Great buck and mount!!!

You witnessed an assault on a child. The authorities should have been called. DSS likely would have got involved. Perhaps helping that girl? Anyone who hits a child in the face is an abuser, plain and simple. And that guy was no man, he's a coward. Getting physical with scum like that, in a restaurant situation only makes a good guy wrong, when the authorities could have, and should have been called. If you messed that guy up, outside, he could have legally sued you. This mamby pamby world we live in now is nuts.

Many years ago, I had Quaker Boy box call. It was originally a bit high pitched for my taste. So I applied just a bit of Thompsons clear, water seal with a rag, using just my index finger. Only a light coat on the top, sides and bottom. Nothing inside! After applying the sealer, it mellowed it out very nicely, and became one of my favorite calls. I still have it somewhere?

As blood trackers, our primary reason for being there is to help recover the deer, if possible. But.....we always try to educate on the benefit of taking a high percentage shot. Not talk down to anyone, but try to educate where it may be appropriate. As hunters, we all know that at some point in our hunting careers, something can and probably will go wrong. It is absolutely, without a doubt, the worst feeling a deer hunter can experience! When for whatever reason, a wounded deer can not be found. That is where a trained dog and handler, can be the difference between a lost deer, or a recovered one. The average percentage for recovery, for even an experienced team is usually only about 35%. Because many times the deer is simply not dead. Perhaps it will recover to be seen again? Perhaps not? There are so many factors to a bloodline, and no two are exactly the same. But being part of the dog human team, working together to put the pieces of the recovery puzzle together. To find another hunters deer, is as rewarding, if not more so than shooting one yourself. It takes a dedicated individual to become certified, train and certify a dog, or dogs. And to "volunteer" your time and resources, to help other hunters! There is never enough to fill the void for tracking calls. Perhaps a show like this will inspire some new tracker teams? I hope so. Great thread Tom!!

We wouldn't be having this conversation, if Mr Floyd had just calmly gotten into the police car, as he was calmly asked, three or four times. Mr Floyd would be out doing what he always did tonight. I believe that Chauvin overreacted through pent up frustration, of dealing with this kind of thing, day in and day out. He should have got some help before his emotions ruined his life.

If I make a sound at all, it's just a Baaaaa.... like a sheep sound. And at different volumes, very soft, to loud, depending on the situation, or how far away the deer is.

I agree to disagree with you Belo. 40 years ago, when I started bowhunting, I started because it gave me More Time To Be In The Woods Hunting!!! Simple as that!!! I did not look at it like being an elite hunter! Just that I had more time to hunt!! The equipment used today by bowhunters, far exeeds any of the equipment I started with bowhunting. But that is a moot point, because nothing ever stays the same. Everything progresses, or is left behind. Just like bowhunting is in a numbers decline. Why is that? If someone shoots ANY deer, I am truly happy for them!! My first question is never "what did you shoot it with"? C'mon man..... you can do better. And are better. This whole discussion is only rehashing the hundreds of pages here of crossbow debate, AGAIN. I've stated my own opinion many times, and listened to countless others opinion too. Frankly, It's all getting boring to me now. And I'm out of this discussion AGAIN! Will focus on something more constructive like hunter unity. Or perhaps mentoring a new, or young hunter. That's what will be a better benefit to my love hunting. Not an elitest attitude on how other hunters decide to hunt.
-
This here, is my main issue with with the whole crossbow debate. One group of hunters calling another group of hunters "inferior" because they choose a different 'legal' hunting implement, or tool, to kill a deer. Does it really matter how another hunter goes about putting deer meat in their freezer? As long as the rules and laws are followed, I honestly don't believe it does. Just hunters bashing hunters. And for what gain? We are ALL inferior in some ways. Why not dwell on what makes us ALL stronger? Unity.................

Doing your homework has, and will pay off for ya! Sounds like really good parcels, in really good deer country. And not too far from home, so that you can get down there more often. Perfect! Best of luck! -
Hey man....I respect your right to yawn...............

Sometimes when I read something, I just have to chuckle a little. This is one of those times. I have been, and continue to be a bowhunter for almost 40 years. Did my mentality suddenly change, the first time I shot a crossbow??? I certainly have never noticed a difference in solitude in the deer woods, when using a bow or crossbow. Yup... after surgeries on both shoulders, my shoulders DO hurt sometimes! But I have re-habbed my butt off to get to where I can "sometimes" draw my bow. I am, and HAVE been a bowhunter!! I like crossbow too! Is only one or the other acceptable to ME, decided upon by others I don't even know? I do care if I shoot a deer!!!! But it matters little to me if I use a bow or crossbow at this point. I've killed a whole lot of deer with a bow. First one with a recurve. I don't have to prove anything to myself, or anyone else. We are all different. We won't always agree. That is fine! No problem. Hunt your way, I'll hunt mine. But I will "NEVER" fight against another hunter, because they don't hunt the same as me. Or they use a different bow, caliber of rifle, hunt from a tree, instead of the ground..............this list is endless! United we stand. Divided we fall. Simple as that. Look around, don't need to look too far to see that hunters are a minority these days. And partly, because of the bickering amongst ourselves! We are slowly eroding what we ALL love. All because of the closed mindedness, selfishness, jealousy, and fears, of a small percentage of our own! Continue hunting how you like. Let others do the same. It's all good. Just hunting!

They passed to where younger hunters 12 and older can now hunt big game. That's awesome! But for older hunters, who can no longer draw a bow, you're SOL. Oh well, it is what it is. Not surprised at all, given how nothing NY does makes sense anyways. Thanks again to Rick McDermott and the Crossbow Coalition, for giving it their best shot.

Happy Easter. Take a minute or two to send a prayer, to someone who needs one. And enjoy the day with family.
