  1. As far as the Lic. + DMP'S it is all free for me and others 70+ years old with the lifetime lic. As far as deer in region #4 in the Catskills where I live the number of does are way down on my property as they were 10+ years ago , I improved the property quite a bit as far as cutting down trees and planting food plots. I have had deer bedding down for the whole day on the property even during hunting season, in groups of 3 to 7 deer in different spots on the property. ( not saying it is not like that down the road where people are feeding deer year round ) Or on the Farms where crops are planted. And it is not Yotes or other game killing the young because I have Cams out all year and they are not here except when gut piles from shot deer are around. The woods are too thick all around, Road kill and niucence permits are doing a job on them.
  2. My X hunting partner has one in 30-06 for a number of years we sighted it in on my property ( pretty close to a tack driver ) over the years it has taken many deer and a few yotes. with it.
  3. Just got my archery , MZ and DMP tags for 2017 - 2018 ( free for lifetime lic. holders ) on DECALS .
  4. The largest deer ( body size and antler size ) I have seen in my 60 years of hunting in New York has been in a swamp.
  5. August 1 st. is when they go on sale.
  6. In my area of the Catskills there are a good supply of excavating companies and they all will not guarantee that the pond will not leak. I have one that was dug and the water never reaches the top because of a leak somewhere . Another one I dug around 600' away from the first one and the water ran out of that one as fast as it went into it. A few of the neighbors have good size ones that are holding water but they are constantly fed by good running streams. We are not on flats we are on the sides of the mountians.
  7. One thing to keep in mind the pointed bullets plastic or what ever go right threw thin skinned animals as fox and woodchucks without little or any expansion with the more power you put behind them. I wish I saved an artical in one of the preditor hunting mags. It was a good artical where they tested many rounds threw a few popular rifles , it wound up that the old fasioned round nose bullets dropped more fox and chucks then the newer pointed bullets .My Ruger M77 in 22mag. Has proven that with plane jane remy. round nose ammo . never had to shoot anything over 100 yards. If I did have to I would use my .Tripple Duce or my .243.
  8. You answered your Question with your statment above. Also the woods have overgrown ,too many tall trees and no underbrush for them to hide in, This state needs a major land clearing effort.A year ago the first time in 10 years I had 2 young rabbits that would come to feed at my pet rabbit hutch , not any more the foxes got them .
  9. True story from many years ago , a friend and I were bow hunting on private hunting club land way in the woods. we hunted all morning from first light till late in the afternoon, I was just getting down from my tree when I hard a few shot go off about 100 yds. away in the area my partner was. No cell phones back then. So I slowley walked to where he was. and saw 7 mangey looking dogs .lieing on the ground scattered all around ,5 with arrows in them and 2 others lieing there with holes in them. They had him treed and would not scare away even after a few were hit with broad heads. There were 9 of them in total. He was a avid hunter and a goo shot. His 22 did its job.His clothes must have had the scent of the buck he gutted earlier in the morning. We found out the next day there were large packs of wild dogs running around the area for some time killing every thing they could for food. Its a shame he died of cancer 2 years later.
  10. I have a ladder stand up for 5+ years and the seat is dry as a bone, I put one of the strap on swivel seats on the tree just above the stand , it folds up when not in use and just put a heavy duty plastic bag over it, I just replace the bag when deteriorated.
  11. Had one empty out the garbage can 2 mornings ago and spread the bags all over the front yard.
  12. Could be that you are not standing square to the target or the target is at an angle , are the arrow vanes rubbing on the rest ?. Try shooting closer as 10 yards and see how the arrows are hitting the target are they square or at a right angle to the target. What ever you do do not shoot groups at the same spot on the target( a good way to screw up broadheads and arrow shafts ) Get a target or put 5 spots on the target and shoot one arrow at each.
  13. Just apple trees here ,and there loaded , storm blew many off of the trees but it a lot more the there were last year..
  14. What might be weeds to you, Might be food for the animals, never sprayed weed killer and no problem wit animals comming arount to brouse.
  15. Nice rifle , It took me 50 years to get my first Sako , model 579 varmit in .243 a tack driver .100 center to center in 100 yards. My second Sako a model 75, .30-06 in stainless with a factory plastic stock was not as good, after having a gunsmith glass bed the action and a 1/2" of the barrel and a little trigger work it now shoots the same as yours. both have loupold scopes and bothe came with scope mounts . Enjoy It.
  16. Looks like my little pond Gro. the only problem is with all of the trees around it , It's full of leaves from last fall.
  17. We are at 93.5" so far for this year, next few days 14" to 20" could fall here.
  18. I have a 99 Indy 500 ( body not in the greatest shape , but it was running when I stopped using it ) If you are interested , cheap, make me an offer.Just want to get rid of it. Up about an hour or so above where you are.
  19. Same here with my Taurus Ultra-Lite Nine , 22. a couple thousand rounds threw it., It's my daily side arm.
  20. Plant plenty of clover with the other grass seeds. I did and the deer are on my property just about every day munching on it , they even scrape the snow off to get at it. This is a good time of the year to put clover seed down.
  21. Also think about planting a safe haven for the animals plant a good amount of white pine and hamlock's 10 ' to 15' apart . Sorry I did not do that 10 years ago, They love to hang out under them this time of the year.
  22. I made mine 10 years ago, it an't moving , no shake and no shimmy. It sits outside year round and has not warped or rotted. 6"x6" pt. legs 2' down in the ground , 2" x 6" pt. for the framing, and top is 2" x 8" pt. , can shoot right side or left side from the bench type seat ,part of the framing, used s.s. deck screws to put together.
  23. You are still young compaired to SOB, Doc and I . Yea I remember the smell well also.
  24. The Deer that is, Just had a group that came down out of the woods and were munching on what is left of my vegi. garden, 1 year old to 2-1/2 years old and they all are looking very healthy , the best I have see in years. They should have no problem making it threw the winter. We just got another 5 to 6" of snow today so far.
