayin....... We're older yes, but we ain't dead! And nothing makes feel more alive, than being in the early season deer woods!

I've got some family in the Malone area, which is just a little SE of Regis. Those guys do pretty good up there on mature bucks. Anytime I have hunted with them up there, I usually see nothing!!! Been a few years since I've been up there. Perhaps this year I'll take the yearly invite and try again? More so to hang out with my cousins, than to kill a deer.

YouTube is definitely better than TV programming! I watched Jeremiah Johnson again, over the weekend!

As TV gets worse, I just watch less. Outside of Yankee games, I don't even turn it on anymore. And the way the Yankees are playing lately, may as well just skip the tube entirely.

For the vermin, just shoot, shovel, and shut up.

Happy Birthday! Wishing you all the best on your special day!

Sounds like you have a good set up and spot in there Tyler. Persistence will pay off for you. First couple weeks of November are crazy in the PB. For big bucks.....and people. Seeing a 150 class buck cruising is not out of the question during this time. They're in there! Wishing you the best of luck this fall. PM me if I can ever help you, I will.

There is still some giant bucks in the Pine Bush. The true secret is.... ACCESS and ADAPTABILITY. Think small...... I was fortunate to land a prime private hunting area in the far western part of the PB last year. I hunted it sparingly. But blew a chance at what would have been my biggest bow buck by far. When he held up on the other side of a tree at 15 yards. And I could no longer hold full draw. He caught the movement when I let down and was gone. I'll be back for redemption this year.

So......the other 90% are all innocent and committed no crime? My wife and I have not gotten the vaccination yet. We may, or may not? Whatever we choose to do, will be our own choice, for our own reasons. Not a choice made, or influenced by chatter on a hunting forum.

Sub Freezing Temps & Snow=Mast Production/Fruit Trees

If possible, throw a tarp or some plastic sheeting over them for a couple days till the weather warms again. The trees themselves will be fine. Not going to get that cold. But any potential fruit may be nixed this year, if the trees are starting to blossom? -
This is exactly what I wanted to say, but couldn't find the words.

I am not much of a fly rod fisherman, I'm still learning. But I have an Orvis 5wt, 8 and a 1/2ft 4 piece rod, that is so easy to cast, mend, and flip on small streams. And so easy to carry when broken down into it's case. We were at Orvis in Manchester Vt. and the pro there told me that this set up will be perfect for the small to medium streams I fish. And that it will be a great set up to learn on. He was spot on. Those guys out there are world class.

As long as my shoulders cooperate, even during crossbow season I still mostly carry my bow. Or switch back and forth. Like bow in the morning, crossbow in the afternoon. My bow has been my love and passion for 40 years. Even more than a firearm. But the crossbow is pretty fun too!

Right on! Keep the faith man!! To each their own!

I was once a long time member of NYBH. Not any more, for obvious reasons.

Sub Freezing Temps & Snow=Mast Production/Fruit Trees

Four or five years ago, our area of 4H was hit with a late spring cold snap, and some snow. That fall local apples were down by at least half. Both wild and farm grown. Also, acorns were very scarce that year as well. But it actually made hunting "easier"? As the deer had fewer options, and keyed on the trees that did produce. Once you found the area where those trees were, there was more deer than normal. -
Great buck and mount!!!

You witnessed an assault on a child. The authorities should have been called. DSS likely would have got involved. Perhaps helping that girl? Anyone who hits a child in the face is an abuser, plain and simple. And that guy was no man, he's a coward. Getting physical with scum like that, in a restaurant situation only makes a good guy wrong, when the authorities could have, and should have been called. If you messed that guy up, outside, he could have legally sued you. This mamby pamby world we live in now is nuts.

Many years ago, I had Quaker Boy box call. It was originally a bit high pitched for my taste. So I applied just a bit of Thompsons clear, water seal with a rag, using just my index finger. Only a light coat on the top, sides and bottom. Nothing inside! After applying the sealer, it mellowed it out very nicely, and became one of my favorite calls. I still have it somewhere?

As blood trackers, our primary reason for being there is to help recover the deer, if possible. But.....we always try to educate on the benefit of taking a high percentage shot. Not talk down to anyone, but try to educate where it may be appropriate. As hunters, we all know that at some point in our hunting careers, something can and probably will go wrong. It is absolutely, without a doubt, the worst feeling a deer hunter can experience! When for whatever reason, a wounded deer can not be found. That is where a trained dog and handler, can be the difference between a lost deer, or a recovered one. The average percentage for recovery, for even an experienced team is usually only about 35%. Because many times the deer is simply not dead. Perhaps it will recover to be seen again? Perhaps not? There are so many factors to a bloodline, and no two are exactly the same. But being part of the dog human team, working together to put the pieces of the recovery puzzle together. To find another hunters deer, is as rewarding, if not more so than shooting one yourself. It takes a dedicated individual to become certified, train and certify a dog, or dogs. And to "volunteer" your time and resources, to help other hunters! There is never enough to fill the void for tracking calls. Perhaps a show like this will inspire some new tracker teams? I hope so. Great thread Tom!!

We wouldn't be having this conversation, if Mr Floyd had just calmly gotten into the police car, as he was calmly asked, three or four times. Mr Floyd would be out doing what he always did tonight. I believe that Chauvin overreacted through pent up frustration, of dealing with this kind of thing, day in and day out. He should have got some help before his emotions ruined his life.
