  1. Thanks for the info. I've studied maps for hours on end, hiked some good looking spots the last few weekends and I'm impressed..... (and tired, man there sure is a lot of land up there! ) I put up a stand for gun over in the Ossian Forrest. I'm hooked on this area and will continue to explore. GM
  2. That will get the blood pumpin' ! I'd guess the marks on his back are from sqeezing under a barbed wired fence?
  3. Does anyone have the inside story on this? I know the county passed it earlier this year then it failed in Albany. It will be resubmitted again, but I'm wondering on the chances of it passing.
  4. I guess 114, but get a tape out and do a rough score and Congrats to your Uncle, nice deer! http://www.nysbigbuckclub.com/support-files/NYSBBC-typical.pdf
  5. You can target shoot on state land unless that land is posted or designated as closed to target shooting. 190.8.bb http://www.dec.ny.gov/regs/4081.html#12996
  6. That is bad news, hard to take at the beginning of the season. State lands can be great to hunt, but a crap shoot as well.
  7. Just hunt the way you want and enjoy it. I agree, hunt the best stand for the situation and wind. Good advise for sure. I'm over fifty, 35 years of bow hunting. I don't claim to be an expert hunter in anyway, but I love it like nothing else. I work hard all year at it and save my precious time off so I can hunt like most guys on here. I'm blessed with having 15 stands up and dozens of places to hunt. I choose to hunt some of my stands now and to save some of my stands for later in the year. That's all. I'm not asking anyone else to hunt the way I do. I'm not saying you can't kill the biggest buck of your life on an 80 degree day. Hunt the way you want and have the time of your life!
  8. I'm seeing them move a lot now too and I know the opportunities are there. I just don't care to shoot a deer when it's real warm. I have about 15 tree stand up. I'll hunt some of them during the early season, but will save some of my best stands for when I have more time to hunt, temps are cooler and the older bucks will be moving more. It's just my preference. When I have a week off in early Nov, I'll go to a stand and sit all day. I don't want that stand to be burned out.
  9. It looks thin enough to bend out the way too? Sometimes I'll just bend a tree over a bit as long as it won't interfere with another shooting lane.
  10. It's a long deer season. Every time you go to your stand you leave scent and deer start figuring that out pretty fast. I'll stay away from my best stands until conditions are more favorable. For now, I'll hunt other areas and enjoy the colors, wait for cooler temps. Sure the deer are moving now and you may score on a nice buck or doe. I'd just rather have cooler temps to bag a deer so the meat turns out well. just sayin'
  11. I would get a bucket of water and a box of baking soda and scrub them up good on the outside. Then use some spray scent remover on the inside. This should help remove most of that new boot smell.
  12. I know one farmer who owns a lot of the land that borders the park and the deer put a hurtin' on his crops every year. They let very few people hunt it, then complain when the crops get decimated.
  13. I hang mine up, skin it, quarter it and put it in the fridge to cool for a day or so, then start cutting it up at my leisure.
  14. I'm in the woods every week the whole year except maybe June and July. It will be nice to take the bow out this weekend tho.
  15. Be Safe, enjoy every day out to the fullest and good luck! GM >>>----------->
  16. Red Squirrels constantly barking every time you move a muscle. That really bugs me sometimes. I don't hear a lot of traffic in the area's I hunt.
  17. You need to apply for the Regular Gun season. For archery you only need to print out the appication, fill it out and carry it with you.
  18. Lol, no wonder you don't see other stands down there. Sounds like you have to take a repelling class.
  19. Lots of deer, the older bucks seem to be very more nocturnal come deer season. The bottom is nice to hunt if you have the legs, but the problem i find is there seems to be a tree stand every 200 yards down there.
  20. Iron sights on my T/C White Mountain Carbine. One of my favorites to hunt with.
  21. I've cut out most of the carbs and have had good success losing weight slowly. Eating mostly protien, some vegtables. Lots of hiking/scouting to keep in shape.
  22. I received the "2nd Chance Permit Only" which covers Nov 25th -Dec 8th Yeah, I'm really bumbed, as all my scouting for the last 4 years has been in the park.
  23. 10 days starting Halloween, subject to change if weather isn't good for deer movement.
  24. To see a mountain lion! J/K Have fun and be safe Take a doe early with my bow, take a nice buck with my bow and or gun. Have fun with hunting buds and enjoy each minute that I'm out there.
