  1. That is like asking what caliber is the best to shoot a deer with. You will get a multitude of different answers. And most all not wrong. It really boils down to your set up, and personal preference. If you are shooting a low poundage bow, you may want to go with a fixed blade head. If you are shooting a higher poundage bow, you'll have more energy to drive a mechanical head through a deer, for a complete pass through. A complete pass through is optimal, because you then have two holes leaking instead of one. That makes recovery much easier. Myself, I have always preferred a fixed blade head. And have taken deer with a variety of different brands. I'm currently using the Muzzy MX4. As that shoots very accurately from my bow. Different bows, prefer different broadheads sometimes. To shoot the most accurate. Tell us more about yourself and your set up. Perhaps then we can narrow it down a bit more for ya.
  2. The last time I was in a buck contest was 1986. I won that contest, against some very good local, older hunters, who I respected a lot, when I was 29. But somehow in my own mind, it diminished the buck that I killed that year. And I never got in another "contest" again. And never will. I don't see this as a "contest" at all. Though I guess some may see it that way. I just see it as something fun, to follow along during the season. With some fellow hunters all across the state. It will in absolutely no way change how I hunt, or what I choose to shoot. And I'll cheer for every other hunter, regardless of what team they are on! Or even if they choose to not take part. I do that anyways. Every deer is it's own trophy. Best of luck to all this season!
  3. I have the Gordon's. And there is no smell that I can detect. I also mix with distilled water. But even if it did smell, I'd still use it! As deer will smell you anyways, no matter what you do. And having ticks chomp on you, is far worse than a deer winding ya, in my opinion.

Hey! Where ya been? Nice to see ya a back!
  5. 29 inch draw, shooting 50 to 60 lbs, your arrow SPINE should be 350 or 400. Not sure what you mean by the arrows broke? Are you hitting them when you shoot? If you will be hunting with 100g heads, you should be practicing with 100g field points. The Muzzy three blade is a good hunting head for your set up. Before hunting season starts practice shooting one of those Muzzy's to be sure your point of impact is right where it should be. Sometimes, a slight adjustment may be needed going from field points to broad heads. But not always, if your bow is in tune.
  6. C'mon!!! Need some more capital region hunters!!! We gotta get a solid team two!
  7. That is the stuff. I mix one ounce of that, to twenty ounces of distilled water. Shake it up, then spray it on and let it dry. Goes a long, long way, and works just the same, at a fraction of the cost of Sawyers. And I always have enough now! Was always running out of the Sawyers, and had to run over to buy more. Now I have gallons to make up anytime.
  8. The deer do seem to like it. That is a big plus. Hopefully the new seeding will take hold, and thickin up just in time for bow season!
  9. Ummmm......this might explain my frustration, and why I can't get my cams set up!!
  10. So if I hunt with Moog, and score, I get the points, and buy him dinner?
  11. I'm in for team two !! This should be fun to follow along during the season!
  12. The Centerpoint Elite is slightly longer, and the foregrip is a bit different, than the 370. Other than that, they are very similar. For about $65 more, the Mercenary is a touch faster, and a couple more bells and whistles. I have the 370, and I really like it! Great crossbow for the money! Though I did upgrade the stock scope to a Nikon Bolt.
  13. Must be something in the water at Yankee Stadium the last three years! But fair and square, the no name, low budget Rays swept the Yankees at home! Kudo's to them! Will be interesting, down the stretch, how all this plays out. Definitely no lock on the Yanks getting a ring this year. They will have to fight for it! As it should be.
  14. Oh man.....you are really making this hard to resist!
  15. In my hunting area of 4-H, we need PP's for a doe tag. So that hurts a little. I do have one PP, so maybe I'll get lucky this year? Or perhaps I'll get one with archery gear? But I do like the idea of a friendly, and fair regional something or other. Would be fun to follow along with during the season.
  16. Absolutely!!! This goes by residence......right??
  17. So at that time during winter, few deer have antlers. So some bucks must be taken with the doe, right??
  18. I'm in if ya want me? I had a decent year last year. But who knows, I could totally whiff this year? Or could try to form a Capital Region team???
  19. I have one of the boys LL aluminum bats right in the same place in my garage! Hope they catch the scumbag! He's not too bright doing his crimes in daylight wearing an orange T shirt. Should be an easy catch for the cops. Great idea setting up the trail cam on the front porch.
  20. Thoughts and prayers sent to your son for a full recovery Eddie. Every time I ever had to drive in NYC, I always swore it would be the last time!!!
  21. I liked Mookie even when he was in hated Boston. I like him more now. Heck of a ball player, and fun to watch.
  22. And so darn modest too.....................................
